Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Duel Against The Ghost

"Duel!" X 2

[Yutaka: 2000]

[Kaiba: 2000]

"My turn! Draw!"

According to their hand speed, Yuta was the first one to go, so he drew a card, bringing his hand total to six.

Honestly, it was such a good feeling to be able to go first AND draw a card.

If he was running an Exodia deck, he would be over the moon right now.

Actually, since this era had countless powerful draw cards, it really was a heaven for an Exodia player.

Like Card of Sanctity, which lets you draw until you have 6 in your hand; Card of Safe return that lets you draw 3 once a monster is summoned from either graveyard; Pot of Greed; Graceful Charity; and many more such draw cards.

In fact, it was stupid to not run Exodia and go for the FTK.

Though from the memories of the previous Yuta, he had learnt that Exodia was also a cursed card in this world, like Sakuretsu Armor or his Scapegoat (?).

Because it was such a strong monster, for it to be unsealed there had to be a ceremony of battle, so you could only gather Exodia at best in your second turn.

Though Yuta wondered how that would work if his deck was just made up of draw cards; would the curse still work?

"I summon Jinzo#7 in attack mode and set two cards."

[Jinzo#7] [DARK]

[LV: ★ ★]

[MACHINE / EFFECT MONSTER]

[This monster can attack your opponent's Life Points directly.]

[500 ATK / 400 DEF]

Yuta stopped thinking about it since he didn't have an Exodia and focused on the duel again and played his cards.

Among the remaining three cards in his hand there was also a Graceful Charity, but he didn't want to play it yet, as his cards were too good to be sent to the graveyard.

So it was better to keep it until he was cornered to play it.

"Hahaha! You are playing a trash monster card like that in your deck!?

Hmph!

Pegasus must not have keen eyes when it comes to selecting duellists for his Duellist Kingdom if he invited a 3rd-rate duellist with a 4th-rate deck like you." Hearing that, Yutaka wanted to remind him that he would be tortured by a trash monster known as Kuriboh countless times in the future but held himself back since it was not the real Kaiba.

What he didn't know was that the real Kaiba was also watching this duel after hacking into the arena.

It was an effortless feat since the duel arenas were made by the Kaiba Corp., and he had left a backdoor for himself in their system.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Jinzo#7! Attack Kaiba directly! Proto Psychic Blast!"

As it was called trash by the ghost, Jinzo was raring to go. Even though he knew that he was on the weaker side compared to his big brother, that didn't mean he didn't have his own pride.

"What!? You can't attack the players directly! Truly a 3rd-rate duellist, not even knowing the basic rules of the game. Hmph." The ghost mocked Yuta once again.

"That's where you are wrong! Jinzo#7's ability allows him to bypass the opponent's monsters and attack the player directly!" Yuta explained calmly. This was a gamble for him as well since there was one glaring flaw in his plan.

"...But you can't attack on the first turn?" Even the ghost had started to doubt itself, but he tried to stop the attack anyway.

"Where in the rules does it say that!?

The reason no one can attack on the first turn is because you can't attack the player directly and need to wait for your opponent to summon a monster first.

But my Jinzo#7 doesn't need to wait since it can attack directly.

Go for the final time! Prototype Psychic Blast!" Yutaka was feeling excited as he was using the power of bullshit – *ahem* I mean the power of mouth – for the first time.

Most importantly, he didn't even make up some ridiculous lore for his card but instead, used logic to convince his opponent.

It was also true.

Nowhere in the ruleset did it state that you can't attack on the first turn.

The players just directly skipped their battle phase since there was nothing to attack.

It was only during the Battle City arc that this rule was added explicitly since you could finally attack directly.

Ghost Kaiba couldn't come up with an argument and stayed silent.

Yutaka's Jinzo#7 slowly walked towards the ghost like a member of the Jojo clan.

He wasn't in a hurry, as there was nothing that could stop him anyway.

After he arrived in front of Ghost Kaiba, first he stretched his purple muscles and posed like a bodybuilder before weakly slapping the ghost.

