Chapter 39 - Salon

Time quickly advanced to July 15th. Today, for Fulen, was no longer peaceful; or rather, it at least broke his routine of home, shop, and library that he had maintained for the past few days.

Fulen still hoped for an extraordinary life, but in this world, extraordinary meant danger, and danger was undoubtedly a nightmare for Fulen, who currently lacked strength.

Of course, Fulen was not without gains; quite the opposite. Although Fulen spent most of his time reading new books these days, it did not mean he did nothing else.

After a long period of reading, Fulen could feel that the potion he had consumed showed some signs of digestion. Although there were no fragmented stars inside his body, nor did he feel a large-scale digestion, Fulen could still occasionally feel the liveliness of his spirituality.

In contrast, Fulen had finished the voluminous "A Brief History of Ancient and Modern Philosophy." Additionally, Fulen had roughly skimmed through the astrology notes left by Martin, forming an initial impression. Furthermore, Fulen had read all the magic-related books on the sixth floor of the library.

As Fulen expected, the magic books in the library were merely verbose and impractical. They didn't delve into specific content but extensively elaborated on irrelevant details. Although Fulen didn't want to read those books, his current job was reading, and since he had set a plan, he could only grit his teeth and continue.

That's right, Fulen believed his current job was reading. Reading, for Fulen, should have been enjoyable, but reading only every day truly turned into work, and unpaid work at that. However, his gradually active spirituality reminded Fulen that what he was doing was not meaningless.

Besides being holed up in the library, Fulen also took some time to watch a magic show by the Circus. It was hard to imagine that magic shows in both worlds were surprisingly consistent, and surprisingly old-fashioned, all the familiar magic tricks. Although Fulen himself couldn't understand the secrets of the magic, Fulen still had to say that he was really tired of those tricks.

So, in his study, holding a cup of coffee that he had finally managed to brew to an acceptable standard, Fulen picked up the newspaper beside him, ready to begin his new day.

Fulen had taken some time these past few days to glance at coffee books, but out of disinterest and merely wanting to know how to brew coffee practically, Fulen simply averaged the brewing ratios for all types of coffee, concluding that the water-to-powder ratio should roughly be maintained at 15:1.

Although it might not be the most suitable ratio for this type of coffee, Fulen did not pursue brewing the most perfect coffee. While Fulen respected food and enjoyed gourmet meals, he was unwilling to be overly fastidious in these areas. As a mere mortal, Fulen simply could not dedicate his already limited attention to brewing coffee perfectly.

Taking a sip of the fragrant coffee, Fulen read the newspaper, feeling as if he was now qualified to play the male lead in a British drama. As long as one ignored his appearance, Fulen felt he already possessed that leisurely coffee-drinking vibe, not to mention having a newspaper by his side.

As for why it wasn't the leisurely feeling of tea-tasting from ancient times, Fulen glanced at his suit-like clothes, which clearly had nothing to do with a long robe, and could only say it really didn't look the part.

Flipping through the Trier Commercial Evening News, which he treated as a daily appetizer, Fulen saw news about crystal recovery on the third page. Fulen thought, "Why do things always come in groups? Today I'm attending a philosophy salon, and tomorrow I'll be attending a Beyonder gathering." However, that careless boss hadn't told him when to attend the gathering.

He cursed and stomped his feet at the boss in his mind, then Fulen could only helplessly decide to check the situation tomorrow afternoon. After that, Fulen shifted his attention to another newspaper.

After finishing the Trier Daily, Fulen gained a certain understanding of the current situation and pondered whether it conflicted with him. After concluding that there was no conflict, Fulen got up, preparing to head to the library.

There would be a philosophy salon in the afternoon, but that didn't stop Fulen from studying for a short period before heading to the philosophy salon. After all, life could stop, but learning couldn't stop... Just kidding.

Upon reaching the library, Fulen picked up a book on ancient Feysac grammar and vocabulary and began to read. However, looking at the unfamiliar words filling the pages, he felt a bit worried about what would happen next. So, after much internal deliberation, he finally couldn't resist his curiosity and slammed the book shut on the table.

And so, Fulen began his ample time for internal monologue: "I've used my abilities to investigate Miss Ashley twice these past few days. I can trust this diligent maid. I won't need to test her anymore. Phew, being alone at home is truly troublesome, and it's also my suspicious nature; how about this, I'll read a book about modern salons, so I won't have to worry about how I might be impolite later."

Among the dazzling array of bookshelves on the fourth and fifth floors, Fulen did not find any books specifically introducing salons as a form of gathering. However, in books introducing modern art and various novels written by contemporary people, various salon styles were very common.

After roughly reading two or three descriptions of philosophy salons, whether true or false, Fulen got up and headed towards Trenke Street,

The Scarlet Gold Cafe's appearance was quite distinctive compared to the surrounding cafes and restaurants, or rather, the surrounding restaurants and cafes were all very distinctive. It was different from the previous golden style that Fulen had seen, which, though not overly extravagant, always felt off, and also different from the simple style of the commoner district.

As its name suggests, the Scarlet Gold Cafe is decorated primarily in crimson and gold. While reading religious books, Fulen discovered that crimson, though not the Evernight Goddess's main color, is still a color she favors, and gold is the color favored by the Eternal Blazing Sun. So, for Fulen, although the Scarlet Gold Cafe's decor was very beautiful, it still made Fulen feel a bit awkward.

However, in an instant, Fulen cast this uncomfortable feeling out of his mind. After all, he was not a follower of the two deities; this awkwardness could be left for those believers to experience themselves.

Fulen checked the time; it was around 2:45. Although it wasn't time yet, Fulen thought it was better to arrive early as a sign of respect. This was a habit Fulen had developed since childhood, from school to work, people were always required to be on time or even arrive early. Perhaps it was a good thing, but Fulen didn't know if it conflicted with the habits of people in this world.
