Chapter 23 - CHAPTER 23: FIRST CONTACT

Day 20 Post-Impact - Morning

The delegation departed at dawn.

Sarnav led a team of eight. Himself, Ishani, Chen Wei, Hafiz, and four other capable fighters. Nisha stayed behind, as planned, overseeing the community in his absence.

The parting had been brief but meaningful.

"Come back safe," she'd said, kissing him firmly.

"Always."

Now they moved through the abandoned suburbs, following the route they'd scouted yesterday. The raider camp lay ahead, a potential obstacle between them and the meeting point.

"We go around," Sarnav decided. "No point starting a fight before the negotiations."

They skirted the raider territory, adding an extra hour to their journey but avoiding detection. By mid-morning, the shopping complex came into view.

Federal Highway Plaza. A skeleton of its former self, windows shattered, parking lot overgrown with weeds. But someone had been maintaining it. Barricades at the entrances. Guards visible on the roof.

"They're already here," Chen Wei observed.

"Good. Let's not keep them waiting."

[APPROACHING NEUTRAL ZONE]

[SUNWAY DELEGATION DETECTED]

[ESTIMATED STRENGTH: 12 INDIVIDUALS, 5 AWAKENED]

[THREAT ASSESSMENT: LOW (DIPLOMATIC CONTEXT)]

They approached openly, hands visible, weapons sheathed. A show of good faith.

A group emerged from the plaza to meet them. Twelve people, as the system had indicated. At their head was a middle-aged Chinese man with a calm, assessing gaze.

"Harmony Sect?" he asked.

"That's us. I'm Sarnav."

"Dr. Lim Wei Shen. I lead the Sunway council." He extended his hand. "Thank you for coming."

Sarnav shook it firmly. "Thank you for reaching out. It's good to know we're not alone out here."

"Indeed. Shall we?" Dr. Lim gestured toward the plaza. "We've prepared a meeting space inside. More comfortable than the parking lot."

They followed the Sunway delegation into the building.

The meeting room had been a food court once.

Tables had been rearranged into a rough conference setup. Someone had even found working lights, powered by a generator humming somewhere in the building.

Both delegations settled on opposite sides of the table. Sarnav took stock of the Sunway representatives while Dr. Lim made introductions.

Most were unremarkable. Survivors, community leaders, the usual mix of skills and backgrounds that had emerged in the post-impact world.

But three caught his attention immediately.

[COMPATIBILITY SCAN INITIATED]

[MULTIPLE HIGH-VALUE TARGETS DETECTED]

The first was Korean. Early twenties, athletic build barely concealed by an oversized gaming hoodie. Her hair was dyed a vivid purple, slightly faded now, and she watched the proceedings with sharp, intelligent eyes.

[PARK MINJI - AGE 22]

[COMPATIBILITY: 91%]

[POWER: VIRTUAL REALITY MANIPULATION (E-RANK)]

[STATUS: AWAKENED, UNATTACHED]

[BOND POTENTIAL: WIFE #5]

The second couldn't have been more different. Pale, slim, dressed entirely in black with tech accessories adorning her wrists and neck. She looked bored, scrolling through a salvaged tablet while the adults talked.

[WONG YUK-KING "JADE" - AGE 25]

[COMPATIBILITY: 89%]

[POWER: DIGITAL MANIPULATION (D-RANK)]

[STATUS: AWAKENED, UNATTACHED]

[BOND POTENTIAL: WIFE #7]

[NOTE: SUBJECT HAS INFORMATION ABOUT CULTIVATION SYSTEMS]

The third was Malaysian Indian, petite with expressive features and the posture of a trained dancer. She sat attentively, her large eyes taking in everything with obvious curiosity.

[ANANYA KRISHNAN - AGE 22]

[COMPATIBILITY: 88%]

[POWER: RHYTHM/PERFORMANCE MAGIC (E-RANK)]

[STATUS: AWAKENED, UNATTACHED]

[BOND POTENTIAL: WIFE #11]

Three compatible women in one place. The system was practically vibrating with excitement.

[HOST. THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE.]

