The words hung in the Mercedes's interior like smoke. Takeshi stared at Hanae from the passenger seat, his massive frame twisted around to see her better. Reina had gone completely still, karambits forgotten in her lap.
"Boss," Takeshi said carefully. "You know what happens when you make a triad boss lose face. You know what they—"
"They kill everyone involved. Burn down buildings. Salt the earth." Hanae was still looking out the window, watching Tokyo's midnight streets blur past. "I know exactly what they do. I'm counting on it."
"That's not reassuring."
