Meteor street !
District 3, [7 Nights] Medical Clinic
"Oh? You want a free treatment? Do I look that easy to fool?"
In his white coat, the young man looked down at the man sprawled at his feet, a mocking sneer cutting across his face.
"W-wait! Hold on!"
"I… I still have a piece of bread! Please…!"
Startled by the sneer, the patient began pleading desperately for his life.
Before he could finish speaking, a sharp crack echoed, and his vision was swallowed by darkness.
"Are you actually that stupid?"
"Once you're dead, the bread belongs to me anyway."
With an amused smirk, the young man rolled the corpse over, searched the pockets, and pulled out
a crushed loaf of bread.
This was a rule he set himself: he only accepted food as payment for medical treatment.
And of course, if someone tried to get treated for free, he had no problem "collecting" the fee
personally.
" tch… this bread is tiny."
He stared at it and shook his head, clearly disappointed.
He had assumed the guy was hiding something big—big enough to make him try getting treated
for free. Instead, it turned out to be a sad, dried-out loaf.
"Speaking of which… it's been almost a year since I ended up here."
He casually slid open the drawer of the treatment table, revealing a stash of canned food, stale
bread, and other supplies, then tossed the newly acquired loaf inside.
While doing so, he grumbled under his breath:
"Why hasn't my system shown up yet?"
"The plot starts in six months…"
That's right!
The young man was a time-traveler.
His name was Trafalgar Law, and he had arrived on Meteor Street a year ago.
Since then, he had been living there, earning his keep by treating the wounded in exchange for food.
He wasn't a famous doctor by any means,
but he excelled at handling injuries—cleaning wounds, stitching cuts, and applying bandages.
With skills like that, surviving on Meteor Street wasn't impossible.
It's just that every now and then, someone tried to get treated for free, and he never hesitated to
deal with them personally.
However, lately, something had been bothering him.
As a time-traveler, he still didn't have a system—and that simply didn't make sense !!!
Thinking this, Law muttered helplessly,
"Could it be… that I really don't have a system?"
Just then, a curious voice rang out:
"Why the long face? Is it because the bread's too small?"
Law looked up instinctively.
Seeing the approaching figure, he smirked and teased,
"Well, well, who do we have here~?"
"So it's Shizuku… dinner's ready?"
A girl appeared in the cabin—adorable, glasses perched on her nose, yet radiating a strangely
powerful aura.
This was Shizuku Murasaki, future Phantom Troupe's No. 8 member.
Their encounter? Totally by accident.
A year ago, Shizuku had been seriously injured in a fight and collapsed by the side of the road.
By sheer coincidence, Law happened to be passing through Meteor Street at that exact
moment.
Acting in his capacity as a doctor, he immediately rushed to provide emergency treatment.
Little did he know…
That single act would end up bringing him a future friend and companion !
"…"
At that moment, Shizuku nodded.
"Law, dinner is ready."
Her voice carried softly as she raised one hand, making a gesture in the air.
Without warning, a vacuum cleaner with sharp teeth materialized in her hand.
"Blinky, spit out the lunch."
The strange 'vacuum' obediently opened its mouth wide to release the lunchbox.
Law caught it and opened it to find a box brimming with meat.
This explained everything.
The reason he specifically accepted food as a consultation fee.
He replaced all the bread and canned goods with real, nutritious meat and vegetables to sustain
the human body.
"Blinky's amazing!"
Law couldn't help praising as he gazed at the steaming meal.
Then he opened the drawer of his treatment table, pointing to a stash of food.
"Time to collect today's consultation fee as well."
Honestly, a portable space was super convenient.
And the process of sucking in and taking out?
Law thought, if you're given the space, why bother over small details?
"…"
Shizuku nodded at Law's words and moved Blinky closer to the drawer.
The pop-eyed vacuum cleaner, trained by countless repetitions, immediately sucked up all the bread and canned food, no reminders needed.
"Awesome job, Shizuku! You're amazing!"
Law praised, even though he had been repeating the compliment every time he saw Blinky this
past year.
A modest remark, but enough to steal Shizuku's heart.
In just three months, their bond had naturally deepened.
Law realized the sweetness of true patience and mutual understanding.
Out of nowhere, a voice rang through the air:
Ding!
"Congratulations! The host has survived a full year!"
"You have fulfilled the conditions to unlock the Strongest Cultivation System."
"The system is officially online, and 1 Newcomer Gift Package will be awarded!"
Law blinked in disbelief. "!!!???"
