Warner's POV
"Do we know if he's alone in there?" Arlene's voice cuts through the tension filling the car.
"Two others are with him. My younger brothers, most likely. But we've got the entire grounds covered."
"This place is massive," she finally meets my gaze.
"That's subjective," I chuckle.
"So you can be arrogant too," she exhales deeply.
The sound carries both relief and weariness. My human has this twisted sense of humor that grounds her when everything else falls apart. Maybe I should let my father handle her piece of shit father after all.
"When the mood strikes," I flash her a smile, trying to keep this fragile peace between us intact.