[RECOMMEND: ESTABLISH RAPPORT WITH ALL THREE]

[HAREM NETWORK ACTIVATION: 1 MORE WIFE REQUIRED]

Sarnav kept his expression neutral, but internally he was recalculating everything.

This alliance just became a lot more interesting.

The negotiations proceeded smoothly.

Dr. Lim was reasonable, pragmatic. He wanted cooperation, not domination. Trade routes, shared resources, mutual defense agreements. Standard post-apocalypse alliance stuff.

"We've been isolated since the impact," he explained. "Three hundred survivors, but limited awakened. Maybe forty total, most of them E-rank or below."

"We have similar numbers," Sarnav said. "Though our awakened ratio is slightly higher. And we've been more aggressive about clearing threats."

"So we heard. The nest you destroyed was becoming a serious concern. We'd been tracking its growth, debating whether to attempt an assault ourselves."

"It was manageable. With proper coordination."

"Which is exactly why we reached out." Dr. Lim leaned forward. "Alone, we're vulnerable. Together, we could control this entire sector of KL."

Sarnav nodded slowly. "What are you proposing, specifically?"

"A formal alliance. Shared patrol routes. Combined operations against major threats. Trade between our communities." Dr. Lim paused. "And eventually, perhaps, integration. One unified faction rather than two separate camps."

That was more than Sarnav had expected. Integration meant absorbing Sunway's three hundred into his structure. Tripling his population. Gaining their awakened, their resources, their territory.

And their compatible women.

"That's a significant proposal," he said carefully. "One that would require extensive discussion."

"Of course. We're not asking for an answer today. Just... establishing the possibility."

"The possibility is definitely established." Sarnav glanced at the three women who'd caught his attention. "Perhaps we should take a break. Let people mingle, get to know each other. Alliances work better when there's personal connection, not just political agreement."

Dr. Lim smiled. "Wise approach. I'll have refreshments brought out."

The break gave Sarnav the opportunity he needed.

He made his way through the mingling groups, exchanging pleasantries, building rapport. But his real targets were the three women the system had flagged.

The gamer was first.

She'd wandered to a corner, fiddling with what looked like a handheld gaming device. Somehow, she'd kept it charged through the apocalypse. Dedication.

"That a Switch?" Sarnav asked, approaching.

Her head snapped up, surprised. "You know what this is?"

"I had two before the impact. Lost them both when my apartment collapsed." He gestured at the device. "What are you playing?"

"Nothing right now. Battery's almost dead and I'm rationing." She looked at him with new interest. "You're the leader of Harmony Sect. The one who destroyed the nest."

"Guilty."

"That's pretty badass." She stood, extending her hand. "Park Minji. I was here for an esports tournament when everything went to hell."

"Sarnav. And yeah, worst timing ever for a tournament."

"Tell me about it. I was supposed to compete in the semifinals. Had this whole strategy planned." She laughed, though there was sadness underneath. "Now I'm just trying not to die like everyone else."

"You're awakened though. That's something."

"VR manipulation. Sounds cool, right? Except it's basically useless in combat." She waggled her fingers. "I can create illusions, mess with people's perception. But I can't actually hurt anything."

"Perception manipulation is incredibly valuable. In the right circumstances, it's more dangerous than raw firepower."

She studied him. "You really think so?"

"I know so. I've read enough... seen enough situations where the right illusion at the right moment changed everything."

[PARK MINJI - INTEREST INCREASING]

[NOTE: SUBJECT RESPONDS TO VALIDATION OF HER ABILITIES]

"You're not like other leaders I've met," Minji said. "Most of them just want fighters. Damage dealers. People who can kill things."

"Killing things is easy. Winning without killing is harder. Smarter."

"I like that." She smiled, bright and genuine. "You play any games? Before, I mean."

"Some. RPGs mostly. And the obvious stuff. League, Valorant, some gacha games I'm not proud of."

"Oh my god, a gacha player." She laughed. "How much did you spend?"

"We don't talk about that."

"That bad?"

"Let's just say my bank account was grateful when the world ended."

She laughed again, louder this time. Several people glanced their way.

"I like you," she declared. "You're funny. Most powerful people are boring as hell."

"I try to be entertaining."