 [Kaiba: 2000 → 1500]

It didn't hurt the ghost physically, but getting slapped like that certainly hurt his pride.

The real Kaiba watching the broadcast also didn't know what to feel.

He was happy that his imposter was getting humiliated like this.

At the same time, he was feeling complicated, as the one getting humiliated had his own face.

The ghost was one of the best con man duellists in the world.

Yes, he was an ex-criminal that Pegasus secretly recruited. He had stolen so many decks and deceived so many people under many different identities. But this was the first time he was insulted this much in his life.

"My turn! Draw!"

"I summon Hitotsu-Me Giant in attack mode! Go, my giant! Crush his puny monster!"

[Hitotsu-Me Giant ATK 1200]

"I activate my set trap card, Kunai with Chain. I turn your giant into defence mode and equip it to my Jinzo#7 raising his ATK points by 500."

 [Jinzo#7 ATK 500 → 1000]

[Hitotsu-Me Giant ATK 1200 → DEF 1000]

Sharing his master's anger, the giant excitedly rushed towards the purple cyborg.

Jinzo#7 on the other hand, was regretting his earlier arrogance.

He was just a weak prototype cyborg.

Why did he need to go and attract aggro like this by showing off?

But before he was crushed, the cyborg saw a chain weapon appear in front of him.

Instantly, he regained his earlier arrogance.

He alone was the honoured one in heaven and earth!

He threw the chain around the giant, and soon the one-eyed giant was unable to move. He pulled the chain forward, and the giant fell down.

The cyborg arrogantly placed his foot on the giant's face and looked down at him with disdain.

If he still had working vocal cords right now, he would have coolly said, 'Sit down!' to the giant.

Watching this scene, the fake Kaiba felt like he was about to burst a vein in anger.

"I set two cards and end my turn!"

"My turn! Draw!"

Looking at the card he drew, Yutaka was taken aback, as it was the first time he drew it, and it might even be one of the strongest cards in his deck.

With it, he had basically already won the duel, and there was nothing Ghost Kaiba could do to stop it.

"Hey, Mokuba, I have a question."

Seeing that he was suddenly called, Mokuba was a beat late to answer.

"Yes?"

"With the card I just drew, I can confidently say that I won the duel.

The problem is that this is too fast.

So I want to prolong the duel a little and see more of Kaiba's deck.

Is that okay with you? If you are uncomfortable, I can finish the duel this turn," Yutaka asked Mokuba.

He wanted to prolong his duel because it was one of the safest duels he had ever had since coming to this world, and, to be honest, his previous duels against Mai and Rex finished too fast.

Though that was the number of turns he was used to thanks to the modern era power creep that was full of OTK and FTK decks.

He needed to get used to the speed of this era if he wanted to evolve his Red-Eyes and, quote on quote, print new vests for it.

After all, he didn't even draw his Red-Eyes yet, but the duel was already over.

Not to mention this guy was using a copy (?) of Seto Kaiba's deck.

The previous strongest duellist in the world.

Even if he could not match the original, he should still represent the possible power ceiling of this era, shouldn't he?

So, in theory, he should have given him enough pressure to print a new vest for his ace.

But he was too weak!

That was why Yuta decided to let go of his previous win-or-die mentality and have fun, as there were no consequences even if he lost (for himself).

But he still needed to be cordial and ask the person in question.

After all, he was not an arsehole that would endanger someone else's life, even if the said person was destined to be imprisoned inside a card.

Before Mokuba even answered, both the real and fake Kaiba shouted.

"Impossible!"

Yutaka heard the ghost's shout echo just like a real ghost, but he thought he must be mistaken, so he replied.

"Doesn't matter what you think. I won. I am just asking the person whose fate we are duelling over to see if I can prolong it and have some more fun.

Speaking of, isn't he your brother?

Shouldn't you be happy that someone defeated you and saved him from the clutches of the vile Pegasus?"

Even though it wasn't directed at him, the real Kaiba replied instinctively, "Yes... but..." then he remembered he was watching the scene from a computer and he wasn't actually there at the moment.

