Sato Kuzunoha comes from a modest middle-class family in Japan. When his father's company transferred him to Tokyo, the entire Kuzunoha family relocated and settled in a small rented house. Enrolled in a public high school, Sato quickly became known as an average student—quiet, solitary, and more interested in video games than academics.
His mother constantly scolded him for his poor grades. One evening, after being harshly criticized again, Sato went to bed without dinner, frustrated with his life. While lying in the dark, he reflected bitterly on his misfortune: he had never been on a date, his crush was taken by another guy before he could confess, and even his little sister didn't respect him.
Lost in these gloomy thoughts, he eventually fell asleep.
Around 2 AM, a strange, blinding light suddenly burst from beneath his bed. Startled awake, Sato barely had time to react before the light swallowed him whole—transporting him to another world.
