Chapter 2 - system

"What the fuck…?"

Duhyun muttered under his breath as a translucent blue screen flickered into existence before his eyes.

[SYSTEM ONLINE]

The classroom felt unreal. Chalk tapped rhythmically against the blackboard. Sunlight poured through the windows. Everything was exactly the same as before his death.

No—before his first death.

His chest tightened.

Then the screen shifted.

[PICK A CLASS]

Warrior

A class that focuses on martial combat, physical strength, and weapon mastery. Excels in close combat.

Mage

A long-range or support class. High offensive power but extremely low physical defense.

Duhyun didn't even consider the second option.

"…Warrior."

Magic wouldn't save him if he couldn't survive a single hit.

[CLASS CONFIRMED: WARRIOR]

The blue interface pulsed.

[PICK MAIN TRAIT]

Endure

Sword Genius

Mana Capacity

God's Will

Battle Instinct

Bloodline Awakening

Duhyun's eyes stopped on one option.

Sword Genius.

If monsters were real… then he needed a blade. Something reliable. Something lethal.

"Sword Genius," he whispered.

[Trait Selected: SWORD GENIUS]

The screen vanished just as a sharp voice cut through the air.

"Na Duhyun! What are you doing?!"

Duhyun flinched.

The teacher stared at him with visible irritation. "If you're going to sleep, do it at home."

"S-sorry," Duhyun said, standing quickly.

A few students laughed. He ignored them. His hands were trembling—not from fear, but from adrenaline.

The bell rang moments later.

---

The hallway filled with noise as students poured out. Duhyun spotted Ji-eun standing near the lockers, phone in hand. Same place. Same timing.

His phone buzzed.

Ji-eun: Can we talk after class?

Before the familiar pain could settle in, the system appeared again.

[NEW QUEST]

Break up with Ji-eun.

Reward: +6 Strength

Failure: Unknown

Duhyun clenched his jaw.

So this was the turning point.

He walked up to her before she could say anything.

"Ji-eun."

She looked up, startled. "Oh—Duhyun, I was just about to—"

"We should end this," he said.

The words came out calm. Controlled.

Her eyes widened. Guilt flickered across her face before she looked away.

"…I see," she said quietly. "Okay."

She didn't argue.

That alone told him everything.

[QUEST COMPLETED]

[You Gain +6 Strength]

The blue screen expanded.

Duhyun stared at the numbers.

"…This is real."

Not impressive. Not heroic.

But it was a start.

"So if I clear quests… I get stronger," he murmured. "I can actually change things."

The screen flickered once more.

[SYSTEM]

No explanation.

Just those three words.

Duhyun's blood ran cold.

"…Guess there's no turning back now."
