POV - Maria Stark
Surprisingly , he came out healthy. They said with my age, I shouldn't get my hopes up,but he was as perfect as he could possibly be.
All ten toes and fingers. The brightest little blue eyes. Little yawns that made his little nose crinkle up in just the most heartfelt way. He was so adorable.
"Maria, don't cry again please." my husband said , bringing his negativity in my adorable little bubble of happiness. He stood, leaned up against the door, just at the threshold of the nursery to the hall.
"You're not welcomed here." I had put my foot down, after the fight between him and our son this morning, I had banned him from the nursery till further notice. A punishment he seems to think was just me having a laugh and wasn't to be taken seriously. Maybe I should have made a sign because he seemed to have not heard me , still daring to walk in like he owned the place.
"Stop being childish, it was a simple disagreement. "
I scoffed.
Me? Childish? Am I the one yelling at a 17 year old about doing something with his life after he just graduated M.I.T. ? I don't think so.
"Howard , he is a child and you're arguing about him needing to 'find a path in life'. You do remember that you were in your 30s when you decided to become who you are today, right? These things take time, you don't just wake up one day and decide to be someone. "
It was exasperating.
He sighed and gave in, like he always does. He knows he's not gonna win the argument, not with me being the opponent.
"But I didn't do nothing before then, he just locks himself up in his lab, wasting his time."
He sits next to me with a sigh of exhaustion that I'm not entirely sure is just due to Tony's self isolation and occasional frugality.
He's been working late recently. Some new project . Top secret or whatever, so he never tells me what it is- but knowing our government, it's nothing good.
" Then , when he's not in his lab, he's partying with lowlife rich kids and making a bad name for…"
I raised a brow , waiting for him to realize the similarities between the both of them .
"It's not the same." he defended at my look.
"Oh it's not?" I mocked , cause it so was.
If you were to look up the definition of man-whore, narcissist and authoritarian , you'd realize that all of them are on the same page, cause this shit's face takes up an entire two pages and no one wants to waste their ink.
" It's not."
I hummed , not agreeing in the slightest, and turned my attention back to the only man in his house that doesn't grate my nerves with their frankly poor choices.
" I hadn't met you yet, or even thought I would make it past 30 with the way things were going."
I still hummed causing him to sigh. I still remember the many-many- women that sent death threats when I first started publicly dating this fool I call husband. Heck, I'm still being told that he has children with random women, though I don't believe them either.
" I'm very happy I found you though."
"Yes- yes and?"
" I couldn't bear to be without you?"
"Are you asking or telling me?"
Does he know I'm baiting him?
Maybe but I don't really care.
It's worked for almost 21 years ,so why change good ole reliable?
He wrapped his arms around me and peppered my shoulder with kisses while saying.
"Please, love of my life. Believe this foolish man's words."
" Okay, okay stop, yes I believe you. " I laughed at his attempt to wipe that sceptical look on my face then, his eyes locked on mine. I couldn't help but smile. We look so old , feel so old, but yet, our relationship hasn't changed a bit.
The intimate moment was interrupted by a soft babble. Turning to the source , Matthew had woken up again and was staring intently in our direction.
The child always seemed so intelligent, he's only been alive for a few hours yet he seems more like he's aware of more than he'll ever interrupt.
I just hope he'll never have to deal with these two and their childishness. I can already see it not stopping any time soon.
I placed him down gently into his crib, this quiet baby of mine so at peace with his surroundings that he doesn't even cry . I wish he'll never change, never end up distancing himself like those two when he can't find the words to say. It was a rather boring wish but in this family , filled with those that feel but never seemed to wanna share how they feel, I want at least one person with EQ , just one. And I'll be satisfied .
Who am I kidding? Making a wish With my luck, this wish would probably cause the opposite to happen.
I shook my head and sighed .