But the fake Kaiba couldn't hold on anymore and just ripped out his face, revealing a plump middle-aged man underneath it all.

"It is impossible for you to have defeated me that fast! I am using the real Seto Kaiba's deck.

Even if he lost to Yugi Muto, he is still one of the strongest people on earth.

So how could you claim to have defeated me in just two turns?" The ghost demanded an explanation. Yuta was happy to oblige, as he wanted to give more time to Mokuba to think it over.

"First of all, nothing is impossible.

In this tournament my average number of turns to defeat an opponent is three.

Meaning, it is normal for me to be able to defeat someone in my second turn.

Secondly, even if Seto Kaiba himself were here, he would still lose to me.

Not to mention an imposter like you!"

"Yuta, don't you think that was too harsh?" Tristan tried to calm Yuta down because the fake ghost looked like it could jump down from the duel arena and start a physical duel at any second now.

Still, Yuta paid him no heed.

Maybe it was because he was a sociopath with a chosen one syndrome (since, you know, he didn't even feel awful over leaving his previous family behind), or because he was a duellist who managed to survive the gruelling, torturous environment of the future and climbed to the top, or even maybe it was because he was standing in front of the (fake) representative of the Blue-Eyes and he could not back down as the holder of Red-Eyes, so Yuta's bones were filled to the brim with arrogance right now.

Just before this duel, he was thinking to himself that he should fill his deck with more draw cards and seek stability, but right now he felt like he could take on the world itself.

He felt like, if he wanted to, he could set this whole world on fire and no one could do anything to stop him.

"Hmph, there is no way you can defeat Blue-Eyes White Dragon with your pathetic monsters!"

Kaiba in front of his computer had already gotten up from his chair and was looking at the screen with bloodshot eyes. Just because he was defeated by Yugi once, every Tom, Dick and Harry thought they could win against him, but they would all tremble under the might of his Blue-Eyes White Dragon!

"Who told you that you would even have the chance to summon it? Mokuba! Do I finish this or not?" Yuta turned towards Mokuba also with bloodshot eyes.

"Do I even have a choice?" Mokuba laughed at himself as he saw the same eyes of his brother in Yuta, so he knew his opinion didn't matter.

"No! But it is still the polite thing to ask first, isn't it? Jinzo#7 attack directly!"

Seeing the dark aura rising from his master, the cyborg decided to not play around, the big boss of the deck was coming, and it didn't want to be beaten up after returning to the deck, so it had to be swift.

The cyborg moved like a ninja and attacked the ghost with his kunai, instantly cutting down his life points by a large chunk.

[Kaiba: 1500 → 500]

"You can't even stop my direct attack. I won't play it but just look at this card and honestly tell me if you can stop it or not?"

Then Yuta revealed the spell card he drew this turn.

"Tremendous Fire?"

The fake Kaiba didn't even know what card that was, but the real Kaiba instantly frowned.

"Here is the description, but I doubt you would be able to stop it. Meaning you would die before even summoning that so-called strongest monster, Blue-Eyes White Dragon."

[Tremendous Fire] [SPELL]

[SPELL CARD]

[Inflict 1000 points of damage to your opponent's Life Points and 500 points of damage to your Life Points.]

"WHAT!? 1000 damage? But that's half my Life Points! How can such a card even exist? You must be cheating, and that must be a fake card!" The ghost couldn't believe it and immediately accused him of cheating.

"Tch! Nothing more than a faker. This is a balanced card because it trades half your total LP for a quarter of mine.

Anyway, I activate Graceful Charity to Draw 3 more cards and Discard Tremendous Fire and Witch of the Black Forest!"

"Wait a minute." The ghost tried to cut him off, but Yuta was already disinterested in him.

The only thing in his mind was how to teach those dragons their place.

"The witch's effect allows me to add Kuriboh to my hand."

"Graveyard effect?" This was the first time he had seen such a card, but the ghost was ignored once again.

