Grandma Li scoffed. "Almost two years of engagement and still no wedding. I may not be a man, but even I can tell when a man doesn't actually want to marry the woman he's engaged to."
"I'm sure they're just taking their time," Huang Yuyan said weakly.
"Oh?" Grandma Li raised an eyebrow. "Or perhaps they're simply not meant to be. I still don't understand why he proposed to that girl in the first place. Ridiculous."
"Mother! Little Lu is a nice girl!"
Grandma Li sniffed. "I promised my late son I wouldn't meddle too much in my grandsons' lives. That's why I hide away in these mountains. So even if I disagree, I let him choose. But if he truly marries that girl…" Her eyes sharpened. "Then he'll be a blind fool. And I'll be ashamed to have such an idiot in our Jin family."
"Mother, that's too harsh!"
"Harsh?" Grandma Li replied calmly. "I'm simply telling the truth."
Elena suddenly felt like she had wandered too close to something she wasn't meant to overhear.
