Chapter 3 - The Yildizs...

Ayse...Azra...Yildiz...! the voice of Mrs. Yildiz rang through the house's kitchen as she cut away the remaining pieces of carrots. Sliding them to the wooden board. Her green eyes flickered to her daughter who made her way down the stairs.

Ayse strode past the hallway, her lavender attire grazing against the floor as she then gazed at her mother. she went to her and greeted her in a warm way.

Ayse's pov: I saw mother's face, she looked tired and called me for me, so I waited for her to speak.

("Hayirli sabahlar, anne") "Good morning, mother" I greeted her. She smiled back at me as her tardiness were evident in her eyes.

("Hayirli sabahlar kizim") "Good morning, daughter" She murmured. I smiled then stepped in to help her--Though she rejected.

My mother had always been the one to do all the work. Her in laws--my grandmother and my grandfather had been cruel to her. In family gatherings, while we chatted, she was the one at the back, at the kitchen, working away.

"Yeter kizim, Yeter, iyyim" (enough, my girl, enough, I'm good")( Belkis 'i al...) "Get Belkis, that girl has been cooped up in her room for two days now"

I smiled and nodded then fled to her room. Belkis's room was at the very top. I soon reached her door, seeing it slightly cracked.

I then knocked on it, twice, thrice: Nothing...

So, I went in, announcing my arrival. "Belkis...I'm coming in"

Just as I stepped in the room, my eyes landed on her crumpled up figure on the bed. Her brown locks pooled over the edge of the bed as she clutched at her phone. lazily typing away.

I sighed and went near her, knowing that she hasn't even noticed my presence. I leaned, planting my hand on the duvet as I then crept in behind her.

My eyes landed on the screen, she was on a marriage website...?

My voice came out before I could stop myself--"Uhm... what are you...?" Belkis shrieked as she turned to face me. Her eyebrows were raised, green eyes falling guiltily.

"W-What are you doing here?" she asked me back, clutching at her phone to her chest. I tilted my head,

'I should be asking you that... a beat--What were you doing on that website?

W-What website? she feigned innocence, backing away as I stepped in near her. Then, I yanked and easily got a hold of the phone. Swiftly, my eyes darted.

Belkis gazed at her sister, biting her nails as she looked away. Then--Ayse looked at her and sighed. Belkis... she snaked a hand over her shoulders.

Belkis was taken a back slightly as she was met with a hug. "ah, my dear sister"... she murmured, her voice muffling with something between amusement and frustration.

We pulled away and as I gazed at Belkis. She avoided my eyes as if a kid who got caught stealing a candy. My eyes flickered, Belkis had never been the type to talk to boys or do anything even close to that.

I then recalled the days of me and her at elementary school. How the boys there used to hit on me. I had always been very shy and had avoided talking. My friends? nonexistent.

Just Belkis...

"Merhaba!" Ahmet--My classmate purred. I gave him a quick glance, feeling his intense stare, I tucked away a stand of hair in my veil.

M-Merhaba... I replied back. He conversed with me, asking me on my well-being and he was really nice about it.

I replied to him and we even became friends. Soon, the bell rung. He then reached out his hands to me as if to offer a handshake. I looked at him and hesitantly sprung out my palm.

He acted faster and held my wrist. Just then, from the afar, we heard the yell,

"Ayse'yi birak!" We parted slightly as I saw Belkis. She sprinted to our direction and clutched my arm. Giving Dogan a glare she quickly dragged me away.

I turned to Ahmet above my shoulder, he had a soft, amused smile on his lips. Then he mouthed it, "We will talk more"

My lips curled as I then nodded.

--Now looking back at her, I couldn't help but laugh yet I held it in. She pouted her lips, "I'm sorry"...

Why are you sorry? I asked. You did the right thing by giving dad's number... Belkis shot me a shocked look. "So you are not angry?" she asked.

I patted at her, "not even a little"

We smiled and conversed about this new "man" "He looks so perfect"... Belkis's voice trailed off, dreamily as she stared up. Going on and on about his looks. While my eyes darted.

He is blonde...I mean kind of like...uhm, oh yes! she leapt to her feet and spun on her heel. Belkis strode to a shelf.

I shot her a look as my eyes followed. She rummaged through the things, mumbling.

Ugh, where is it...? (rummages*) Oh, found it! she yelped. I gazed at her amused as she then held a box.

My eyes then danced with recognition--It was my school yearbook. I clasped my face in horror as she flipped through the flimsy pages. There was a younger me, clutching at my hijab. I looked horrendous with the glasses that I wore--Which I thankfully, I'm in no need of them.

Look! she shrieked; her fingers planted on a picture of...

"Ahmet"... a whisper left my lip, as I then clutched at the photo. Ther he was, Ahmet, my childhood friend--"And your first puppy love" Belkis ended.

Belkisss... I hissed at her as if to scold. Then my attention returned to the image of the little boy, how he clutched at my arms. I sighed over and over, not paying a thought on Belkis's intense gaze.

She watched her older sister, Ayse--How quickly her demeanor flipped.

Ahmet... a thought tugged at her, "how are you?" her eyes then fell.

Maybe she would now or maybe...she will never learn...
