Chapter 91 - The Shattered Mirror of Trust

The shimmering lights of the party had become nothing more than a blurred shadow to Anya. Her phone trembled in her hand. The message from Zain's number—"Come to the rooftop."—felt like an absolute command.

As Anya pushed open the heavy rooftop door, she was greeted by a blast of biting cold air. The silence was absolute, but it wasn't peaceful; it was the oppressive stillness that precedes a devastating storm. Suddenly, two hands emerged from the darkness, locking her in a powerful, suffocating grip from behind.

A smile bloomed on Anya's face. She assumed it was one of Zain's teasing games.

"Mr. Wolf... does your romance never end? Everyone is waiting downstairs..."

But as the grip tightened with brutal force, Anya's heart sank. Zain's scent was always crisp, masculine, and icy; this person reeked of alcohol and a stale, hateful stench. Anya's body turned to stone. She wrenched herself free with a frantic jerk and spun around.

Ruan Jian stood before her, his eyes burning with the same old madness.

"Ruan Jian? How dare you!" Anya's voice vibrated with fury. "How did you get Zain's phone?"

Ruan stepped toward her slowly, like a predator circling a wounded prey. "Anya, are you truly happy with that stone-hearted man? Zain sees you as nothing more than a trophy. But I... I still want you with that same old obsession."

"Shut your mouth!" Anya screamed. "I am Zain Yan's wife!"

Scene 2: The Assault

In a sudden blur of motion, Ruan Jian lunged forward, his breath hot against her face. He ruthlessly tangled his fingers into her short hair, pulling her head back as he leaned into the crook of her neck, inhaling deeply.

"You're still the same, Anya... my Anya."

"Get back! You're an animal!" Anya tried to shove him away, but her back hit the freezing iron railing. There was nowhere to run.

Ruan slammed his hands onto her shoulders, pinning her against the rail. "Zain is a wolf, Anya. He will destroy you. Give me one chance..."

SLAP!

The sound of the strike cracked through the empty terrace. Ruan's head jerked to the side. Anya's eyes were bloodshot with rage. "You aren't even worth the dust on my husband's shoes!"

That slap unleashed the demon within Ruan. His eyes turned murderous. With one hand, he seized both of Anya's wrists, pinning them against the wall above her head. When she tried to kick him, he used his knee to crush her leg against the stone, rendering her completely helpless.

Ruan's face descended toward hers. "If you won't come to me willingly, then I will make you mine by force!"

Anya thrashed her head wildly, tears of desperation streaming down her face. As Ruan's lips neared hers, she squeezed her eyes shut and shrieked with everything she had—"ZAIN!!!"

Scene 3: The Descent of the King

CRASH!

The heavy terrace door was ripped from its hinges. From the shadows emerged a figure whose eyes held the primordial wrath of the God of Death. Zain Yan stood there. But the sight that met him was a deceptive web—to him, it looked as though Anya was wrapped in Ruan's arms.

The blood in Zain's veins turned to liquid fire. He moved with the speed of lightning. He grabbed Ruan's collar from behind, hoisting him into the air like a piece of scrap cloth and hurling him away from Anya.

Before Ruan could even hit the floor, Zain's heavy fist connected with his jaw.

CRACK! The sound of breaking bone echoed in the night. A spray of blood erupted from Ruan's mouth.

Zain didn't stop. He fell upon Ruan like a frenzied beast. He grabbed Ruan's shirt, lifted him off the ground, and slammed him against the wall. A rain of punches decimated Ruan's face. Blood splattered onto the concrete, but the burning jealousy in Zain's eyes only made him more feral.

Scene 4: Broken Wrists and Poisonous Hate

Zain stopped abruptly. He left Ruan slumped in a bloody heap on the floor and turned to Anya. Her disheveled hair and tear-streaked eyes looked like 'evidence' of betrayal to him.

"So, is this your true face?" Zain's voice was so cold it made Anya's soul shiver.

Zain lunged, seizing Anya's wrist in a crushing grip. The force was so immense that the sound of small bones shifting could be heard.

"Ah! Zain... stop! You're hurting me!" Anya screamed in agony.

But Zain was possessed by a demon. He began to drag her down the stairs. As they burst into the party hall, every eye turned to them. Anya was sobbing, her footsteps stumbling, but Zain hauled her along like a common criminal.

