Zayne quietly opened his status panel.
Name: Zayne

Agility: 15
Spirit: 30
Class Talent: Endless Spellcraft. Each level gained unlocks one forbidden spell.
Skill: Forbidden Spell Worldbane Thunderfall
Forbidden Spell Worldbane Thunderfall. The caster sacrifices part of their own body and summons world ending thunder from the upper skies. The more vital the sacrifice, the higher the grade of lightning. At its peak, it can summon Abyssborn Thunderfall. Power scales with the caster's level and spirit.
Note: Forbidden Spellcaster releases forbidden spells with no cost and no cooldown.
Normally, skills ranged from common to rare, epic, and legendary. Legendary skills were already considered overwhelming. Yet above legendary existed the taboo rank. That was the realm of forbidden spells.
The Forbidden Spellcaster's power lay in the fact that every ability they used was a forbidden spell.
Others unleashed a forbidden spell only when driven to desperation. A Forbidden Spellcaster's normal basic attack was already a forbidden spell.
Worldbane Thunderfall alone made Zayne's blood heat. Abyssborn Thunderfall was the sovereign among lightning.
No wonder Forbidden Spellcasters were said to be unmatched among peers. A single Abyssborn Thunderfall could obliterate anyone of equal grade. Even a deity level being would be struck down.
What mattered even more was that forbidden spells had no cooldown and cost no mana for this class. That meant as long as the caster had enough life to spend, Abyssborn Thunderfall could be unleashed endlessly. Certain friends with extra life to spare would understand this well.
With the Forbidden Spellcaster class paired with immortality, Zayne could hardly imagine how terrifying he would become once he leveled up. For him, this class had no downside.
A class with overwhelming strength and no drawbacks. Zayne felt he could wake up laughing even in the middle of the night.
But as delighted as he was, he knew better than to show it. No matter how strong the forbidden spell, he still needed levels to support it. Now was the time to act subdued.
Even a three year old given a mythical beast would still be unable to kill anyone.
Zayne clenched his fists, trembling, breathing heavily, eyes bloodshot, playing perfectly the role of a genius who rose to the heavens only to crash instantly.
Seeing this, Norton sighed with genuine regret.
Such a good child. What a shame he is a Forbidden Spellcaster.
Zayne, do not be too upset. As people say, effort shapes fate. Forbidden Spellcaster is still extremely strong. Better to burn bright for a moment than live meaningless for a lifetime.
Zayne slowly raised his head, voice hoarse.
Norton, is it true that Forbidden Spellcasters cannot live past twenty five?
Norton paused, then nodded reluctantly. He did not want to lie. Forbidden Spellcasters were powerful, but the price for that power was steep.
Yet soon his eyes lit up again.
Short lived or not, an SSS Forbidden Spellcaster paired with an SSS Fire Mage meant Old Shipyard Port High was guaranteed victory in the trial exam. They might not even need Nia. If Zayne sacrificed a kidney to cast a forbidden spell, he could wipe out every competing school.
Wonderful.
The moment Norton imagined himself giving the first place speech on the podium, his hands clapped together in excitement.
Five years without a championship. Five years of humiliation from other principals. He had suffered enough.
Zayne, good child, come with me. Hurry.
Norton led both Zayne and Nia to his office.
Zayne, Nia, I am sure you know why I called you here.
His gaze burned with intensity.
You two are Old Shipyard Port High's hope for this year's trial exam.
Which means tomorrow's beginner dungeon is crucial. I want both of you to reach at least level ten.
Do not worry. I will not assign any support class teammates. You will both solo. I expect you to live up to this opportunity.
Normally, combat classes needed a support partner in the beginner dungeon since support classes could not fight alone.
Letting Zayne and Nia solo meant much faster leveling.
I am fine with that, but Zayne... Nia frowned slightly.
Letting a Forbidden Spellcaster solo the beginner dungeon? That was like blasting mosquitoes with artillery. He would use forbidden spells on level one monsters and level five monsters alike. By the end, half his life might be gone.
And your suggestion? Norton asked.
Let me team with Zayne. That way we can safely go deeper. I handle lower level monsters, he handles the stronger ones. We will level far faster that way.
Though a team split experience, moving deeper saved time searching for monsters. The overall speed could surpass solo runs.
Oh. That makes sense. Zayne, what do you think? Norton asked with interest.
I will solo. I am used to working alone. Zayne scratched his head awkwardly.
Teaming with Nia meant restrictions and the risk of exposing his immortality. Zayne had no interest in that.
He really does not appreciate kindness.
Nia's gaze cooled. She had wanted to help him, since awakening as a Forbidden Spellcaster was miserable enough. She never expected him to refuse.
Fine. When he returns from the dungeon missing limbs, he will understand.
Then solo it is. Nia's plan is good, but diving deep is too risky. Norton finalized the decision. He cared nothing for Zayne's survival or lifespan. He cared only about rankings and first place.
Even if Zayne crawled out half dead, as long as he scored well in the trial exam, that was enough. Whether he lived afterward was irrelevant.
Norton then handed two rings to Nia and Zayne.