"I summon the dragon with a thousand faces that represents infinite potential. The Fiercest! The Ferocious! The Dreadful! Red-Eyes Black Dragon!"

With Yuta's shout a powerful gust came over the field, and Red-Eyes Black Dragon arrived with a roar.

"I end my turn. Come on! Summon your pathetic Blue-Eyes so that I can show it to its place!"

Along with Yuta's words, Red-Eyes gave one more furious roar, declaring to the world there was nothing it could not take down in the world.

From his computer Kaiba checked Red-Eyes' stats and frowned. Then he laughed to himself.

"Only 2400 ATK points, and you think you can rival my Blue-Eyes!? Pathetic!"

Still a part of him wondered.

With these stats, how could this weak dragon be considered the rival of his mighty dragon?

Yes, to Kaiba, Red-Eyes Black Dragon was not an unknown card.

While gathering his Blue-Eyes, he had also heard the legend of the two dragons.

But once he had seen its ATK points, he had immediately lost his interest in this inferior dragon.

At this moment he so wanted to be in there facing this duellist himself instead of that faker.

"Computer, download everything regarding this duellist to my laptop, along with anything we have on Red-Eyes."

As Kaiba gave the order to his AI the ghost drew his card and started to laugh like Kaiba.

"I summon the strongest dragon. The Toughest! The Unbeatable! The Invincible! Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"

[Blue-Eyes White Dragon] [LIGHT]

[LV: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ]

[DRAGON / NORMAL]

[This legendary dragon is a powerful engine of destruction. Virtually invincible, very few have faced this awesome creature and lived to tell the tale.]

[3000 ATK / 2500 DEF]

Blue-Eyes' entrance to the field was even grander than Red-Eyes' entrance. Now the two dragons were looking at each other and roaring fiercely. Trying to dominate the other.

"What is going on?!" Tristan looked in horror towards the two behemoths in front of him.

The two monsters didn't look like holograms but looked as if they really were there, in flesh and blood.

In the last duel Tristan didn't see the actual process, so this was in fact the first time he had seen Blue-Eyes with his own eyes.

He couldn't believe that Yugi actually managed to beat not one but three of these things at the same time.

He was just facing one, but his legs were already about to give out.

What Tristan didn't know was that what he was facing was worse than what Yugi faced back then.

"It was your greatest mistake to not finish me off last turn. Now Blue-Eyes! Destroy his Jinzo#7 and bring me victory!"

The two dragons stopped their confrontation for a second as Blue-Eyes looked back, but Red-Eyes counted it as its win since Blue-Eyes was the one that backed down first.

Blue-Eyes looked towards the ghost with resentment and wished it could vaporise him with a blast of white lightning.

Still, for now, it was more important to win the duel and defeat Red-Eyes' master. That way it could regain some dignity.

"I activate Kuriboh. Any damage I take from this battle will be reduced to 0." Yutaka calmly replied, not even looking at his own monster.

Currently, the only thing in his eyes was the white dragon. He wanted to crush it into bits.

The purple cyborg looked left and right, but no one was caring about him.

That was good.

He wouldn't be able to survive in the spirit world if he annoyed either of these two bosses. But its hopes and dreams were shattered when his destruction was declared.

He decided to accept its fate calmly as he stayed where he was without moving while a white beam of light moved towards him. This way at least it would be fast and painless.

The ghost couldn't believe that Yuta took that hit and was still alive.

"My turn! Draw!" Yuta, however, didn't care about his thoughts.

In his eyes, The ghost was nothing more than the puppet of the white dragon in their confrontation.

"I activate Pot of Greed and draw 2 more cards. I activate Graceful Charity and draw 3 more cards. I discard Witch of the Black Forest and Ookazi"

[Ookazi] [SPELL]

[SPELL CARD]

[Inflict 800 points of damage to your opponent's Life Points.]

Before he knew it, Yuta had drawn 6 cards. He already had a winning condition in his hand, but he wanted to destroy each of the Blue-Eyes one by one, all with different methods!

"I add the Bacon Saver to my hand! Then I equip my Red-Eyes with Dragon Nails and raise its ATK points by 600 points!"

