Irina's POV

The only thing that makes sense is someone erased my memories. But who would do that? Who benefits from keeping me in the dark? I'm stumped.

Vera went on, "That fire was weird though. Middle of winter—how'd it even happen? And why'd it spread like that?"

I smirked, a wicked spark dancing in my eyes. "Maybe I set it."

"Cut it out," Vera said, giving my head a light tap. "You hungry? I'll cook something up for you."

"Seth needs food too. Kid's always eating but never gets any taller. He's ten now and still won't go to school."

Vera kept grumbling as she shuffled toward the kitchen, leaving me alone in the quiet courtyard.

I wasn't joking around. If push came to shove, I really could've torched that whole village.

Seth came racing in and thrust a report at me.

"Nice work," I said, messing up his messy hair. I grabbed the report and looked it over.

Tilda's medical file—Seth had broken into the hospital's system to snag it.