"You succeed." She tucked her Switch away. "Hey, if this alliance thing works out, maybe we could play something together. I found a working PS4 at the campus. Just need someone who actually knows how games work."

"I'd like that."

[PARK MINJI - RAPPORT ESTABLISHED]

[ATTRACTION: INITIAL INTEREST DETECTED]

[RECOMMEND: CONTINUED ENGAGEMENT]

One down. Two to go.

The hacker was harder to approach.

She'd claimed a table in the corner, her attention fixed on her tablet, completely ignoring the social dynamics around her. Several people had tried to engage her and been rebuffed with monosyllabic responses.

Sarnav sat down across from her without asking permission.

She didn't look up. "I'm busy."

"With what?"

"None of your business."

"Fair enough." He didn't move. "I'm Sarnav."

"I know who you are." Still not looking up. "The supposed prodigy who went from nothing to C-rank in three weeks. Either you're lying about your timeline, or there's something very unusual about your cultivation method."

That got his attention. "You know about cultivation?"

Finally, she looked up. Her eyes were sharp, assessing, framed by dark circles that spoke of too many sleepless nights.

"I know about a lot of things." She set down the tablet. "Wong Yuk-king. Most people call me Jade."

"Nice to meet you, Jade."

"Is it?" She leaned back, arms crossed. "You've been working the room since the break started. Talked to Dr. Lim's aide, the supply coordinator, the Korean gamer. Now you're here. You're not socializing. You're recruiting."

Sharp. Very sharp.

"Can't it be both?"

"It could be. But it isn't." Her eyes narrowed. "What do you want?"

"Information. You said my cultivation method was unusual. How would you know that?"

"Because I've been studying the awakening phenomenon since day one. Gathering data, analyzing patterns, building models." She tapped her tablet. "Most awakened follow predictable progression curves. You don't. Your power growth is an outlier by several standard deviations."

[WONG YUK-KING "JADE" - ANALYSIS]

[INTELLIGENCE: EXCEPTIONAL]

[KNOWLEDGE BASE: EXTENSIVE]

[NOTE: SUBJECT HAS INDEPENDENTLY RESEARCHED CULTIVATION MECHANICS]

[POTENTIAL VALUE: EXTREMELY HIGH]

"You've been tracking individual awakened?"

"Someone has to understand what's happening. The governments are gone. The scientists are dead or scattered. If we don't figure out the rules of this new world, we're all going to die in it."

"And what have you figured out?"

She studied him for a long moment. Deciding how much to share.

"Enough to know that you're not normal," she said finally. "Your faction's growth, your personal advancement, the way you move through threats that should be beyond your capability. There's a variable I'm not accounting for."

"Maybe I'm just talented."

"Maybe. Or maybe you have a system."

The word hung in the air between them.

"What do you know about systems?" Sarnav asked carefully.

"Enough. I know they exist. I know they're rare. I know they're the reason some awakened advance faster than others." She leaned forward. "I also know that you're not going to confirm or deny anything I just said."

"You're right. I'm not."

"Didn't expect you to." She picked up her tablet again. "But here's the thing. I don't care about your secrets. I care about survival. If you have something that gives you an edge, I want to understand it. Not to take it. To replicate it, or at least account for it in my models."

"And if I said I'd share information with you, under certain conditions?"

"I'd say you're trying to recruit me, which we already established."

"Is that a no?"

She was quiet for a moment. "It's a 'tell me what conditions.'"

"Join my faction. Bring your knowledge, your skills, your analysis. In exchange, I'll answer your questions. Some of them, at least."

"That's a big ask. I don't even know you."

"Then get to know me. Take some time. Decide if I'm worth working with." He stood. "The offer stays open."

He walked away, feeling her eyes on his back.

[WONG YUK-KING "JADE" - STATUS UPDATE]

[INTEREST: INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY PIQUED]

[ATTRACTION: MINIMAL (CURRENTLY)]

[APPROACH: REQUIRES PATIENCE AND DEMONSTRATED VALUE]

[NOTE: SUBJECT IS TSUNDERE ARCHETYPE - RESISTANCE IS EXPECTED]

Two down. One to go.

