Flynn gave a quick nod. He hadn't pulled any dirty tricks, so guilt wasn't weighing on him.

Milo's voice cut through the room like a blade. "That's enough. Proper authorities will handle the Cross family situation. This party ends now. Everyone out."

His commanding tone left no room for argument.

Just like that, the celebration was finished. Taking Milo's decree as law, guests started streaming toward the exits.

I sat back, casually sipping my coffee while passing Sue a tissue for her tears. Not a soul here would ever imagine connecting someone like me to a scandal that had rocked all of Arland.

Abel picked up on something off. Before making his exit, he moved toward me with polished confidence. "Could we talk privately?"

I didn't bother looking his way. "I'm not in the market for new friends."

My blunt response caught him off guard, though irritation never crossed his features. That faint smile stayed put, the lighting catching his face just right.
