Chapter 3 - 3

The weather had changed, the sun set and the evening glow was wonderful.

I stood at my balcony in my night wear watching the cars drive by and bustling with people up and all on their business.

Even with all this, my mind couldn't seem to lay at rest with what Honey said earlier.

---

"It's not that much of a deal Kira, I'm over that shvt!." Honey's voice slowly increased with each word as she blurted out, readjusting herself on the couch.

I know she hates my interference or signs of fear anytime something about Noel comes up, but I can't help it with the gruesome things he'd done to her.

And she's just playing it off like I'm the one at fault now?

I released a tired sigh and kept calm. I could already feel the irritation bubbling in her, even from the look on her face, she looked conflicted.

I brushed it off, not wanting to interfere, closed my laptop when I was done and stood.

"I'm heading up to shower, I'll be right back." I informed as I made my way to my room, not waiting for a reply.

I stood under the shower as the hot water poured on me, relieving me of a bit of stress.

Maybe this was actually what my body needed.

Done and headed back downstairs, I found her already dressed and ready to leave.

I'd borrowed my clothes since hers was still in the dryer.

"Are you leaving?"

"Yeah, my dad just called." She replied although her voice had an edge on it but I didn't utter a word about it.

"Alright then…take care." I gently wrapped my arms around her as she also returned the gesture.

"Thank you. I'll see you soon. I really had fun." She spoke at the door.

"Me too." I replied as she shut the door.

---

I made my way back to my bed. As I tugged the covers, my only thought was on Honey – if she was okay and if she reached her apartment in safety.

I decided against calling her as the tension she left still lingered.

Letting out a long breath, eyelids heavy with sleep, I pulled the covers more above my neck and succumbed to the warm hands of unconsciousness.

---

My sleep was suddenly disrupted with the loud buzzing of my alarm.

"Dammit!" The irritating sound kept on blaring till I slapped it against the wall.

There goes the 4th alarm clock I bought this month.

That was my only problem till I got a notification from my phone and I got sight of the time.

I quickly tumbled out of my bed, rushing to have a quick shower.

Blazer in right hand and a slice of leftover pizza in my left, I rushed to my car immediately speeding out of the parking lot.

Can this day get any worse?

---

"You are late!"

Yep spoke too soon.

Ben spat as he slammed a hand on my desk, his face bubbling with great irritation.

Someone must have had something up his ass this morning.

"I'm sorry sir, the traffic –

"No no no, I don't need your flimsy excuses this time, finish this up and bring it to my office by 2pm sharp." He cut me off as he ordered slamming a workload of papers on my desk and walked off.

"Girl you okay?" My colleague, Leah asked, she just happened to witness my encounter with our boss.

Plus 30+ nosy workers who love gossip.

"Yeah…just had a bad morning, nothing much." I shrugged.

"Well if you'd like, we can go check out this new restaurant that just opened. You in?" She suggested.

That statement alone cracked a smile on my face.

Well at least I get to have free food today thanks to Leah.

"Yeah that would be lovely."

Like they always say,

'Food begets all happiness.'

Quote by me of course.

"Where's Dave?" I asked as I noticed that I haven't heard his enthusiastic voice since I came.

Normally he always comes to work way earlier than the two of us. So it's actually surprising that I hadn't seen him.

"You don't know?" Leah asked with raised eyebrows like I'd lost an arm.

"Know what?"

Did something happen to him?

"Well, you know his secret 'partner' had taken him on a trip for some private reasons." She explained. " He came yesterday and went straight to the boss's office. If I hadn't forced the truth out of him, he wouldn't have told me."

Wow.

Just happened on the perfect day I missed work.

"Is he gonna come back?" I asked just in case.

"Yeah, it's just for a few weeks." She replied.

"Maybe that's why Ben must have been in a bad mood," I said, trying to connect the dots.

"Nah girl, Ben already has a partner. I don't think Dave could possibly be the problem."

She had a point though.

I started on my work immediately, I didn't really want to get on his bad side after this morning.

At least before 2'o'clock I would be done and dusted.

Silence filled the room as only the sounds of keyboards could be heard.

That was until Leah broke it with her question.

"You know, I don't get why Dave still hides his partner, does he think we would judge him or something?" She whispered.

True, I also don't get it.

"I also don't get it, maybe things aren't safe enough for him to spill." I said with the same tune.

"Maybe he thinks we might judge him if he's dating a guy or something, you think?"

"Nah, Dave isn't that shy and he's open about himself. Heck, he's more of an extrovert and his loudness is louder than mine. Why would you think he would feel shy to tell us that? I would even be shocked if he was straight."

Leah snickered at my observations.

"Yeah, you're right. Maybe for some personal reasons." She said getting back on her computer.

At the silence that followed after, my mind suddenly drifted back to the previous night's incident and decided to ask.

"Ummm.. Leah?" I stopped typing and slightly faced her

"Yeah?" she answered, doing the same.

I didn't even know how to start.

"Have you ever been drunk off your mind one time and found yourself back in your apartment the next morning with no memory of how it happened?"

This was the only way my mind could fumble up this question.

Her eyes slightly widened and arched an eyebrow at the question.

"Kira, did something happen?" She questioned with a bit of uncertainty in her voice.

"No, I was just wandering. I saw it online about how this girl who had a hangout with her friends landed back in her apartment and couldn't remember anything or how she got there. She was worried at forts but then realized it was her boyfriend who tracked down her location and brought her back."

I hope she buys this cause this is all I can make up at this point.

"Oh, such a lucky girl. Why do you ask? You think your boyfriend Joshua must have done the same?" She smirked giving me that look.

Thank goodness she bought it.

She doesn't know yet I had broken up with Joshua but I just laughed it off.

"But if it happened to me as I have no man, I would freak out." She dropped that last part.

I silently clutched my armrest and just cracked a light chuckled.

"Yeah… me too."

This week just keeps getting weird.
