Chapter 118: The Beginning Of The Marine Civil Unrest

The room was a frozen tomb. Yuichi had been transformed into a perfectly preserved ice sculpture.

Aokiji stood before him, staring into Yuichi's frozen eyes through the translucent layers. He let out a helpless sigh, whispering, "I'm sorry, Yuichi. This is an order from the highest authority. I am still a Marine, after all..."

As soon as the sentence left his lips, the right side of the ice sculpture flickered.

Crack.

A spiderweb fracture appeared on the surface. Then, a deafening boom rang out. An invisible shockwave of Haki and Reiatsu erupted from within, shattering the ice into fine powder instantly.

Aokiji didn't move, staring at the cloud of freezing mist where Yuichi had been.

ZING!

The sharp resonance of a blade slicing through air screamed out. A terrifying beam of sword light erupted from the smoke, sweeping toward the Admiral.

Aokiji dodged sideways, dematerializing into ice shards.

BOOM!

The slash tore through the building and the street beyond, resulting in a deafening roar that shook the residential district of Marineford. Smoke and fire billowed into the night sky.

Every Marine soldier on the island turned their heads toward the disturbance.

Aokiji reformed his body on the ruined street outside Yuichi's quarters. Marine soldiers, who had evidently been lying in wait, surrounded the area.

"Did Mr. Aokiji fail to catch him?" a soldier whispered.

Aokiji smiled coldly. "Who do you think Yuichi is? Even if he is defenseless, he is strong enough to deal with any attack. If you think I can subdue a monster like that with a sneak attack, you think too highly of me."

The soldiers fell silent. It was true; Yuichi's performance in the World Wars had proven he was in a league of his own.

The dust began to settle. Yuichi's room was gone, the walls obliterated, revealing a path carved by the sword slash. From the thick smoke, the crisp sound of footsteps echoed.

Yuichi walked out slowly, Zanpakutō in hand. His cold eyes scanned the perimeter, taking in the soldiers and Aokiji.

"No wonder I felt the area was unusually lively tonight," Yuichi remarked, his voice calm. "Someone in the Marines is making a move on me."

He didn't need to ask who authorized this. It wasn't Sengoku—he would never. Since Sengoku was away, only one authority could mobilize an Admiral and troops within Headquarters.

The Five Elders.

"Mr. Yuichi," a voice called out. A Marine Vice Admiral, Tian Masao, stepped forward. "You'd better give up resistance and hand over the power of the Tailed Beast to the World Government. This power belongs to the world, not to you as private property. I hope you won't be blinded by greed."

Yuichi felt both annoyed and amused.

"Belongs to the world?" Yuichi scoffed. "If I hadn't captured it, it wouldn't even be here. And handing it to the World Government isn't giving it to the world; it's giving it to the Five Elders as their private weapon. Do you really believe that nonsense?"

"Stop making excuses!" Tian Masao shouted, his face hardening. "Since you won't listen to reason, don't blame us for being ruthless. Attack!"

Instantly, several Rear Admirals rushed out from the crowd, brandishing swords and Haki-coated fists. They attacked from multiple angles, their intent lethal. They had been thoroughly indoctrinated by the World Government's orders.

Yuichi narrowed his eyes. These were minor officers he didn't even recognize. Sending fodder to deal with him? Where were the elite Vice Admirals like Doberman or Onigumo? They had likely found excuses to avoid this dirty work.

But these fools... they were seeking death.

Since they looking for it. I'll give it to them.

As they closed within striking distance, Yuichi raised his hand slowly.

Slash.

The Zanpakutō moved faster than the eye could follow.

The first Rear Admiral found his blade severed, followed immediately by his torso. The sound of tearing flesh sickened the air. Blood sprayed across the pavement.

Simultaneously, the other attackers froze as cut lines appeared on their bodies—shoulders, necks, waists.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

Several bloody corpses hit the ground. Yuichi lowered his sword casually, flicking the blood off the blade. The pungent smell of iron filled the air.

The faces of the surrounding soldiers turned pale. The gap in power was insurmountable. Rear Admirals were slaughtered like flies.

"You bastard!" Tian Masao roared, trembling with rage. "You actually killed them? No matter what you say, you are a Marine! How could you kill your own comrades?"

Yuichi's expression darkened. "So, I should have just stood there and let them kill me? Is that your logic?"

"Kill him! He's a traitor! He's no longer a Marine!"

Bass!!

A blade pierced the air.

Aokiji's pupils contracted. "Yuichi, wait—"

The next second, a gust of wind blew past Tian Masao's neck. The Vice Admiral froze, his eyes wide, staring at the tip of a sword hovering millimeters from his throat. The blade exuded a bone-deep chill.

He swallowed hard.

So fast.
