Chapter 71 - need. Need. NEED!

Then she smiled.

It was not a nice smile. It was not a sweet smile. It was the kind of smile that made the guards shift uncomfortably. The kind of smile that made every noble on the balconies above lean forward in their seats. The kind of smile that made every single person watching—whether through a wall screen or a pocket crystal—hold their breath simultaneously.

"Okay," Wish said softly. "That's fine. Totally fine."

She set her tea down carefully, deliberately, on the side table. The soft clink of porcelain against stone seemed very loud in the sudden quiet.

Then she stood up from her chair. Slowly. Deliberately.

She stretched—a small, languid, cat-like movement—and then she cracked her knuckles. One by one. Each finger. Slow and deliberate and utterly unhurried.

Crack. Crack. Crack. Crack.

Several nobles on the balconies above actually flinched. Someone in the kitchens let out a strangled noise.
