Chapter 3 - The Dying Elf

Kazien weaved through the bustling thoroughfares of Lazavis City, sandwiched between merchants, laborers, and adventurers setting out for their morning activities. His bright eyes darted left and right like a lost puppy searching for a misplaced toy. But this particular "puppy" had a very specific target in mind—a cute boy, of course.

He tilted his head, squinted, and even stood on tiptoe several times, scanning the crowded street with the serious dedication of a veteran scout.

He sighed dramatically. Alas, not a single person managed to capture his heart.

Oh, Goddess Nirfelia, please… just one cute boy. Just one. I beg you.

He was still glancing around repeatedly when he reached the Adventurer's Guild, causing the adventurers in the lobby to start whispering amongst themselves.

"Why is Duke Elgard's third son here?"

"He's even more handsome up close… but why does he look like he's searching for someone missing?"

"Maybe he is?"

Just then, a beautiful receptionist with neatly tied pink hair approached him and bowed gracefully.

Kazien blinked.

"Ah! Right! I forgot what I came for!"

Rosalia almost stumbled. How does one forget the very reason they walked into a guild?

"I want to be an adventurer. Please process it immediately!"

Rosalia handed him a registration form, expecting him to take his time filling it out. Instead, Kazien snatched the quill like a scholar defending his thesis and wrote with lightning speed.

Rosalia accepted the completed form—and froze.

"Young Master… are you certain this information is correct?"

"Of course! Want proof?"

Without a moment's hesitation, Kazien raised his hands and simultaneously summoned spells from eight different elements: fire, wind, water, earth, light, darkness, lightning, and ice.

The guild lobby fell silent instantly.

A spoon clattered to the floor.

A man fainted.

"Also, here's healing magic! Give me your hand, Rosalia!"

"My… hand?"

Before she could question him, Kazien abruptly scratched her palm.

"??!!"

Rosalia stared at him—a mix of betrayal, pain, and confusion—before a rush of warm, healing energy instantly washed over the wound, erasing it completely.

Her expression shifted dramatically from Why di you hurt me?! to Oh my goddess, he's amazing.

"Now the last one—the transparent element!"

Kazien grabbed a book.

Pop! It vanished.

"Where did—"

"Storage dimension! Here."

Pop! The book reappeared effortlessly.

"Have I proven everything?"

Rosalia nodded with trembling hands. "Y-Yes… absolutely…"

Minutes later, his adventurer license was printed. Kazien held it proudly, like a child receiving a perfect score on an exam.

"Rosalia," he suddenly asked, "can I take C-rank missions?"

"No, Young Master. Only F and G ranks."

Kazien deflated like a sad balloon. But rules were rules—so he walked over to the board and found something that sparked his interest: ~Goblin Slaying – Rank G~

"Perfect for beginners!"

He accepted the quest and started to walk back towards Rosalia, but then paused.

"How old are you, Rosalia?"

"Seventeen."

"Do you have a lover?"

"No…"

"Younger brother?"

"All sisters."

Kazien looked at her with pure disappointment.

"Such a waste. With a face like that, if you were a boy, you'd be super cute."

Rosalia almost choked.

A noble boy just said that. A noble boy.

A boy… said that.

A BOY!

Kazien waved casually.

"I'll introduce you to someone later. Bye!"

Introduce… who?! She stood frozen, deeply questioning her existence.

At the city gate, two soldiers saluted him. "Where are you going, Young Master?"

"To the forest to hunt goblins! See you!"

He dashed off.

Goblins were individually weak, rarely forming groups unless…

Unless someone was leading them.

Like a goblin general. Big, ugly, bulky, and smelling like rotten mushrooms. If that actually exists, I will cry.

He ventured deeper until suddenly—

"… Where am I?"

He looked around.

....

He was standing in a wide meadow.

Yep. Definitely lost. Oh, great job, Kazien. First day as an adventurer and you're lost before finding a single goblin!

He lightly slapped his cheeks.

Focus! Use detection magic, stupid!

He activated the spell—and immediately sensed a rapidly fading presence nearby.

Someone is dying?! Now?! On my first mission?! Are you kidding me?!

