Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Reborn

"Chen Yang, you're not human!"

The woman on the bed let two lines of clear tears stream down her beautiful face.

She was naked, huddled in the blankets, and crying.

Her fair and delicate body, as white as snow, trembled incessantly.

Seeing such a blood pressure-raising scene, Chen Yang's head buzzed for a moment.

He threw off the covers abruptly, revealing smears of blood on the old-fashioned cotton sheets, which were particularly glaring.

In that moment, a flood of long-forgotten memories surged into Chen Yang's mind.

What's going on? Another nightmare?

No! Chen Yang pinched his arm hard.

The intense pain made his whole body tremble suddenly. It's not a dream!

What happened?

Ignoring the crying woman beside him, Chen Yang got out of bed quickly and began to survey the room.

A large wooden wardrobe and a broken wooden table. And earthen walls that let in drafts from all sides.

Hmm, it's very familiar. It had appeared countless times in his dreams.

But Chen Yang was certain that this was not a dream. Everything was so clear, as if he had been reborn.

Thinking about this... Boom! Chen Yang's mind jolted violently.

Then, the door was pushed open. A man with gray hair and a wrinkled face stormed in angrily.

"Dad?"

That's right! This man was none other than Chen Yang's father, Chen Yuanchao, who had been dead for many years!

Chen Yang stared wide-eyed as his father picked up a carrying pole and began to beat him severely.

"You bastard!"

"She's only 18! You've already... you... you've disgraced the Chen family!"

Chen Yuanchao's carrying pole slammed heavily onto Chen Yang's shoulder. Chen Yang did not dodge.

The intense pain nearly made him faint. But compared to the pain, the joy in Chen Yang's heart burst forth like fireworks, instantly making every pore on his body open up!

He had indeed been reborn! He remembered it clearly; it was the summer of 1977! That night that changed Chen Yang's life!

In his memory, Chen Yang and several young men from the same village had gotten drunk. In a daze, he had climbed into bed with Uncle Lin's youngest daughter, Lin Anyu. Amidst Lin Anyu's heart-wrenching struggle, everything that should have and shouldn't have happened had occurred.

Lin Anyu was a woman of strong character and a virtuous young woman. Having been defiled by Chen Yang, she could not bear the humiliation and had committed suicide by jumping into a well the next day.

Lin Anyu's older sister, Lin Anrou, had become mentally unstable after her younger sister's death and had disappeared in the deep mountains a few years later.

The Lin sisters were the daughters of Uncle Lin, a comrade-in-arms of Chen Yang's father. Feeling guilty for not taking good care of his comrade's orphan, the old man had volunteered to go to the back mountain to guard the forest farm. As it turned out, on a Mid-Autumn Festival evening...

The old man had been patrolling the mountain when he bumped into a black bear that had come out to forage for food and had been immediately disemboweled.

Chen Yang's mother also could not bear the series of blows and had fallen ill, passing away a few years later.

Chen Yang's desires had led to the destruction and death of two families.

A few years later, filled with guilt, Chen Yang had left the village where he had grown up and ventured into the big city.

He was lucky; he had been born in a good era. Riding the wave of reform, Chen Yang had seized the opportunity and stood at the forefront, soaring to great heights. With his shrewd mind and keen insight, Chen Yang had worked hard for half his life and had eventually become the CEO of a listed company, accumulating a huge amount of wealth and status.

But what had happened in 1977 had become a nightmare that Chen Yang could never shake off. He had confessed to the mistakes he had made countless times. Even on his deathbed, he still had longed to go back in time, change everything, and prevent the tragedy from repeating itself.

And now, God really had given him this opportunity.

"Dad, I was wrong!"

Chen Yang rolled off the bed decisively and knelt down in front of Chen Yuanchao with a thud.

One of the reasons for the tragedy in the previous life: after the scandal had broken out, Chen Yang had adopted an attitude of shirking responsibility and evading it, causing Lin Anyu to suffer a second blow.

This lifetime, Chen Yang was determined not to repeat the same mistake!

He knelt on the ground and kept kowtowing, his head slamming heavily against the ground with a loud "thump-thump."

"Dad, I'm sorry, I'm sorry to Uncle Lin, and I'm even more sorry to Lin Anyu. I've let you all down, and I'm willing to do everything I can to make up for my mistakes!"

Chen Yuanchao, who had just lifted the carrying pole, paused for a moment.

He knew his son's temperament well; he was usually idle and prone to petty theft. What's most hateful was that he refused to admit mistakes. People say that a prodigal son who returns is more precious than gold. But this son, no matter how big a mess he makes, will always refuse stubbornly to admit it. For this reason, Chen Yuanchao had been so angry with his son that he almost had a heart attack.

Unexpectedly, this kid had actually admitted he was wrong! But what's the point?

"You know you were wrong now? Too late! Don't apologize to me, go apologize to your Uncle Lin in the afterlife!"

Chen Yuanchao took a deep breath, raised the carrying pole, and was about to slam it down on Chen Yang's head.

This son had made such a grave mistake. He had let his comrades down! That was a comrade-in-arms who had taken a bullet for him and had entrusted his two daughters to him!

Chen Yuanchao treated the Lin sisters almost like his own daughters, hoping to comfort the spirits of his fallen comrades. But he never expected this: his own son had hurt his comrade's daughter like this. He did not want this son anymore!

Holy crap! Seeing that his father was contemplating murder, Chen Yang had not expected his father to be so angry. He had finally gotten a second chance at life. He did not want to pay for his mistakes with his life right away. After all, even if he died, the tragedies of the Chen family and the Lin sisters would continue to occur.

Since what had happened today had already occurred, Chen Yang made up his mind to make amends for his mistakes in a more meaningful way and to prevent all the tragedies that followed from happening again.

Just as the carrying pole was about to fall, Chen Yang dodged backward decisively, avoiding the deadly attack.

"Still dare to hide?" Chen Yuanchao flew into a rage immediately.

He picked up the carrying pole and swung it at Chen Yang without any mercy. Chen Yang could only hide around the house. In this way, it made a lot of noise.

Hearing the commotion, Liu Shufang, the mother, rushed in from outside.

"Chen Yuanchao, you only have one son left now, do you really want to kill him?"

Liu Shufang stood in front of Chen Yang immediately to protect him.

"Get out of the way! I'll pretend this beast never existed, but I'm going to beat him to death today!"

"If you kill him, you'll pay with your life!"

"Fine, you're all dead, so I'm not going to live either!"

"Chen Yuanchao, come here, hit here!"

Liu Shufang had a fiery temper. She was about to ram her forehead into Chen Yuanchao's carrying pole.

Chen Yuanchao, not daring to hurt his wife, threw away the carrying pole quickly with a clatter.

Liu Shufang glared fiercely at Chen Yuanchao. She turned around and went to the bedside.

Seeing Lin Anyu huddled in bed, crying her eyes out, Liu Shufang's eyes also turned red instantly.

"Poor child!"

Although Liu Shufang felt sorry for her son, the thought of Lin Anyu, who had lost her parents, being bullied by her own son made her angry.
