A few months passed
in the seventh grade.
Out of the blue...
Riya was chosen as the class representative.
It wasn't a particularly important position, but to Riya, it had one unexpected advantage.
She finally had a reason to stand in front of the class.
Whenever the teacher asked everyone to maintain silence, Riya would stand near the front, watching the entire classroom.
At least, that was what she was supposed to do.
In reality, her eyes always found their way toward one particular person.
Lakshith.
She tried to be a responsible class representative, but every now and then, her attention would wander toward him.
If he was talking, she'd notice.
If he was laughing, she'd notice.
If he was quietly sitting at his desk, she'd notice that too.
She never said anything.
She simply watched from a distance.
Then, one ordinary morning after assembly, something happened that Riya would remember
for a very long time.
The students had already returned to their classroom.
Riya looked around.
Lakshith wasn't there.
She glanced toward the
doorway again.
Still nothing.
Where is he?
Before she could think about it any further, the teacher called her.
"Riya, bring the attendance register from the office."
"Okay, ma'am."
She quickly left her seat and hurried toward the office.
She was almost at the classroom doorway when—
Someone suddenly appeared from the opposite side.
Riya stopped.
Lakshith.
He was standing right in front of her, slightly out of breath.
It looked like he had been running to get back to class too.
For a second, neither of them moved.
They hadn't bumped into each other.
They simply stood there.
Looking at each other.
Their eyes met.
And Riya's heart immediately
began racing.
Why is my heart beating so fast?
She tried to move to one side.
At the same time, Lakshith moved in the same direction.
She shifted again.
He shifted too.
For a few seconds, they awkwardly struggled to get past each other because they were standing almost directly opposite one another.
Finally, Riya managed to
move past him.
She hurried toward the office.
But she couldn't stop smiling.
By the time she reached the corridor, her cheeks hurt from smiling so much.
She held the attendance register against her chest and walked back toward the classroom with an inexplicable happiness.
It had been nothing.
No conversation.
No joke.
No teasing.
Not even a proper greeting.
Just a few seconds of eye
contact in a doorway.
Yet somehow, that tiny moment made Riya fall a little deeper.
She wondered about it the
entire way back.
Did he feel it too?
When their eyes met, had his heart raced the same way hers had?
Had that moment meant
something to him?
Riya smiled to herself.
She wanted to believe it had.
But she couldn't know.
Perhaps he had felt something.
Perhaps he hadn't noticed it at all.
Only Lakshith knew.
Who knows what goes
inside his heart ???
Only....Him....
Or .....
Go...God....
