Chapter 2 - First Death of a Timeloop Manic.

[Savepoint Loaded.]

The crimson panel slowly dissipated into Rain's mind, washing away like burnt paper. What was left were the remains of red. The text weighing heavily on him.

After the panel disappeared, what greeted him was an… alleyway? That's right. The corners of the tight caving were filled with barrels, leaned against timber woodframes and cobblestone walls. There were carts slumped against crates. Spoiled food scattered the ground.

"Where am I…" Rain mumbled instinctively. Though, he remembered the panel calling it "the central hub".

What kind of hub even is this? Shouldn't they clean important places?

With a sigh, Rain stepped closer and closer onto the piercing light. The end of the narrow alleyway. Somewhere there, he could hear bustling markets and townspeople bargaining for prices. He pivoted steps to avoid the mess on the ground.

Now, going closer, Rain could make out the silhouettes of the townspeople. They wore long, unsaturated robes, and brown boots to match. Seems the people dressed like it's the medieval era. The typical fantasy trope.

'I've watched enough anime for this.'

First and foremost, before even stepping foot outside the alley, he had to re-check his stats. Before Omo teleported him here, he saw a glimpse of it but not fully. Rain decided to check it properly this time. His own system stats.

Nothing special, except for the fact he can re-do time.

This Omo girl wasn't lying when she gave him the system. This seems overpowered, having enough resets to do stuff correctly and fix your mistakes. It's a handy tool.

Even if it's activated via death, from the name, it's still useful when facing an unbeatable enemy. This is sick! You could adapt to anything with this power!

"I seem too accepting of this situation…" Rain muttered to no one in particular.

It was true. He had nothing to lose in that old life. Might as well reset, and live his dream life to the fullest in this other world.

No matter how ass his stats are—FFF-rank, Low mana, no path and no runes—with that system ability, nothing is impossible. Not like he's softlocked to this stat. He can improve alongside this overpowered ability.

"Khahaha!" Rain laughed to himself. He'd look insane, if someone was watching. Thankfully he wasn't close enough to see outside the alley.

So he stepped closer and entered the bustling market.

Cling cling!

The sound of merchants ringing their bells echoed across the entire centre. In the middle, there was a fountain; carved with intricate dragon designs that screamed out years of history. Carts and wooden stalls stood around it, filled with apples, fruits, or anything that could be sold on a sunny morning. People were bargaining. Mothers holding their children. It was a happy place, to sum it up.

And Rain felt all alone, sunken up in that dark alley.

'Ahh, with clothes like these, I'll get weird looks… I should find a clothing shop first. Then, I could explore.' Rain looked down at his white T-shirt and black pants. Fully insecure.

He started walking around the hub, trying to land his eyes on something valuable; a clothing shop. Rain wouldn't be able to live with clothes like this.

But… not like he has money right now. Sure, he has a couple dollars in his pockets – but most fantasy settings only accept their own currency. Maybe the system could help.

"Please give me a hint, " Rain said to the system.

[Crowns: The main currency of the kingdom of Halos. Has denominations of one, five, ten, twenty, a hundred, two hundred, five hundred, and a thousand. All of them have linings for their value. Copper for one to twenty—silver for a hundred to five, and gold for a thousand. All of them are coins.]

That's… a lot to take in. But in summary, people use coins here that vary in denominations and have linings based on their value. Dollars can't be used, after all. They use 'crowns' instead.

Rain silently thanked the system in his heart.

Continuing to walk around the centre, he thought about not buying clothes anymore. Sure, he has weird clothing, but that doesn't mean they'll reject him at guild-quests. Not like he has a choice, either. He can't really pick if he wants to dress or not. The world is just unfair like that.

Rain pivoted his step, turning a sharp right where there are less people. This area is leaving the market sprawl.

Then again, he wasn't sure about any of this. He might get arrested for looking like a 'spy', but… he can respawn back anyways, can he? That's right. Rain nodded.

'I have to put a savepoint somehow. I don't want to restart in that dirty alleyway.'

Oh! This is a good spot.

[Savepoint Overwritten: The Park]

Rain stopped by a nearby park, sitting on the bench and putting a savepoint. There weren't that many people around here. It seemed abandoned, even. And that's just a perfect place to put a savepoint in.

If he dies somehow, he'll see the great scenery of grass and flowers. Rain's pain would calm down a little at this sight.

'But I'm not planning to die.'

Rain let out a self deprecating laugh. A few heads turned around him and he settled down.

'Sigh…'

'What was Omo thinking when she summoned me here? In fact, who even is that girl? I'm thankful, but… she's got to have some ulterior motive.'

Rain swung his legs below the bench, eyes darting across colorful petals of flowers. He recognized some: daisies, poppies, cornflowers. Not that he went outside often—he just played minecraft and liked decorating. They looked better in real life.

Maybe, he could give a bouquet to a girl in this world too. He hasn't really got the chance in his past life.

'Hah… that's pitiful to think about.' Rain thought, dismissing the idea.

He ricocheted on important matters.

Rain sighed. 'Now that I'm here, the only goal I can think of is getting stronger. Maybe, reach SSS-rank with this timeloop powers. I don't… have a specific goal in mind at this point in time.'

'Maybe something like living this life to the fullest. A life I've never gotten on my previous one. The only way to achieve that is by being stronger.'

'Right?'

'Maybe I should go see how they use magic around here.'

Looking around the park, pigeons flew by and children ran past the short-blades of grass. Flowers were scattered, along with fallen leaves and apples from the giant looming tree. In the middle: was a fountain. Seems it's in their culture to add one in the middle of landmarks.

This one, however, wasn't as detailed as the one from the center market. Which was understandable.

It still looked sturdy, though. It could probably hold Rain's own weight.

'Should I try?'

Rain shot up from the bench, walking over the giant fountain. It seemed to be made of cobblestone. A hard, sturdy surface that's twice the size of his body. Rain perked up, standing over its ridges and balancing himself on the thin rim.

He walked around the fountain, which caught the attention of some children. They giggled in response. Rain ignored all of them.

At this point, Rain was more focused on something else: the balance of mana in the air. From what he could sense—mana isn't from your body, but rather the environment from around. Like air. He could feel it, balancing his body upright by the mana's currents.

He wasn't perfect at it. In fact, he fell down quite a bit and restarted. A pitiful look, and made the children lose interest.

'I can sense mana…' He thought, jumping down the cobbled fountain. 'That's progress.'

Now, could he maybe make a ball of wind? If Rain could just control it… tweak the mana from the air… he could, theoretically, use the mana in the air.

But that raises questions like why "Mana pool" was in the system.

Focusing energy in his fingertips, Rain imagined currents flowing through his veins and the air around shaping a fist-sized gush of wind. In an instant—it actually appeared. A transparent gush of air, circling around to dance at Rain's palm.

He felt exhausted now, though. That's a problem.

His mana capacity was low after all. This is not good.

He felt dizzy. The entire world spinning.

He collapsed straight down the grass.
