Chapter 77 - Chapter 77: Killing is Not a Crime

Chapter 77: Killing is Not a Crime

He unleashed a storm of energy that swept towards the Void Silver Mine, carrying a large amount of Void Silver and forming a metallic tornado, hiding within the vein.

Only after the monsters dispersed did he rush back to the passage he had come from, scattering Void Silver dust all over the road.

Back in the mortal world, James Wright once again unleashed an energy storm carrying Void Silver dust towards the Sludge Monster.

The Sludge Monster was blown away and dissipated, but it still reappeared, only at a noticeably slower speed.

The psychics and the Federal Council watching the battle were all searching for the reason.

Finally, a young analyst named Robert Zhang suggested that since the change was caused by Void Silver, could they try to use Void Silver to completely envelop the Sludge Monster?

Upon hearing this, James Wright coated his energy constructs with Void Silver, forming an airtight cage, within which he once again eliminated the Sludge Monster. It did not reappear, but instead left behind a fist-sized lump of sludge.

But as soon as he dispelled the cage, the sludge instantly reverted to the Sludge Monster.

James could only resort to the same tactic again, wrapping the sludge with Void Silver to completely eliminate the Sludge Monster's threat.

Later research revealed that only by sealing it completely with Void Silver could the monster's inescapable regenerative power be blocked. Without the Void Silver barrier, the monster would neither die nor disappear.

The only psychic in the world capable of stopping the monster had only managed to slow it down by a fraction; only power from another dimension could effectively combat it.

The Crossroads participants and Void Silver had thus become of paramount importance!

Marcus looked at the information displayed on the screen in front of him. He hadn't expected the apocalypse to be like this, a supernatural realm where monsters roamed, a point of intersection with reality.

Moreover, this world indeed possessed extraordinary abilities. However, judging from this record, even the most powerful psychics were probably inferior to the Keepers, at least in terms of fighting monsters.

Marcus continued clicking: "Relationship between the Supernatural Realm and Void Silver!"

[According to the latest research from scientific institutions, the intersection of the Supernatural Realm and reality is a manifestation of dimensional fusion. It is estimated that the present world will merge into the Supernatural Realm within seven years at the latest, and three years at the earliest.

Wherever an intersection of the Supernatural Realm and reality exists, a mineral will inevitably be produced within its passage—Void Silver Ore.

This ore can not only suppress and seal away monsters, but also build sanctuaries. As the saying goes, where there is poison, there will be an antidote nearby.

Void Silver is the solution to overcome the apocalyptic crisis.

Therefore, every time an intersection appears, the Void Silver Ore must be secured first to establish a passage barrier in time to prevent monsters from invading the present world, and also to reserve Void Silver for surviving the apocalypse.]

The shock this intelligence gave Marcus today was no less than the shock he felt when he was chosen by the Crossroads.

He thought that fighting within the Crossroads would allow him to recuperate in reality.

However, this intelligence directly showed that reality was not much better than the Crossroads space, and was even more dangerous.

Marcus suppressed the turmoil in his mind and clicked on the last item:

"Void Silver Mine and Enemies!"

[Wherever there is a node, there will be a Void Silver Mine within the passage.

However, each node connects not only Earth, but also two other worlds: Zeta Reticuli and the Spirit Realm.

Each rift node is the simultaneous birth of all three worlds, allowing all three to enter the Wasteland at the same time. However, there is only one Void Silver Mine!

It is predicted that when the worlds merge, the fog and corruption of the Wasteland will sweep across the world. Without Void Silver to establish sanctuaries, ordinary people and animals will surely perish.

To save more people in our world from this calamity, we must fight to the death for a share of the Void Silver Mine. This is a battle for survival; there is no possibility of reconciliation.

It is understood that the Crossroads first appeared in the Spirit Realm in 2110.

Two years later, the three worlds and the Wasteland experienced a fusion node, resulting in an intersection, after which the Crossroads appeared successively on Earth and Zeta Reticuli.]

The Spirit Realm, being an ancient dimension, entered the Crossroads two years earlier, but its knowledge is limited, its population small, and it clashes with many modern storylines. However, its early struggle for mineral veins caused significant casualties on Earth.

The people of Zeta Reticuli possess higher technology and superior genetic abilities, initially surpassing us in physical strength and technology. However, their cultural development differs greatly from many storylines, focusing more on scientific pragmatism and lacking in creative thinking.

Earth, through adversity, accumulated population and cultural diversity, using the sacrifices of our ancestors as stepping stones, eventually catching up, but only by a narrow margin. We must remember our past losses and remain vigilant!

Know this:

We, the people of Earth, having entered the Crossroads, are as if entering a hellish realm.

We must compete with other realms to save our own people.

Remember, killing is for the sake of protecting life; we must not be swayed by sentimentality!

Therefore, among the people of Zeta Reticuli and the Spirit Realm,

no one is beyond killing, no one is beyond slaying!

The United Council of Earth, on behalf of all humanity of Earth, hereby grants a pardon:

Killing is not a crime!

]

Understood, everything is understood!

Marcus finished reading the message, feeling utterly overwhelmed.

He hadn't expected this world to be so dire; beneath the apparent peace and tranquility lay a terrifying, supernatural apocalypse, a battle for life and death, a battle for the survival of the world.

"Killing is not a crime!"

Marcus murmured.

He seemed to already see the smoke of war rising, the battlefield strewn with corpses.

Right or wrong?

It's irrelevant!

A battle for survival, a fight to the death, a fight for every glimmer of hope.

Marcus finally understood what people meant when they said everyone was an enemy, why everyone was an enemy.

Indeed, everyone was an enemy!

Marcus then recalled the battlefield described in the so-called "purge day" within the Crossroads.

Attacked from multiple sides, there was absolutely no room for maneuver.

With his current strength, he didn't even have the right to survive.

Marcus felt he needed to digest the information he received today and plan his future carefully. He couldn't let a little success make him complacent.

"Back to reality,"

Marcus thought, returning to his bedroom in the cave behind the cliff.

Looking around, he admitted to himself that he had been somewhat complacent. Buying this cabin, ostensibly to avoid risks, was partly for rest.

Now, it seemed he needed to hurry and enter the story world. After all, reality wasn't safe either; the three-year period was uncertain, but who knew if a crisis would erupt prematurely?

Marcus planned to enter the story world as soon as he was fully rested.

After a short rest, Marcus immediately returned to the Shadow Sanctuary hall. He first obtained an internal communication device from Ruby before heading to the trading area to prepare for entering the story world.

This area also had rows of electronic screens displaying various items for sale, like an online marketplace.

At the top was a warning: "Never reveal the world name of the items you acquire!"

Marcus noticed there were even categories.

He tried selecting Enhancement: None.

Permanent Buff: None.

It seemed these were rare items, and no one was willing to trade them casually.

Item Selection - Exorcism Category:

[Soul-Summoning Mirror]: Can freeze evil spirits for a moment. Price: Only exchangeable for anomalous armor items.

The image shows a tarnished mirror with strange patterns in the center.

[Warding Talisman]: Made from supernatural materials, it can intimidate physical evil entities. Price: 3000 Survival Points or half a pound of Void Silver.

The image shows a token-shaped bone fragment that appears to have been polished and aged, with some patterns engraved on it.

[Shadow Wood Incense]: When lit and burned, it can absorb surrounding supernatural and life energy. Price: 800 Survival Points per stick.

It looks like a darkened twig with an otherworldly quality.
