An investigator noticed Lena's frantic movements and called out to his superior. "Boss, looks like she's got something to tell us."
"Cut her loose," the team leader ordered.
Someone yanked the gag from Lena's mouth. She gasped desperately, struggling to breathe.
"This better be worth our time," the man said, massaging his temples.
"If I give you more intel, will you release my daughter?" Lena's question was direct. "That's all I'm asking for."
The leader's response was measured. "That'll depend on what you're offering."
Erik stared at Lena, shock flooding his features.
"Lena, have you lost your damn mind?" he demanded.
Lena clenched her jaw and spoke louder. "I'm reporting that Erik murdered his own brother—my husband, Bryce Cross."
Bryce should have inherited leadership of the Cross family.
But Erik's jealousy consumed him. He tampered with Bryce's medications and laced his daily meals with slow-release poison, hastening his brother's death.