[Red-Eyes Black Dragon ATK 2400 → 3000]

"So what! Its ATK points are still only equal to my Blue-Eyes!" The ghost replied.

"Who cares! Red-Eyes destroy his white dragon! Inferno Fire Blast!!"

Just like Yuta, Red-Eyes also didn't care about its own death and clashed with Blue-Eyes fiercely.

Even though Blue-Eyes wondered what kind of madman it had encountered, it was still the strongest dragon, so it didn't back down and fired its white lightning.

As the two forces met in the middle of the field, a huge explosion took place, which blinded everyone in their presence.

The smoke from the clash slowly cleared, revealing a single monster standing on the field.

RED-EYES BLACK DRAGON!

It was roaring towards the sky, and the sky was covered in dark clouds with red lightning jumping between them.

"HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!?"

The real Kaiba had acted even faster than the ghost as he kicked away his chair in disbelief.

His Blue-Eyes had lost?

LOST?

"How?" The ghost managed to utter in a dumbfounded manner.

"Because of the equipment effect. Now summon the second Blue-Eyes." Yutaka explained coldly.

[Dragon Nails] [SPELL]

[EQUIP SPELL CARD]

[Equip only to a DARK monster.

It gains 600 ATK, also it cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects.

If this card is sent to the GY because the equipped monster was destroyed by battle and sent to the GY: You can Special Summon that monster, and if you do, equip this card to it, but banish this card when it leaves the field. ]

"But I already summoned this turn, and I don't even have the second one yet." The ghost tried to explain himself in fear. He didn't even know why he was afraid. The Red-Eyes on the field could not revive anymore, and he still had 2 more Blue-Eyes and 1 Monster Reborn in the deck. So he should be relaxed. But he wasn't.

"I draw. I end my turn. Go!" Yutaka didn't even glance at the card he drew.

It wasn't important.

He already planned how he was going to kill all 3 Blue-Eyes, and the pieces were in his hands.

"My turn! Draw! Hah-"

"Shut up! Play the second Blue-Eyes now!" As the ghost was about to monologue again, Yuta cut him short.

He was getting more and more irritable as the duel went on.

"Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"

The second Blue-Eyes arrived and looked at his Red-Eyes with hostility, as if it wanted to avenge her first sister.

Red-Eyes, on the other hand, had a smug look on its face, almost saying 'come and bite me if you have the guts.'

"I end my turn." The ghost said in a small voice.

"What? You don't even have the guts to attack my dragon? I was planning on using my trap card but it seems like you are not even worth it."

With Yuta's words, Red-Eyes snorted a bunch of smoke from its vulture-like beak as if it was dissatisfied with the duellist as well.

However, it was not the only one, as the second Blue-Eyes was also looking at the ghost with disdain.

"I activate the spell card Tribute to the Doomed! I discard Bacon Saver and destroy your second Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"

[Tribute to the Doomed] [SPELL]

[SPELL CARD]

[Discard 1 card, then target 1 monster on the field; destroy it.]

Giant black rotting hands jumped out of the zone under the second white dragon and dragged her to the underworld. Only thing it could do was look at its duellist with resentment.

Just where was Kaiba?

Why wasn't he the one using her?

"Third Blue-Eyes! Now!"

Looking at Yuta's rampage, Kaiba punched the keyboard in anger. How could there be someone so useless in the world? Pegasus, if this was his way of angering him, then he had succeeded.

As one Blue-Eyes after another was destroyed, Kaiba was about to have a brain aneurysm in anger.

The ghost gulped and drew a card. He was afraid that if he didn't draw a Blue-Eyes here, the madmen would kill him.

"The third—"

"Are you going to attack or not!?"

"No! It's your turn!" The ghost quickly ended his turn.

At this time the forgotten Hitotsu-Me Giant was watching the show from the first seat.

However, a part of him was worried.

It was fine and all to watch, but wouldn't the big sisters silence him after he returned to the deck to hide their shameful past?

After all, he was the only witness from the deck.

