Chapter 73 - Chapter 73: Nothing Gained

"Peter, enjoy your meal. I'm leaving now," Silas said, shoving a slice of pizza into Peter's mouth, and hurriedly walked away.

"Mmm! Silas, why are you leaving in such a rush?" Peter managed to say, pulling the pizza from his mouth, but Silas was already gone.

Having left Peter, Silas breathed a sigh of relief. Peter was too talkative, and his brain felt like it was going to explode from all the chatter.

The Sewer

"This is the Lizard Serum you researched?" Silas said, shaking the green serum in the test tube.

The Lizard flicked his tongue. "Yes. Although I haven't tried it, based on the genetic formula, it should succeed."

"It doesn't matter, you're the one who's testing it anyway." Silas tossed the test tube back into the Lizard's hand.

The Lizard lowered his head, his eyes flashing with hatred. It was this black-clothed man! Otherwise, his plan would have succeeded long ago.

"Awoo!" The Lizard opened the test tube and injected the serum into his body.

From this, Silas noted that the Lizard injected the needle into the gap between his scales, which was a relatively vulnerable spot on his body.

Next, a Shadowkhan brought over a stool, and Silas sat quietly, waiting for the serum to take effect.

After a moment,

"Ah!" The Lizard suddenly roared, collapsing onto the ground on his hands and knees, his body gradually shrinking. Soon, the green skin receded, replaced by normal skin, and the scales retracted, giving way to human hair.

"Professor Connors," Silas called out.

"Ugh..." Professor Connors clutched his aching head. He didn't know whether he had succeeded or failed. Success meant his arm had grown back. Failure meant he had turned into a monster, a monster full of aggression.

"Thank you," Professor Connors said dejectedly, looking at his empty sleeve. He had still failed.

"You're welcome," Silas replied. This was, after all, a transaction—one Professor Connors wasn't fully aware of.

Wait a minute! Why didn't he gain any Justice Points?

[The Lizard Serum was created by the Lizard himself, and he injected it himself]

"..." Okay, Silas felt like he had worked for nothing.

"Do you want me to send you home?" Silas stood up and asked.

Professor Connors looked up at Silas. "Thanks."

A Shadowkhan then picked up Professor Connors and opened the Shadow Realm, preparing to take him out.

"Wait, what's your name?" Professor Connors turned and asked.

Silas thought for a moment. "Destiny."

"Destiny?" Professor Connors was carried away by the Shadowkhan.

Destiny was the code name Silas came up with on the spot. He planned to demonstrate this to Thanos if he got the chance.

Professor Connors left, and Silas also departed, taking all the experimental materials into the Shadow Realm.

In the Room

"Done." Silas stretched lazily and lay down on the bed.

After all that effort, releasing the Lizard and having him research the Lizard Serum, he ended up getting nothing for himself.

"Silas~" Peter had just returned to his room and heard movement next door. He could have come back sooner, but after eating the pizza, he had spent some time helping people, which delayed him.

Silas clasped his hands behind his head and crossed his legs. "I say, Peter, was the beautiful woman at Stark's party pretty?"

"Pretty... Wait! Silas, were you there?" Peter said sheepishly. Silas's words made him think of Natalie, the auburn-haired beauty, again.

"Where do you think that little pebble came from?" Silas replied testily. He didn't want Peter to pursue Natasha.

"So it was you who threw it," Peter finally realized the source of the pebble.

As long as someone had no malicious intent toward Silas and Peter, the Spider-Sense wouldn't go off, which allowed the two brothers to distinguish good intentions from bad.

"Silas, do you think... that red-haired beauty is pretty?" Peter asked. Although he didn't know Natalie's age, she was definitely older than them.

Silas looked at Peter expressionlessly. "Peter, you absolutely must not have any ideas about her." He didn't want to tell Peter the truth, fearing it would shatter the fantasy that had just blossomed. But he definitely had to extinguish this dangerous thought.

"Why?" Peter was confused. Why was Silas so against that beautiful woman? Did he like her himself? No way! He had Misty, didn't he?! Peter suddenly thought of something bad. Had Misty rejected Silas too?

Peter reached out and patted Silas's shoulder. "I get it, Silas. I understand that feeling."

"What feeling?" Silas hadn't said anything yet, so how could Peter understand?

"Did Misty reject your confession?" Peter said directly.

Silas immediately slapped Peter's hand away testily. "No, no, no. I just meant to say, shouldn't people our age be looking for young girls who are as energetic as we are?"

"But I failed when I confessed to Liz," Peter said, sitting down dejectedly on the stool.

"That's where you're wrong, Peter! You should tell Liz, 'bye-bye is bye-bye, the next one is better!'" Silas encouraged Peter.

"But we weren't even together," Peter felt Silas was missing the point.

"Trust me, Peter, you will meet the most important girl in your life, I guarantee it." A name popped into Silas's mind: Gwen Stacy.

"Alright," Peter shrugged. Since she was just someone he met once, and Silas said so, he would abandon the idea. After all, it wasn't very likely; she worked for Stark Industries, and she would probably only be interested in Stark.

The Next Morning

"Silas, are you going to the Hammer Industries exhibition of armored suits?" Peter leaned next to Silas and asked.

They were eating breakfast, and Peter had glanced at the newspaper Ben Parker was holding, spotting a news story about Hammer Industries.

Silas saw Uncle Ben and Aunt May focused on their food and whispered, "Peter, you know people like us can't get in without an invitation."

"Of course I know that," Peter winked. "But we can sneak in, can't we?" Peter planned to use his abilities to sneak in and take a few interesting photos at the scene.

Silas hadn't expected Peter to have this idea. If he remembered correctly, the site would be a chaotic mess, and Whiplash would make an appearance. He wondered how many Justice Points Whiplash would earn him.

"Are you two talking about Hammer Industries?" Ben Parker put down his newspaper and smiled. He had heard Peter mention Hammer Industries.

"Yes, Uncle Ben. We're quite interested in the things they're exhibiting," Silas responded.

"It's a shame people like us can't get in, but we can still read about it in the news later," Ben Parker said, holding up the newspaper.

Silas and Peter exchanged glances, silently agreeing to check it out when the time came.
