Chapter 44 - Chapter 44 Return

After confirming through the system that he had already crossed between worlds several times, Qin Xiao realized that the flow of time between the two worlds had completely stopped.

Without hesitation, he chose to return to his original world.

Although the system did not impose any time limit on his return, this world was, at its core, Qin Xiao's base world—his roots.

The longer he stayed in the Marvel world, the harder it became for him to truly belong there. And the longer that continued, the weaker his sense of identity grew. That path was unsustainable.

So Qin Xiao decisively chose to come back.

His vision went dark, his consciousness fading.

When everything gradually came back into focus, he found himself once again in the rented room converted from a garage.

After living in a luxurious Los Angeles apartment, returning to this place inevitably felt uncomfortable.

More importantly, in the other world, he had been an Avenger, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Tony Stark's friend, and a new-generation superhero.

Suddenly returning to a place like this was bound to feel strange.

Fortunately, the system had already prepared everything for him.

Points could be exchanged for wealth, and he still possessed artificial intelligence far beyond this era.

"System," Qin Xiao asked, voicing the question he cared about most, "if I travel through time again, can I do it whenever and wherever I want?"

He had known he could cross worlds, but he had forgotten to ask about the conditions.

"The cooldown period is fifteen days," the system replied in its emotionless voice."To travel again, sufficient spatial energy must be accumulated. The host must remain in this world for fifteen days before initiating the next journey."

Fifteen days was fifteen days.

Time in both worlds remained frozen during the transition, so nothing on the other side would be affected.

Qin Xiao gathered his thoughts, preparing to plan his future in this world.

Suddenly, a rapid knock echoed at the door.

"Hello! Nana Express!"

A loud voice came from outside.

Garage-converted houses usually used cheap aluminum alloy doors, often installed in multiple sections, with two sliding panels serving as the main entrance.

After shouting a few times, the courier knocked again, causing the entire row of aluminum doors to vibrate loudly.

Qin Xiao frowned and walked over to open the door.

He glanced at the folder in the courier's hands—there was no sender's address.

He didn't recognize the name or the phone number.

Opening the folder, he found a beautifully crafted invitation.

The design was creative. When opened, the first thing he saw was a sketch of a wedding photo printed inside.

He didn't know whether it was hand-drawn or digitally made.

Without even checking the names, Qin Xiao recognized them instantly.

It was the very couple who had deceived his predecessor back then.

"Bastards!"

A surge of inexplicable rage flared up inside him.

He was so agitated that he nearly tore the invitation to shreds.

Only when a small hole appeared in the card did Qin Xiao suddenly calm down.

What had just happened?

A bead of cold sweat appeared on his forehead.

Although the memories of the unfortunate former owner of this body were vivid, that man's suffering wasn't truly his.

Qin Xiao was more like an observer. He had indeed intended to avenge him—

But he would never allow himself to lose control like this.

"Is this your final obsession? Or a lingering wish?" Qin Xiao murmured softly, lowering his head."Don't worry, brother. Since we're destined to be together, I've inherited your body and your abilities—so naturally, I've inherited your hatred as well. Those two won't have an easy life."

He wasn't sure whether his explanation was correct, or whether a more scientific explanation was simply that the predecessor's resentment had been etched into the brain.

Either way, after saying those words, the hatred in his heart gradually faded.

"System, exchange 500 points for currency."

Five hundred points could be converted into five hundred million.

Points were still extremely valuable to Qin Xiao—especially with the opening of the second mall on the horizon.

He didn't dare exchange too much at once.

Five hundred million was already an enormous sum.

If it wasn't enough, he could always exchange more later.

In less than a minute, five hundred million was deposited directly into his account.

Fast. Efficient. Secure. Zero errors.

That was the system's promise.

Qin Xiao glanced at the old belongings in the garage but felt no nostalgia.

He strode out decisively.

He wanted to live well—for the Qin Xiao who once existed—but that didn't mean clinging to the past.

He was his own person.

He casually called the landlord, told him he was terminating the lease, and said he wouldn't be leaving anything behind.

He provided his credit card number as the deposit—whether it was refundable didn't matter.

Aside from his phone and ID, Qin Xiao took only the invitation.

The date was ten days later.

The venue: a luxury hotel in Shanghai.

The Magic City—Shanghai—had always been the place Qin Xiao dreamed of when he first started his business.

Back then, he was inseparable from his girlfriend, just as close with his best friend.

The three of them lived in a county near Shanghai, fantasizing that once their project succeeded, they would move into the city and build their future there.

In one of the world's greatest cities, they would realize their dreams and claim a place of their own.

Qin Xiao had poured his heart into creativity and market operations.

Those efforts weren't wasted—the project gained increasing attention.

But who could have imagined that at the very last moment, he would be betrayed by the woman he loved most and the brother he trusted most?

"Heh."

He let out a self-mocking chuckle, unsure whether the emotion belonged to him—or to the lingering soul of the deceased Qin Xiao.

Qin Xiao stepped off the high-speed train.

Watching the endless flow of people on the platform, he didn't rush to leave.

Instead, he calmly lit a cigarette.

For him, taking revenge on that vicious couple would be as easy as lifting a finger.

What truly mattered now was using the resources from the Marvel world to gain a firm foothold here—and grow rapidly.

To step on this city and stand above it.

"Magic City," Qin Xiao muttered with a faint, wicked smile, glancing at the nearby parking sign marked 'Shanghai'."Uncle Qin is here."

"The train is about to depart! If you're still standing beyond the yellow line, you're asking for death! Leave the platform immediately!"

A middle-aged woman in a uniform stood nearby, shouting through a loudspeaker.

"Hey—okay! Sorry! Sorry!"

Qin Xiao tightened his backpack straps, lowered his head, and jogged away.

Author's Note:

Only two chapters today. We're back in the Marvel city again, and I need to think carefully about how to outline the city arc. I'm worried that writing too much will feel boring, but I also don't want to rush things and ruin the experience.

I'll try to keep things concise and interesting. If you have suggestions—like preferring fewer city-building chapters—feel free to leave a comment. I'll adjust accordingly!

Three chapters will be released tomorrow. The first one will be posted in the afternoon.
