Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

As I opened my eyes, I felt the warmth of the sheets enveloping my body, a comforting reminder of last night's events. I turned my gaze to Miles, who was lying beside me. He was breathing slowly, his smooth brown skin glowing softly in the morning light, and his curly black hair fell effortlessly across his forehead. When he finally opened his eyes, I lost myself in the deep hues of his irises, a color so captivating that I could stare at them forever.

"I may be closing my eyes, princess, but I know you're staring at me," he said with a playful smile that sent a flutter through my heart. I couldn't help but grin back, my cheeks warming at being caught.

"Well, let me enjoy it while you're not looking," I teased, savoring the moment and the way everything felt right in that cozy space. The world outside faded away, leaving just us in this bubble of comfort and unspoken promises.

"So how are we going to explain 'this' to them?" I asked, looking into Miles' eyes. His gaze was steady, and I could see the warmth in it that made my heart flutter.

"Jayla, we'll tell them that we're in love, and they'll know the rest," he replied, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. I couldn't help but giggle at his confidence. It was one of the many things I adored about him.

"Anyway," I continued, shaking off the lingering seriousness of the moment, "I have to get ready and go shopping with Seraph for outfits and clothes for my new high school."

Miles pouted at me, that adorable, mock-somber expression he often wore when I mentioned leaving him. "How about just 15 minutes with me? That won't hurt," he suggested, his voice laced with charm.

I rolled my eyes, but felt a smile creeping onto my face. It wasn't that I didn't want to spend time with him, but the excitement of preparing for my new adventure was too enticing to resist. I turned and made my way downstairs, my thoughts drifting to my wardrobe choices, hoping to create an entrance that would make an impression at my new school.

As I walked into the kitchen to grab a quick bite, I could still feel Miles' gaze on me, an unspoken promise of what would come later.

Suddenly, the door clicked open, and Seraph was standing in front of me, a mischievous glimmer in her eyes and a sleek black card in her hand. "Girl, it's time for shopping! We need to find the most adorable outfits for your senior year in Brooklyn. You may have come to this last year just to be a senior, but it's still important!"

I laughed, feeling a wave of excitement wash over me. But just as I took a step toward the door, Seraph yanked me back. "Jayla, please tell me you're not going out looking like that! Because if you are… no way! When you go shopping, you have to look sexy!"

The way she said it made me chuckle. I glanced down at my outfit—a comfy oversized sweatshirt and some leggings. Sure, it wasn't anything fancy, but I had thought comfort was key. Still, I couldn't help but feel the thrill of her enthusiasm. There was something infectious about her energy, pushing me to step out of my comfort zone.

"Okay, okay! You've convinced me," I said, rolling my eyes but unable to hide my smile. "Let's do this." I knew I needed a wardrobe revamp if I wanted to make an impression this year. Senior year only comes once, and I wanted to make it unforgettable.

As I stood in front of the mirror, I slipped on my black crop top jersey, emblazoned with bold red bulls and the number 94. My hair was thrown up into a messy bun, with two rebellious strands framing my face. I adjusted my clear glasses, doing a quick once-over to ensure everything fit just right.

My baggy blue flare jeans flowed comfortably around my legs, and I laced up my blue Jordans, feeling the familiar rush of confidence that always came with a great outfit. Adorning my wrists were a few bracelets, rings that sparkled just enough to catch the light, and a delicate necklace draped gracefully around my neck. I finished the look with some eye-catching earrings and grabbed my Y2K-inspired white star bag, feeling ready to take on the world.

"Is this hot enough for you?" I playfully asked Seraph, who was waiting for me by the door.

"Oh, Jayla, you're looking completely hot—period!" she responded with a gleam in her eye, making me giggle with excitement.

"Since I'm all dressed up, how about a quick coffee? I could use a trustworthy friend to chat with other than Makeyla," I suggested.

She nodded enthusiastically, her curiosity piqued. "I have so many questions!"

I smirked, enjoying the challenge. "Guess away, but I'm not going to make it easy for you."

With that, we stepped out into the vibrant afternoon, ready to navigate our friendship one playful inquiry at a time.As I stood in front of the mirror, I slipped on my black crop top jersey, emblazoned with bold red bulls and the number 94.