Huan Jing and Qian rushed forward. "Boss, stop! Anya's hand is turning blue, let her go!"

Zain halted, his eyes bored into Anya's face. He twisted her wrist even further. "You only see the pain in this wrist? What about the fire you've ignited in my chest?"

Anya's tears fell uncontrollably. "Zain... listen to me... he forced himself on me..."

"Shut up!" Zain roared. "After what I saw with my own eyes, every word out of your mouth is poison."

He shoved through the crowd, dragging her toward the car. Black and blue bruises were already blooming on Anya's wrist, but Zain's heart was far more wounded.

Behind them, Ruan Jian lay on the floor, spitting blood and smiling. His plan had worked. He had forced Zain to wound Anya's body and soul with his own hands.

Scene 5: The Bedroom Confrontation

The car tore through the streets of Shenzhen at a death-defying speed. Upon reaching home, Zain shoved Anya into the bedroom and slammed the door shut, locking it from the inside. The tension in the room was so thick it was hard to breathe.

Anya's tears wouldn't stop. She approached Zain, trying to take his trembling hands in hers.

Anya: "Zain, please listen! What you saw isn't the truth. Ruan Jian framed me, he forced—"

Zain recoiled as if her touch were a searing flame. The hatred in his eyes cut Anya to the core. In a final act of desperation, Anya took Zain's face in her hands and leaned in to kiss him, hoping her silence and vulnerability would make him understand.

But the moment her lips touched his, Zain shoved her back with brutal force. Anya stumbled, crashing hard against the edge of the bed.

Zain: "Enough, Anya! Don't make me hate you more with these pathetic acts. Did you think a kiss would make me forget everything? You can't use your beauty to play me for a fool."

He wrenched his shirt buttons loose, glaring at her with a toxic smirk.

Zain: "The truth is, you carry the same filthy blood I despise. Your uncle murdered my parents, and you... you are murdering my heart. Perhaps this was the plan for both of you—to ruin me."

Anya broke down, sobbing hysterically. "Zain, I love you! Please believe me..."

Zain leaned down, his face inches from hers, and uttered words that chilled her very marrow. Her tears were soaking into his shirt, but his heart had turned to permafrost. He looked at her as if she were a 'traitor.'

Zain gripped her chin tightly, staring into her eyes. "These tears won't work on me anymore. Who knows if this is just a new chapter in your and Ruan's plan? You auctioned off your dignity just so you could stay close to me and destroy me."

Anya's heart stopped. She had tried everything to make him understand, but Zain was now branding her as 'characterless.'

Scene 6: The Slap of Defiance

When Zain called her a 'Pawn,' the agony inside Anya suddenly erupted like a volcano. Her sobbing ceased instantly, and a flash of lightning sparked in her eyes.

Before Zain could utter another bitter word, Anya's hand swung through the air. A resounding slap echoed through the room, landing squarely on Zain's cheek.

Silence smothered the room. Zain's head was tilted to the side, Anya's finger marks blooming crimson on his skin. He slowly turned his face back, his eyes filled with a dangerous, heavy silence.

Anya was no longer afraid. She jabbed her finger into Zain's chest, her voice a scream of pure defiance.

Anya: "Enough! That is enough! Do you have any idea how hard I was fighting that monster to save myself? I was begging for my dignity, and you... instead of believing in me, you are degrading me?"

Her voice trembled, but it carried a new, terrifying strength.

Anya: "You truly are a 'Wolf,' Zain Yan! But hear this clearly—I am NOT your 'prey' to be mauled whenever you wish or caged at your whim! If you think I am so fallen, then throw me out of this house right now. But don't you dare ever insult my character again!"

Scene 7: The Shocked Silence

Zain had never seen Anya like this. He stood frozen like a stone statue. More than the sting of the slap, the raw truth in her words pierced him to his core. Anya turned her back on him, pulled a sheet from the wardrobe, and spread it out on the floor.

Anya: (In a voice of cold finality) "Now, get out. I don't even want to look at your face."

Without a single word, Zain turned and walked out of the room. Anya's words played on a loop in his mind— "I am not your prey." For the first time, the 'Wolf' felt the crushing weight of his own defeat.

This was an intense chapter! Would you like me to write the next scene where Zain investigates the phone and realizes his mistake, or perhaps a scene with Ruan Jian plotting his next move?