The dancer found him.

"Excuse me? You're Sarnav, right?"

He turned to find the petite Malaysian Indian woman standing behind him, her hands clasped nervously in front of her.

"That's me."

"I'm Ananya. Ananya Krishnan." She had a slight Penang accent, musical and warm. "I just wanted to say thank you. For destroying that nest. We were so scared it was going to attack us."

"It was a threat to everyone in the area. We did what needed to be done."

"Still. It was brave." She smiled, shy but genuine. "You're Malaysian Indian too, right? I can tell from your name."

"Born and raised in KL."

"I'm from Penang. Was visiting KL for a dance competition when..." She gestured vaguely at the ruined world around them. "You know."

"Dancer?"

"Bharatanatyam, mostly. But I also do contemporary, a little K-pop." She laughed self-consciously. "I know, weird combination."

"Not weird. Versatile."

"That's a nice way to put it." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "My family always said I couldn't decide what I wanted to be. Traditional or modern. Indian or Malaysian or somewhere in between."

"Why choose? Be all of it."

She looked at him with something like wonder. "That's... no one's ever said that before."

"Then everyone else was wrong."

[ANANYA KRISHNAN - RAPPORT ESTABLISHED]

[ATTRACTION: SIGNIFICANT]

[NOTE: SUBJECT RESPONDS TO ACCEPTANCE AND VALIDATION]

[CULTURAL CONNECTION: STRONG (SHARED HERITAGE)]

"Your power," Sarnav said. "Rhythm magic?"

"How did you know?"

"Lucky guess. What can you do with it?"

"I'm not sure yet. It's new. But when I dance, I can feel... something. Like the world moves with me." She demonstrated, a brief flowing gesture that seemed to make the air shimmer. "Dr. Lim says it could be powerful eventually. I just need to learn control."

"He's right. Performance-based abilities are rare and valuable."

"You think so?"

"I know so." He held her gaze. "If you're interested, we have training facilities at our camp. People who could help you develop your skills."

"Really?" Her eyes lit up. "I'd love that. I mean, if it's okay. If the alliance works out."

"I think it will."

She beamed at him, her whole face transforming with happiness. "Thank you, Sarnav. For being so kind."

"It's easy to be kind to good people."

She blushed, looking away. "I should... I should get back. Dr. Lim wanted me to help with something."

"Of course. It was nice meeting you, Ananya."

"You too." She hurried away, glancing back over her shoulder twice before disappearing into the crowd.

[ANANYA KRISHNAN - STATUS UPDATE]

[INTEREST: HIGH]

[ATTRACTION: DEFINITE]

[APPROACH: SWEET AND DIRECT - SUBJECT RESPONDS WELL]

[NOTE: EASIEST POTENTIAL BOND - MINIMAL RESISTANCE EXPECTED]

Three for three. All interested, all compatible, all potentially joinable.

The system was definitely pleased.

[EXCELLENT WORK, HOST]

[THREE HIGH-COMPATIBILITY TARGETS IDENTIFIED AND ENGAGED]

[RECOMMENDED PRIORITY:]

[1. ANANYA KRISHNAN (HIGHEST INTEREST, LOWEST RESISTANCE)]

[2. PARK MINJI (STRONG RAPPORT, SHARED INTERESTS)]

[3. WONG YUK-KING (REQUIRES MORE TIME, HIGHEST POTENTIAL VALUE)]

[REMINDER: HAREM NETWORK ACTIVATES AT 3 WIVES]

[CURRENT: 2/3 - ONE MORE BOND REQUIRED]

The negotiations resumed.

Terms were discussed, details hammered out. By late afternoon, a preliminary agreement had been reached. Shared patrols would begin within the week. Trade routes would be established. Combined operations against the raider camp would be planned.

"There's one more thing," Dr. Lim said as the meeting wound down. "The raiders between our territories. They've been growing bolder. Attacking our scavenger teams, stealing supplies."

"We scouted their position yesterday," Sarnav said. "Thirty-two hostiles, three awakened. Organized but not military."

"You're well-informed."

"Preparation is survival."

