Epsoide 2: Excited but regretful?
Kenji:
"What?"
Sora suddenly turns toward Kenji, staring at him in surprise. Then she turns to Haruto and whispers into his ear.
Sora:
"When did Kenji get so far away from us? Seriously, you can't even tell the guy is there."
Kenji hears this and snaps back angrily.
Kenji:
"Hey, I heard that!"
(whispering)
"You evil queen."
Sora pouts.
Sora:
"I heard you too, Kenji."
(gritting her teeth)
Ignoring everyone else, Kaito turns to the child.
Kaito:
"So… do you remember anything else? Is being called a 'demon' all you remember?"
He then looks at Haruto.
Kaito:
"Haruto, this kid was definitely a sacrifice. He can't remember properly."
(turning back to the child)
"Ninety percent of the victims go through it during the ritual or right after being rescued. The ones who don't make it are many. They can't survive the fear and trauma."
Haruto rolls his eyes. Kenji does the same. The rookie doctor, meanwhile, watches with fascination from his seat.
The child swallows.
Doctor Mitsuni approaches the child, places a hand on his shoulder, and brings the still-untouched warm milk closer.
Dr. Mitsuni:
"You haven't drunk your milk, test subject."
The child flinches at first, then grins.
The doctor turns to Haruto.
Dr. Mitsuni:
"Haruto, there's no point dragging this out. Just like Kaito said—and from what we've heard—we won't learn anything right now. We should give it time… and raise him here."
Sora smiles at the child.
Sora:
"Yes! This place is fun."
(steps closer to the child)
"Except for Kaito."
Kaito rolls his eyes. The child smiles.
Haruto laughs loudly.
Haruto:
"Welcome to the family! Eeeey!"
He suddenly pauses. Kaito speaks from behind.
Kaito:
"Yuki. His name is Yuki, Haruto."
Haruto smiles.
Haruto:
"Welcome to the family, Yuki."
The child looks surprised, then smiles brightly.
Child:
"Thank you, but I—"
Kaito cuts him off.
Kaito:
"What, you don't like your name?"
Sora shoots Kaito a sharp look.
Child:
"No! Not at all—I really like it!"
At that moment, the door opens. Lady Akira enters, accompanied by her aide Yona, Tatsuya, and Ren.
Kaito leans toward Haruto's ear.
Kaito:
"Well… you're done for now, aren't you, Haruto? Let's see what you'll do. Anyway—adios."
After throwing a sideways glance, Kaito walks off cheerfully toward the training room. Haruto freezes in place.
Lady Akira notices the child but says nothing. Tatsuya immediately rushes over.
Tatsuya:
"Aww, what a cute kid! What's your name? Aaaah, you're adorable!"
Doctor Mitsuni steps in.
Dr. Mitsuni:
"Mr. Tatsuya, welcome. This is Yuki—the family's newest member."
Lady Akira stops walking. Her eyes suddenly lock onto Haruto. Haruto stands frozen, wearing a strained smile.
Haruto:
"A-Ahaha… welcome, Lady Akira—"
Lady cuts him off.
Lady Akira:
"Hunter Number 380… HARUTO AKATSUKI.
MY OFFICE. NOW."
