Chapter 1 - Richard Ziro

As night gave in to day, three thousand strong flowed into Ramzel Square. The venue resembled a huge glistening gem at the heart of Dixon city. All of them had gathered for one sole reason . A concert.

Not by anyone though; he was one of the most famous artistes in the world. How the world adored his name.

Amelion

Amelion commanded the music industry. His genre was a merge of genres, imagination and raw talent. The throng bubbled with excitement. The anticipation was almost tangible for Amelion was releasing a new song in the live performance. Suddenly the venue was bathed in darkness tainted with phone lights. On the spur of the moment, the stage came alive with lights and artificial fog. The crowd screamed.

"IT'S HIM IT'S HIM, IT'S AMELION!"

A girl shouted into the ear of a young man beside him and shook him enthusiastically.

Painfully the man remembered that the only reason the girl had agreed to spend the night with him was because he had bought her a ticket to the concert. Now she had totally forgotten about him. A silhouette began to appear amidst the fog. A figure appeared , tall and majestic with his long arms outstretched as if to hug the world. A microphone echoed through the rest of the world.

A moment later an ambulance picked up the girl who had swooned out of excitement. The young man watched sullenly. Amelion's excellence shook the world. For the few minutes he performed in Ramzel Square, Dixon city put a million dollars in his account..

Richard woke up with a start as the bus came to a halt. He groaned. He was once again dreaming about himself being a superstar named Amelion. It had been his dream when he was younger . But as he grew he had eventually given up and deemed it as pointless. He agreed with the conclusion of his parents that nothing that big could come out of the old farm town of

Shomoto. He sighed, got out of the bus and walked on to the path that led to his home.

The Sun was setting in the Western horizon when he arrived at his humble abode. The structure was shadowed from the orange Sun by the Shomoto Hills that gave the town its name. His hand reached out for the latch to his gate but he hesitated a bit. He had bought some groceries and other provisions and they were all in a grocery pack. At least he had not arrived empty handed.

Richard was received by his wife who gave him a warm hug and relieved him of his goods. He could not help but smile at her excitement and her hospitality despite the array of thoughts in his mind. For a while he forgot about the real world. The couple chatted amiably as they helped themselves to some tea. It was after the tea that the glee that was written in the air gradually dissipated and was replaced by an awful gloom.

" So how was work today?" Marianna asked. Her wife's name was Marianna.

They was no need to lie. Richard had lost his job, again. He had only been there for two months. It had been a pattern now. He did not earn much just a meagre amount but at least he earned something. The smile on Marianna was not there anymore. Richard could not bear to look into her eyes. If he was living alone, he would find comfort in his pack of comrades. But he had a wife ... and a little child . His son, Ivan was only nine months old . He had been the reason for their early marriage. It came as a shock when he learnt that Marianna was pregnant. His youthful freedom had been swapped. He had had to grow up suddenly and start working. His father had chased him out of his homestead.

Back in the day, Marianna was the most beautiful girl in town. She came from a well off family and his father was a lion of a man. Marianna herself had a tough personality and just staring at her eyes could make a man hot under the collar. Many a man tried to win her but they regretted, for she made them feel like muck after an encounter.

She had told Richard that what had attracted her to him was his unusual innocence and his golden voice.

On top of that, Richard was a very handsome man and he loved Marianna genuinely. They both seemed naturally made for each other.

But what would it benefit a man if he got the woman of his dreams only to spend the rest of his life suffering? When it came to be known that Marianna was pregnant, her father was very furious and both of them were in big trouble. What bothered her old man was that she was not ashamed about her affair with a lower class boy.

Marianna 's father told her to choose to get rid of the pregnancy or leave the house and all its prestige. She was adamant. Marianna left for Richard the following day.

About a year later, her husband was now telling him he had lost another job.

" l don't regret leaving my father's house and l never will. Will get out of this together." Marianna said.

" Thanks but.." Richard started.

" Are you with me?"

" Yes, doesn't it bother you that l am basically a loser?"

Marianna slapped him softly and held him by the collar.

" One thing I know that's not true, you'd be stupid if that is your conclusion about life. Don't worry, Richard. Today, rest . Tomorrow you set your eyes on greener pastures."

" This is one reason why I love you"

Richard smiled.

Marianna embraced him smiling and held him close.

Though this was aimed to make Richard relax, the thoughts came coming back. He had to find a way and solve his problems, and fast. There was something about this recurring dream that was just pointing out the way ahead.