He sprinted forward, branches whipping his face, the ground uneven, his lungs burning, but he kept running.

Don't die, whoever you are! I didn't come here to witness tragedy!

Finally, he arrived and froze.

An injured high elf.

A very cute high elf.

Bleeding, bruised, and faintly conscious.

"Oh, come on! Why is this cute high elf dying here?!"

He knelt and quickly focused his healing magic, pouring his energy into the spell. Moments later, the wounds closed, the bruises faded, and the elf's breathing stabilized.

Then the elf passed out again.

Kazien stared.

"You're healed but still unconscious? Seriously?"

He checked his breathing—fine.

Checked his pulse—steady.

Checked his heartbeat—normal.

"You're alive. Good. Now WAKE UP!"

He shook him gently. No reaction.

"… Forgive me."

Slap!

"OUCH! I-It hurts! Who—?!"

The high elf bolted upright, startled.

"HU-HU-HUMAN?!"

Kazien flicked his forehead.

Snap!

"Ouch! Why?!"

"Why? BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T WAKE UP! I even healed you! Show some gratitude!"

The high elf rubbed his forehead with teary eyes.

but what was on Kazien's mind:He's so cute…

Kazien cleared his throat. "Your name?"

"I… I am Alvine Dass'el Latress if I become a woman… or Alvin Dass'el Latress if I become a man. A High Elf…"

High Elf? Rare. Exotic. Beautiful.

Kazien's eyes sparkled.

"No wonder your hair is so golden! I'm Kazien Altavis. Nice to meet you, Alvin!"

Alvin blinked at Kazien's cheerful introduction, still sitting on the grass with leaves tangled in his golden hair. His expression was a confused mix of disbelief and the faint trauma of being slapped awake.

"K-Kazien… Altavis?" he repeated softly.

"Yes! The one and only!"

Kazien placed his hands on his hips proudly. Alvin tilted his head, studying him carefully.

Kazien looked like a noble—a very handsome noble—but his voice and demeanor did not match the image of a dignified young master at all.

Alvin stared at him.

Kazien crossed his arms.

"Alright, Alvin. Now that you're healed, stand up."

"O-Okay."

Alvin tried—but his legs trembled, and he fell forward. And Kazien caught him.

Their faces were suddenly very, very close.

"…!"

"Hmm," Kazien said, completely unaffected. "You're still weak."

Alvin's face instantly turned bright red.

Kazien lifted him horizontally like carrying a princess.

Alvin shrieked, "W-WAIT!! Why are you carrying me like THIS?!"

"This is standard procedure for transporting cute injured people."

"T-That's not a real procedure!!"

"It is now!"

"K-Kazien, I can walk!"

"No, you can't."

"Yes, I can!!"

"You fell like a sack of potatoes two seconds ago."

Alvin fell silent, because he knew it was true.

"… Still embarrassing," he muttered.

Kazien smirked.

"You being embarrassed is cute too."

"S-STOP!"

As Kazien walked through the forest carrying him, Alvin asked quietly. "Kazien… why did you save me?"

Kazien blinked.

"Why? Because you were dying!"

"But… I'm a High Elf. Humans don't usually—"

"That's stupid! Dying people should be saved regardless of race."

Alvin fell silent, stunned by the simple conviction in his voice. Then Kazien added casually: "Also, if someone as cute as you died right in front of me, I'd be depressed for a month."

"YOU DON'T HAVE TO ADD THAT PART!!"

Kazien grinned. "But it's true."

Alvin hid his face again. His ears glowed even brighter.

Kazien chuckled.

"Seriously… what were you going to do without me, Alvin?"

"… Probably die," Alvin muttered honestly.

"See? That's why you need me."

Halfway through the forest, Alvin finally spoke,

"Kazien… where are we going?"

Kazien froze.

"… I don't know."

Alvin's soul left his body. "You healed me. You lectured me. I Following you. And you DON'T KNOW WHERE WE'RE GOING?!"

Kazien nodded proudly.

"Correct!"

"KAZIEN!!!"

"Don't worry! I'm sure we'll find the city eventually."

"How?"

Kazien puffed out his chest. "With luck!" He said proudly.

"… We are so doomed."
