Jin Di sat in the back seat of his car, skimming through a stack of documents with practiced focus. Outside the tinted windows, the city slid past in muted streaks. One of his subordinates drove in silence, while Ryan Zhao occupied the front passenger seat, fingers flying across his laptop as he replied to emails.
They were on their way to a business meeting at another company.
His phone rang.
Without looking at the caller ID, Jin Di tapped the wireless earpiece already in his ear. Only a handful of people had access to his private number.
"Hello?"
"Jin Di, my dear, how are you?" came a familiar, elegant elderly female voice.
He immediately set the documents aside. His posture straightened, attention fully shifting to the call. "I'm doing well, Grandmother. How are you?"
"I'm getting old," she replied with a sigh.
"I disagree," he said calmly. "You haven't aged in years. You're still as beautiful as ever."
