"You are right," I hear, as I try to open my eyes.
I am blinded by a bright golden light. My ears are ringing, my throat is dry, and my lips are cracking because of the heat coming from the light. I try to speak, but I can only mumble nonsense.
"Huh? ...Wha? ...Where...?"
"Hmm? Is it too bright? Let me tone it down," I hear the voice say.
The light gets dimmer. My eyes finally open. I try to look around from the floor, but I can't see anything.
"I'm up here," someone says.
I try to stand up, but my legs are shaking. I almost get up, but I fall back onto my knees.
"That's enough. I know you just died. I'm not going to force you to have proper manners."
The voice continues. The light is duller now, but it still hurts my eyes.
I died? Oh yeah, I remember. I slip—
Before I can finish thinking, the voice continues. "I mean, you did die because of my mistake, so yeah, I wouldn't want to make you feel worse by asking for politeness."
—ped? Wait, what?
"I DIED BECAUSE OF YOUR MISTAKE?!" I scream. The words come out of my mouth before I even realize it.
The light finally fades enough for me to see the person talking. It is an androgynous figure with blonde hair and light skin. It is wearing a white robe and sitting on a throne with its legs crossed. The throne is up high on some stairs. The floor looks like marble.
Behind the throne, there are floating islands. One has a gate with flashing light, and another is a garden with a table and chairs.
"Woah, man, calm down. It ain't that serious," the figure says, sitting up straight. "I was just checking my new wind powers and ended up hitting you by accident."
It finishes talking and points a finger. A small wind starts to form.
"Wha—WHAT!" That is the only thing I can think of.
"Bro, calm down. Isn't that what you were going to do anyway? Or did you get scared at the last second?" the figure asks playfully.
"I wasn't going to kill myself! I was just sitting there!" I say, still struggling to balance on my knees.
"Yeah, you just happened to sit on the edge of a five-story building," it says mockingly.
"But still," the thing—God? Deity?—continues, "even though it was my mistake, I will make a deal. I'll let you be reborn in a different world."
It stops talking, expecting me to say thank you or praise it.
'Bitch' "No!" I shout back. My thoughts and words are mixing together.
"I do not want to be reborn into another world. I ain't no hero or protagonist. It was your mistake! Fix it!"
"Well," the deity says.
"First of all..."
SFX - WOOSH
The deity moves from sitting on the throne to floating right in front of me instantly.
"Respect. I am basically a GOD to you, so treat me with respect," it says angrily.
It uses some kind of scary pressure that crushes my body. Breathing becomes hard. My body tenses up, and then suddenly, the pressure disappears.
"Still, I will let it go. No need for a being like me to waste power on a small creature," the deity says.
It gives me a hand to help me stand. As I get my balance, it takes its hand back and turns around to face the throne. "Even if I wanted to send you back to your planet, it's impossible. Your body has already been burned."
Hearing that, my heart hurts. I try to imagine how my family felt after I died.
"What happened to my family?" I ask, hoping that at least they lived peacefully.
"Your family?" The deity smirks, trying to hide a smile. "They are all dead."
"Wha—" I mumble without realizing. How did that happen? They were okay before I died.
"Because of your death, your father felt responsible. He had a heart attack and died."
No... I didn't mean for that... My thoughts are racing. My legs are shaking. Breathing is getting harder every second.
"Because of losing both her son and husband, your mother went mad and was put into a mental hospital,"
the deity says, still looking at the throne.
"Since there was no other option, your sister had to get multiple jobs. She died from working too hard."
The deity struggles to hide a smile and opens its arms to look cool. "After her death, your mother became even crazier and had to be put down."
The deity stops.
"She had to be what?" I ask, barely standing.
"Yes, it was so unfortunate. She tried her best to fight back, but she died like a do—"
Before it can finish the sentence, I grab its shoulder and forcefully turn it around. I punch it in the jaw with all my power.
SFX - WHACK
"What did you say?!" I scream. I jump on top of it and punch it again and again. "How dare you say that shit about my mother!"
SFX - WHACK
SFX - WHACK
SFX - WHACK
SFX - WHACK
"You okay there, bud?" I hear someone say from behind me.
I slow down my punches.
"Seems like you are just punching the floor for no reason."
I turn around. The deity is sitting on its throne. My body is now facing nothing.
"How?" I ask, looking at the broken floor and my bloody hands. I try to turn around, but then...
SFX - WOOSH
An invisible force pushes me from above, way stronger than before. My whole body is flattened on the ground.
"You know," the deity sighs. "I tried to give you something thousands of people ask for every day." It sounds disappointed. "I had hope—"
I interrupt him. "Well, I ain't no hermit or shit!" I say, in pain because of the force. "I got friends, family, and all that!"
"You don't got them now, do you?" The deity squats down. It picks up my head. "Where's your family now, huh?"
It smashes my head into the ground.
SFX - THUMP
It stands up and turns around. "Never interrupt my sente-."
"Seems... like... someone got... memory issues," I say, stopping it from finishing its sentence again.
"Didn't you... tell me... they died?"
I am almost unconscious because I can't breathe.
"I did." The deity turns around to show a face full of crazy anger. "You wanna know how they died, though?"
"You also told me that," I answer easily. Suddenly, I can breathe and move a little.
"I did, but only half," it says.
"Your father did die from a heart attack, but he died in a jail cell. You wanna know why?"
'What? Why inside a jail—'
"Cell? That's what you were going to think, right?" The deity says with a scary smile.
"Well, let me tell you. Your death was ruled as a suicide caused by domestic abuse. This caused your father to be jailed. The whole neighborhood called him a child killer. His own child killer. That's what gave him the heart attack." The deity laughs. "You know the funniest part? I was the officer on duty when he died. If I wanted, I could have saved him."
Hearing that, my heart breaks into a million pieces. Before I can say anything, the force comes back, pinning me down. I can't show any emotion except through my crying eyes.
"Now, your sister. You know, she didn't die of overwork. She only became unconscious. She died because of the guy who found her. She was kidnapped, to****ed, ra**d, and killed three days later. And like your father's death, I was there. Watching."
It continues, showing no guilt, only excitement.
SFX - MMGHH! (I try to speak but I can't)
"Now, your mother," it says, looking into my eyes. I try to look away, moving my eyes left and right.
"Aww, is someone sad? Or maybe angry? Do you want to punch someone again? Well, too bad, because you have to listen."
"Your mother was put into the asylum forcefully. She was experimented on. When the asylum people were done, they tried to put her down like a dog, but she escaped. She met her death by being hit by a car. And I was the one driving it."
The deity picks up my head again. Seeing my bloody eyes, it says, "Now you must be wondering why I did that... well, I felt bored."
SFX - CRACK
It smashes my head again, even harder this time. Cracks appear all over the floor. It stands up and turns around.
"Originally, I wanted to make you a hero. I wanted to give you a perfect sad backstory. You would have been transported to a castle with beautiful women throwing themselves at you at one command. You could have had everything if only you controlled your anger better. But it was a good thing I prepared a backup. Now, instead of being The Hero, you will become the Anti-Hero or The Villain."
It waves its hand. The ground breaks, and I start to fall.
As I fall, our eyes meet for the last time.