"Indeed." Dr. Lim nodded approvingly. "Would Harmony Sect be willing to lead a joint operation? Your combat experience, our numbers. We could eliminate the threat permanently."

Sarnav considered. A joint operation meant more time with the Sunway group. More time with the three women he'd identified. More opportunity to build connections.

"We'd be willing. Say, three days from now? Give both sides time to prepare."

"Agreed." Dr. Lim stood, extending his hand. "I think this is the beginning of a very productive partnership."

"I think so too."

They shook on it.

The journey back was uneventful.

Sarnav's mind raced with possibilities. Three compatible women, an alliance that would triple his faction's size, a joint military operation that would demonstrate his capabilities.

The pieces were falling into place.

"You were busy during the break," Ishani observed, falling into step beside him.

"Networking."

"With three attractive women. I noticed."

"Jealous?"

"Curious." She glanced at him. "Are they compatible?"

"Very."

"All three?"

"All three."

Ishani was quiet for a moment. Then she laughed.

"Of course they are. Your luck is ridiculous."

"It's not luck. It's the system."

"Same thing, sometimes." She took his hand. "So what's the plan?"

"Build rapport. Establish trust. See who joins willingly."

"And the hacker? She looked prickly."

"She is. But she's also brilliant. And she knows more about awakened cultivation than anyone I've met." He squeezed Ishani's hand. "She'll be worth the effort."

"If you say so." Ishani pressed closer. "Just remember, sayang. I was here first. Well, second. But still."

"I remember."

"Good." She smiled. "Now, how about you show me how much you remember when we get back?"

"The whole team is right here."

"So?"

"So we're not having sex in front of Chen Wei."

"Spoilsport."

But she was still smiling, and so was he.

They reached the school by evening.

Nisha was waiting at the gate, worry evident in her face until she saw them approach. Then relief flooded her features.

"You're back. All of you."

"Told you we would be." Sarnav pulled her into a hug. "Miss me?"

"Always." She kissed him briefly. "How did it go?"

"Better than expected. We have an alliance. A joint operation in three days. And..." He paused. "Some interesting new contacts."

"New contacts?" Nisha's eyes narrowed slightly. "What kind of contacts?"

"The compatible kind."

She processed that. Her expression flickered through several emotions before settling on resigned acceptance.

"How many?"

"Three."

"Three?" She pulled back. "Sarnav, that's..."

"A lot. I know. But they're not joining tomorrow. This is long-term. Building connections. Seeing if it works."

"And if it does work? If all three of them join?"

"Then we'll have five bonds. The harem network activates. We become significantly stronger."

Nisha was quiet. Ishani had joined them, standing slightly apart, giving them space.

"I'm trying," Nisha said finally. "I really am. But this is a lot to process."

"I know. And I'm not asking you to be okay with it immediately. Just... keep trying."

"I will." She took a breath. "Tell me about them. These three women who are going to become part of our lives."

So he did. As they walked back to the main building, he described Minji, Jade, and Ananya. Their backgrounds, their powers, their personalities.

By the end, Nisha was nodding slowly.

"The gamer sounds fun," she admitted. "And the dancer is Malaysian Indian like us. The hacker though..."

"Will be a challenge. I know."

"You like challenges."

"I do."

She sighed. "This is really happening, isn't it? You're really going to have... how many wives, eventually?"

"Thirty-two. If everything goes according to plan."

"Thirty-two." She laughed, slightly hysterical. "I fell in love with a man who's going to have thirty-two wives."

"You fell in love with me before either of us knew that."

"I know. And I'm staying. I just..." She shook her head. "I need some time alone. To process. Is that okay?"

"Of course."

She kissed his cheek and walked away, disappearing into the building.

Ishani appeared at his side.

"She's handling it better than I expected," she said.

"She's stronger than people give her credit for."

"Most people are." Ishani took his arm. "So. Three new potential wives, an alliance, a military operation. Busy few days coming up."

"Very busy."

"Then we should get some rest." She smiled. "Or not rest. Your choice."

"Ishani..."

"What? Nisha said she needed time alone. You're not going to spend the night by yourself, are you?"

He shouldn't. He should give Nisha space, let her process, be considerate.

