Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Game Update, Celestial Academy

John was shocked. He looked at the figure and frowned, saying, "You can actually talk."

He only hesitated for a second before continuing to attack.

"Damn it! Stop!" the angry voice came again, but it had no power to stop John.

"Who are you? Why are you hiding here?"

John slowed down his attack and asked curiously.

"I am Demon King Aoto. You lowly worm, leave now, and I might let you live."

The cold voice was hoarse and weak.

"Demon King Aoto?" John frowned and said calmly, "Never heard of him."

He said that, and his attack speed increased.

At that moment, the figure became faint, as if it would disappear at any moment.

"Damn it. You ruined my fun. I remember you!" a roar came, and the figure exploded and vanished.

Did it just die?

John looked at the empty stone platform, but there was no item drop.

[Announcement: Player John killed the Shadow of Demon King Aoto. Reward: One piece of The Crimson Chronicle gear.]

[Announcement: The Demon Race has revived. The game The Alternate World will be disconnected for a while. It will be reconnected in 12 hours. All players are required to log off immediately. You will be forced to log off in one minute.]

Suddenly, two system announcements echoed.

John was stunned. The game updated? It seemed like it was caused by him.

Boom... boom...

At that moment, the ground trembled beneath his feet, dust flew up, and rocks fell from the ceiling.

"Shit, this cave is collapsing!" John's face changed. He quickly stepped back and ran out.

Big rocks fell beside him. Luckily, he was fast and narrowly avoided them.

When he finally ran out of the cave, the broken altar behind him crashed into the ground and disappeared.

Then, everything spun around. He was forced to log out.

John's consciousness returned. He was lying on a soft bed, his face slightly warm. Isolde was almost right in front of him, her beautiful eyes blinking, a small smile on her face as she stared at him.

"Ah, John, you're awake!"

Isolde yelled, like she had been caught doing something wrong. She looked panicked and quickly moved away.

"Isolde, what are you looking at?" John felt a bit amused and asked.

"N-no, nothing."

Isolde blushed and gave him a slight glare.

John then felt a bit wet on his face. She hadn't done anything good, apparently.

At that moment, Isolde was wearing a light purple silk nightgown, her long black hair flowing over her shoulders, making her look more charming and alluring.

John resisted the urge to act on his feelings. He looked at the time and saw it was already after 2 p.m.

He stretched his stiff body and said, "You're hungry, right? I'll go make some food."

"Okay, I'll help you," Isolde tried to get up, but as soon as she moved, she winced in pain.

Last night, John had been wild. And this morning, he had been at it for over an hour. She hadn't recovered yet, and even walking felt unnatural.

"No, just stay in bed and rest. I'll take care of it," John said, feeling worried. He kissed her forehead and went to prepare food.

Isolde's face was sweet. She didn't argue. She really couldn't move well.

"By the way, I haven't asked what that guy did. That's what triggered the game update." She whispered to herself, curiosity in her heart, and opened her phone forum.

Everyone was talking about the game update and about John killing the Demon King.

As for this new Demon Race, there wasn't much information.

But this wasn't a good sign. Every time there was a new race added in a game update, the space rifts in the real world would become restless, causing a lot of damage to humans.

"I hope this time won't be dangerous." Isolde whispered to herself. Karlove was not far from Buffer Zone. If something went wrong, this place would be the first to be taken over by monsters.

"Isolde, lunch is ready."

Not long after, John finished lunch. It was barely lunch, since it was already three in the afternoon.

"I'm coming." Isolde put down her phone, forced herself to ignore the pain between her legs, and tried to act natural as she walked into the living room.

It was a good thing she had merged her game stats with reality once before, or she wouldn't have been able to get out of bed after being messed with like that by John.

The lunch was still simple, but delicious. Isolde didn't care about her appearance and ate like a pig.

"John, I think I can't let you cook anymore. If I keep eating like this, I'll get fat." She said with food in her mouth, her words barely clear.

"No way. Even if you get fat, I won't stop loving you." John joked.

Isolde gave him a look, but her heart felt even sweeter.

"John, what did you do in the game? How did you trigger the update?"

Isolde thought about the game update and asked curiously.

"It was a hidden quest. I killed this guy who called himself a Demon King's shadow." John didn't hide anything and briefly told her about the task the village elder had given him.

As for who the Demon King was, he had no idea either.

"That abandoned palace really had secrets." Isolde was surprised. She and John were from the same starting village. A lot of players had checked that abandoned palace before, but found nothing, and no one found the hidden cave.

"Isolde, what's your status now? Have you not advanced yet?" John asked curiously.

"Ugh." Isolde sighed, her mood down. "No, I just found out that there's a limit to how many times you can do the class advancement trials. I only have one chance left. If I fail again, I can't try again. I'm too scared to try now."

She regretted choosing the hidden class Guardian Knight. The second-stage advancement task was already so hard. Even if she made it through, she couldn't imagine what the next trials would be like.

But she couldn't bear to give up the class either.

"It's okay. I'll help you when the time comes." John said confidently, thinking about whether to stay in the starting village and focus on the students from Karlove Academy.

The in-game time was valuable for students about to graduate, and it was valuable for him too.

Isolde just smiled and didn't care much about it.

She used to be a student at Celestial Academy. When she was doing her advancement quest, she asked a lot of top-level warriors for help, but they all failed. At that time, even her mentor tried to help, but it also failed. And it even cost the other side one level.

"By the way," Isolde thought of something and said happily, "John, I have some good news for you. Celestial Academy is going to send people here to recruit students this year. As long as you're the right age, even if you're not a student of the academy, you still have a chance."

"Celestial Academy? Is that true?" John was surprised. He knew about Celestial Academy. It was one of the top ten higher education institutions, and the only one that didn't limit who could join.

But Celestial Academy was located in a much more dangerous area than Karlove. The academy was in the Buffer Zone, and it often fought with monsters. Many big families wouldn't risk sending their core family members there.

Even so, Celestial Academy was still ranked among the top ten higher education institutions. That showed how strong it was.

He had the Divine Gift talent, so improving his strength wasn't a problem. Ordinary higher schools weren't worth his time, but Celestial Academy made him feel excited.

"Isolde, I remember you were a student at Celestial Academy, right?" John thought about Isolde's identity. This must be true.

Isolde nodded and said, "I didn't graduate from Celestial Academy because my class advancement got stuck."

She sighed and looked sad.

"Isolde, I'll help you advance." John decided not to waste more time with the students from Karlove Academy. He would stay in the starting village for another week and then leave. To get into Celestial Academy, his level would be very important.

"Okay, I believe you." Isolde smiled, but in her heart, she had already decided to give up the hidden class Guardian Knight. If John really got into Celestial Academy, and she stayed stuck at Stage 2, the gap between them would only grow bigger.

After lunch, the two of them looked through the forum, trying to find information about this game update.

But most of it was just guesses. There was no useful information.

"Looks like we'll have to go back into the game to find out." John said, bored. It was still early evening, and he wouldn't be able to log in until two in the morning.

Isolde nodded and put her phone down. She moved closer to him and gently kissed his face.

John smelled the sweet scent on her and felt his heart flutter. He smiled and said, "Isolde, you're making it hard for me to keep control."

Isolde gave him an annoyed look and whispered, "I didn't tell you to hold back."

John swallowed hard and gently pulled her into his arms. He said, "Isolde, I'm worried about your body."

Isolde leaned against his chest, her voice barely audible. "I like having sex with you."

After saying that, her face turned red, and she looked absolutely beautiful.