He only had a pitiful 1200 ATK as well.

Maybe right after this duel he would be replaced from the deck by Kaiba under the coercion of the big sisters?

They shouldn't be that petty... right?

As he saw the eyes of the third white dragon looking at him, the giant knew his sweet days were over.

"Okay then.

I admit.

Till now I have used tricks to overcome the difference between your attacks to take them down, but now, as the final attack, I will push you down with the strength that you are so proud of!" Yuta said as he looked towards Blue-Eyes.

In his eyes the ghost didn't even exist anymore since he had lost his value to him from the moment he summoned the third dragon.

"Okay, Red-Eyes, time to show them why you are called the dragon with infinite potential!"

Then Yuta put the two cards he had from the first turn in his hand to the field.

"I summon Meteor Dragon!"

A meatball of a dragon took the stage.

"I also activate the spell card! Polymerization!"

Red-Eyes looked towards the meatball dragon and felt disgusted, but it had no other choice. The master decided they were going with a frontal breakthrough as the last one, so it could only obey.

As the two dragons disappeared into a vortex together, soon another bigger, chunkier dragon took the stage.

"Come Forth! Meteor Black Dragon!"

[Meteor Black Dragon] [FIRE]

[LV: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ]

[DRAGON / FUSION]

["Red-Eyes Black Dragon" + "Meteor Dragon"]

[3500 ATK / 2000 DEF]

Despite being called a Meteor Black Dragon, this dragon had a purplish hue to it, and its body was leaking magma from everywhere.

The magma also seemed to be leaking in the shape of ancient and mysterious symbols, but Yuta was not interested in them at the moment.

"Meteor Black Dragon! Finish it with Infernal Meteor Crash!"

Meteor Dragon looked at him as if complaining that Yuta's special attack names had no originality, but it still took to the skies anyway.

Meteor Black Dragon pierced the black clouds with red lightning, jumping among them without any trouble.

As he dived back, the body of Meteor Black Dragon continued to be hit by the lightning, but it was not harmed by the strikes.

The red lightning was actually empowering it instead.

Flames covered Meteor Black Dragon's body as it crashed down, leaving a trail behind in its wake.

The third white dragon who saw this scene could only roar in sorrow, as currently an incompetent person was piloting the deck.

If it was her true master, surely, surely this duel would have gone differently.

After all, she was the strongest dragon!

There was no way she could lose to this black harlot of all dragons!

[Kaiba: 500 → 0]

With that, all tension suddenly left Yuta's body. He was feeling as light as a feather now... maybe too light.

"Tristan!"

"On it!" Already getting used to his babysitter role, Tristan caught Yuta before he fell down.

"Phew, with this they should leave you alone, Mokuba? Mokuba!" As he turned his back, Tristan saw the men they followed here kidnapping Mokuba.

It seemed like they never had the intention to honour the duel in the first place.

Unfortunately, he couldn't chase them now. He needed to wait for Yuta to wake up first.

***

At the same time, Seto Kaiba, who watched the duel from start to finish, punched the monitor of the computer to pieces.

It must be a lie.

There was no way his Blue-Eyes could lose like this.

*Bang*

The door to his lab was kicked open again, but this time Kaiba had no intention of running.

He threw the chair he was sitting on at one of the guards in tremendous anger, knocking him out.

Seeing the situation going south, the other one drew his pistol and fired a shot, but Kaiba blocked it with his briefcase before throwing it to the guard, knocking him as well.

Then he dashed towards the guards, grabbed one of them by the head and smashed it to the ground repeatedly, breaking the concrete beneath.

"Now, listen to me. And listen to me real good. Your master really, and I mean really, managed to piss me off! Tell him to rue the day he made an enemy of Seto Kaiba because I am coming after him!"

After saying that, Kaiba headed to the roof and headed towards the island where the Duellist Kingdom was being held with his private helicopter.

"Yu↑ta↓, you will pay for humiliating my Blue-Eyes like this! After I deal with you, I will find a way to defeat the Exodia of Yu↑gi↓"