But Ishani was warm against his side, and the day had been long, and sometimes he just needed to feel alive.

"Your room or mine?"

"Mine. The bed's bigger."

Ishani's room was sparse but functional.

She'd claimed it shortly after joining, personalizing it with small touches. A scarf draped over the lamp for softer light. A salvaged mirror on the wall. The faint scent of perfume she'd somehow maintained through the apocalypse.

"I've been thinking about you all day," she said, pushing him toward the bed. "Watching you work the room at that meeting. Seeing you in leader mode."

"That turns you on?"

"Everything about you turns me on." She climbed onto his lap, straddling him. "But competence especially. Watching you handle people, make deals, plan strategy. It makes me want to see what else you can handle."

She kissed him, aggressive and demanding. Her tongue pushed into his mouth, claiming territory, while her hips ground against his growing erection.

"I want to try something," she said when they broke apart.

"What?"

"You know how I mentioned wanting to try anal?"

His cock jumped. "I remember."

"Not tonight. Not yet. But..." She bit her lip. "I want to work up to it. Get used to the idea. Would you be okay with that?"

"More than okay."

She smiled, reaching for something under her pillow. A small bottle of lubricant, salvaged from god knows where.

"I found this. Been saving it."

"You planned this."

"I plan everything." She pressed the bottle into his hand. "Start slow. Let me get used to it."

They undressed each other with familiar ease. Ishani's body was gorgeous in the low light, toned and curved in all the right places. She positioned herself on hands and knees, looking back at him over her shoulder.

"Just fingers tonight. We can do more next time."

"Your pace. Always."

He started with what she already loved. His mouth between her thighs, tongue working her clit while his fingers slid inside her pussy. She moaned, pushing back against him.

"Yes... just like that..."

He worked her up slowly, bringing her close to the edge before backing off. When she was trembling, desperate, he reached for the lubricant.

"Ready?"

"Yes. Please."

He coated his finger, then gently pressed against her other entrance. She tensed instinctively.

"Relax. I've got you."

"I know. It's just... new."

He kept his other hand on her clit, rubbing in slow circles while he applied gentle pressure. Slowly, so slowly, she opened for him.

"Oh." Her voice was surprised. "That's... different."

"Good different or bad different?"

"Good. I think. Keep going."

He pushed deeper, just the first knuckle. She made a sound, half moan, half gasp.

"More?"

"Yes. More."

He gave her more. Worked his finger in and out, letting her adjust to the sensation. All the while, his thumb kept circling her clit, keeping her pleasure high.

"Sarnav..." She was shaking now. "I'm going to come. I'm going to come with your finger in my ass and it's so dirty and I love it..."

"Then come. Let go."

She did. Her orgasm crashed through her, both her entrances clenching around his invading digits. She screamed into the pillow, her whole body convulsing.

He worked her through it, then gently withdrew.

"Fuck," she gasped. "That was..."

"Good?"

"Incredible." She turned over, pulling him on top of her. "Now I need you inside me. The normal way. Hard and fast."

He was happy to oblige.

He thrust into her in one smooth stroke, burying himself to the hilt. She cried out, wrapping her legs around him.

"Yes! Sayang, yes!"

He fucked her hard, just like she wanted. No tenderness, no gentleness. Just raw, primal need. The bed slammed against the wall. Her moans filled the room.

"Harder! Don't hold back!"

He didn't. He pounded into her with everything he had, watching her face twist with pleasure, feeling her nails rake down his back.

"I'm close," she gasped. "Make me come again. Make me—"

She shattered, screaming his name. He followed moments later, spilling inside her with a groan.

They collapsed together, breathing hard, tangled and satisfied.

"That was amazing," Ishani murmured.

"Agreed."

"The anal thing... I want to do more. Next time."

"Whenever you're ready."

She pressed a kiss to his chest. "I love that you're patient with me. That you let me set the pace."

"Your body, your rules."

"I know. But not every man understands that." She looked up at him. "These three new women. If they join. Will you be patient with them too?"

"Of course."

"Good." She settled against him. "Then I can live with sharing you. As long as you treat everyone with respect."

"Always."

They fell asleep tangled together, the weight of the day finally catching up with them.
