"So you're saying your not from this world?" queried the green little creature in a cloak before gobbling the roasted fish skewered on a stick dangling in his fingers and helping it go down with a bottle of booze in his other hand.
"If I were you, Troll" replied the man with a scar across his face, buck naked and sitting across the fire, "I guess I wouldn't exactly believe me either."
"For the last time, I'm a goblin."
"What's the difference?"
"And... I believe you, by the way."
"You do?"
"Your garments certainly are weird," the goblin gazed at the clothes laid down near the flame.
"It's admired where I come from."
"And your shoes... They seem to be made from some sort of strange material."
"Leather" the man looked to his pair of footwear among his fabrics, "You don't have that here?"
"No," the goblin wagged his head,"I know leather when I see it and that's not leather."
The man laughed, sighed... then laughed, "Please tell me your joking."
Again, the goblin wagged his head.
"Anyway," the man blurted "Don't tell me you knew I'm from another world just from my clothes?"
The little green creature took another bite of his food and gulp from his bottle, and then he spoke "Eat up and rest. I'll show something tomorrow."
The man did as he was told- he ate his fill and slept that night under the stars near the lake.
But somewhere in his slumber, a gunshot tore through the silence. He awoke falling—above him, a plane had just exploded, its burning pieces raining down. Some fell faster than him; others drifted beside him. And then, like all of them, he crashed into the sea and slowly sank into the dark.
"Wake up!" echoed in the water. "Wake up!"
"Raaah!" the man roared as he arose. Drenched in his sweat "What happened!?" he asked gasping for his breath.
"I'm supposed to be asking that question." said the goblin standing beside him. "Put on some clothes."
The stars began to fade, giving way to morning light. The man buttoned his shirt, tightened his black necktie, folded the collar of his red tux, and draped his overcoat over his shoulders meanwhile, the goblin stood by the water staring into the distant. "You said you were gonna show me something." the man said as he stepped beside the goblin.
"I am."
"So what is it?"
"We have to wait for the sun to rise over the mountains."
"Why didn't you just wake me up when it did?"
"I was gonna do that... then you woke me up."
"I don't remember snoring."
"I could bare with a night of snores, but not with moans."
"I don't moan."
"You did. You were moaning like a girl."
"I'm gonna throw you in the lake."
"Had a nightmare?"
The man paused, "... Something like that."
The birds flew, the dew drops on the grass shone like crystals, the sun was peeking behind the mountain range, and its rays were already at the man and goblin's feet.
"We've been standing here for a while," the man spoke "...and we never even though of sitting down."
"I know... the view is mesmerizing."
The man nodded.
"How were you able to tell that your not from this world?"
"You," he looked down at the goblin, "you certainly don't exist where I come from."
"And?"
The man lifted his eyes up to the sky,
"The night seemed longer."
"How can you tell?"
"I usually sleep nine hours or ten and this is my first time in three years waking up without the sun bothering me."
"You sure it's not just your dream?"
"Even something like that can't keep me from getting back to my nap. As long as I've had enough rest anyway."
"You said you drowned," the goblin stared deep into the waters, "Then, you were suddenly here."
"You said you pulled me out of the water when I was unconscious."
"There's a time of day when this lake turns so clear, you wouldn't even notice the water's there at first glance," the goblin explained, watching as the surface began to vanish under the growing light.
The man's eyes widened slightly, following the sight of the lake as its shadowed depths gave way to a glasslike transparency. "What exactly are you trying to show me?"
Somewhere in the middle of the lake as the sun rose higher, a black mark started to reveal.
"I thought it's ridiculous when I think about it," the goblin spoke, "But it wasn't impossible either."
The sun finally stood above the mountain range, its light spreading across the waters, and underneath it all was a wide black circle with strange symbols embedded into the lake floor.
