Chapter 15 - I Never Liked You

Date:02/02/2009

Location: Secure location under Stark industries

The science was there but the logic wasn't. The entirety of the research lab had been working for 3 months on this secret project . a project based on the very thing tony stark used to escape a terrorist group. A marvel of mechanical engineering that none of them were currently able to replicate.

The man had made his with scrapes and hope. But they, on the other hand, have yet to figure out how he managed to get the damn thing to fly over fifty kilometres and land semi safely. It was ludicrous to think they would figure it out when they couldn't even see the device in person. The thing weighed more than forty pounds and the electronics killed a battery every 3 steps. They were stagnant till more research could be given on Mr. Stark's first suit.

Yes, first. The man was currently making his third suit with the brief assistance of his brother. We only knew about it thanks to some military footage caught of it ,on the way back from Gulmira. It was smaller now but the original concept was still there. A semi robotic suit with mounted weapons on the shoulders. The difference was now it could actually fly and was very… flamboyant.

Finally though , we were near completion , only needing a miniature reactor that Mr. Stane would provide the blue prints for. It was the final hurdle before we could achieve the ingenuity of Stark . We had it connected to the systems , running operations and seeing the robotic movements of the mecha. The pilot tester went through the diagnostics inside the cockpit, relaying the readings with position.

The suit was currently simulating a walking cycle. The metal refracting the overhead fluorescent lights. Each step sounded the whirring of motors and perfectly greased gears. Though suddenly, the walking stopped, the mech standing at attention.

"Is the walk cycle finished?" I asked , confusion written all over my face .

The technician hands gilded over the keyboard, his own face equally confused. " no, Dr. Montgomery. The operation cancelled the rendering." In the cockpit, the pilot asked for updates, a slight uneasiness falling over the group of us.

In that same moment, the entire mech shut down, the power seemingly drained.

" Was it an energy surge?" Another tech muttered , his screen switching between diagnostics. Of course, that has to be it, this hadn't happened before. The power usage was always a problem. We should have just waited for the arc schematics from Mr.Stane.

The mech's power light immediately turned back on, its head turning towards us. The pilot's comms no longer online.

"Donaldson is that you?" I asked as the mech turned towards us. The glowing eyes seemed locked onto me ,The pilot still none responsive .

"Donaldson, stop. Don't come any closer," the mech immediately striped towards us, the clanks of the metal on cement ringing like a death toll. A few that were in its way nearly got crushed , only to be shoved aside. What the hell is happening? I stood in fear, my colleagues standing in fright beside me .The shadow of the near 13 feet mech looming over us.

Location: malibu mansion, Matthew's room

An ominous chuckle could be heard by anyone who passed the door of the younger stark. Most would think he was simply playing warcraft or something similar as he was prone to laughing diabolically when he's about destroying something. Which in itself is funny to think that the guy that preaches pacifist mantras would gleefully destroy digital enemies with cold efficiency. He was staring at his screen, the live footage of the lab in full view.

"Jarvis , dismantle the operating system too. It should put them back at least another month." his hands were moving almost as fast as his thought process.

Did Matthew hack into the computers the lab was using ?

 yes.

Did he shut off and reboot the iron monger just now?

Also yes.

Why did he do that ? you might be asking . just a bit of sabotage.

The song Crack A Bottle by Eminem, Dr. Dre, & 50 Cent was the background to this harmless act. Harmless being that no one was killed in the making of this mechanical error, keyword, no one was killed, doesn't mean no one was injured. He's against killing, not hurting. Anyone that's in that room to begin with would deserve a few broken limbs.

This wasn't the first time he'd delayed a few of Stane's little improvements to his mech. Heck, just last month, he had delayed a shipment of copper wires that were supposed to be used in the very power system he was currently hacking into.

The more he observed, the more he wanted to tell Tony, and now he had some more proof. Knowing Tony, he wouldn't believe him unless he had definite proof. Not that he wouldn't believe him, it's more he would group it with Matthew's constant dislike of anything Stane did. He never liked the man, even as a child, even younger than that, he would cry if left alone with him for more than 10 minutes. It was like the man carried some sort of repellent that only Matthew had ever smelt. Like some instinct programmed into his brilliant brain.

On screen , the mech walked straight into the control set up, sparks from the pulled apart cables and advanced motherboards were scattering the impact zone. Some of the techs and notably , Dr. Montgomery , had fainted at what would have been imminent death if collided head on.

Matthew would never admit it, but he did like violence, just not the act of killing. Which is strange but to each their own. He had done something similar before, just with a human and not a mech. He was indeed a grade 'A' rage bait, Drill Sergeant Thomas was one of his few victims. Off the record, he had lured the man away to an isolated area. Earlier that day he had overheard Thomas telling an older recruit that he'd be better off dead than in the hospitality of his brigade. Then proceed to dismiss that same recruit that later died due to his negligence in a drill.

Matthew doesn't like bullies.

He had two options:

One was to report Thomas for his earlier acknowledgment that he would indeed rather the recruit be booted.

Or

Stay silent and accept that Drill sergeants are supposed to be absolute assholes and heartless human beings.

He chose option three.

He chose violence. Even reporting him after anyway and admitting to what he did to the hospitalized Sergeant.

Matthew doesn't like bullies.

He never liked Stane.
