Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 - The Housing Issue

The Level 3 "Psychic" superpower meant Lin Wuming couldn't become the "strongest" and dominate others, but it was highly suitable for daily life. It perfectly aligned with Lin Wuming's life plan of "lying flat."

"What's wrong, Lin Wuming? You look unwell. Are your wounds hurting?" Torami Toumi suddenly asked.

Lin Wuming snapped back to reality and shook his head. "I'm fine. I was just thinking about the future."

"You really should think carefully," Yomikawa Aiho nodded in agreement. "Your life is just beginning. Even though you've gone through a lot of hardship, please believe that after the bitterness comes the sweet. Your future life will definitely be beautiful and happy."

"Thank you for the kind words, Teacher," Lin Wuming said. "I believe so too."

Torami Toumi, however, was serious and mercilessly poured cold water on the sentiment: "We can't be careless yet, right? After all, the real mastermind behind the last assassination hasn't been found. That Dr. Yamamoto was just a soldier sent to execute the mission. If his commanders haven't been eliminated, they might send more killers."

Hearing this, both Lin Wuming and Yomikawa Aiho's expressions turned serious.

Yomikawa Aiho looked helpless: "Unfortunately, Torami is correct. Dr. Yamamoto took the commission on an anonymous website, and he doesn't know who his upstream employer is. Furthermore, that website has already been shut down... We have no leads now. I'm very sorry, Wuming-kun, you are indeed still in danger."

Part of the reason Yomikawa Aiho visited so frequently was to protect Lin Wuming and deter potential killers.

Lin Wuming thought for a moment and asked, "Have you investigated the research facility I was in before?"

"There is no research facility," Yomikawa Aiho stated.

"Huh?"

"Your file is blank," Yomikawa Aiho explained. "Your last recorded address was the orphanage. Unless you can recover your memory, we can't find any clues about a research organization."

"That's not normal," Lin Wuming said.

"Of course, it's not normal," Yomikawa Aiho shrugged. "Everyone knows your information was deliberately deleted—and they started acting only after your amnesia was confirmed. But their actions were quick and thorough."

"I don't have any of those memories left..." Lin Wuming said wryly. His transmigration didn't involve inheriting much of the original host's memory data.

Yomikawa Aiho nodded, not doubting his words, as Mental-type Espers had already diagnosed him: Lin Wuming had indeed lost his memory.

The research facility he was previously in likely received this information, which is why they chose to delete his file as a countermeasure.

As a result, Lin Wuming's experience from the past year became a blank slate, known to no one.

After a moment of silence, Yomikawa Aiho spoke again: "Wuming-kun, what are your plans? I've asked the doctor, and you can be discharged next week to recover at home. Do you want to continue inpatient treatment, or complete the discharge procedures?"

"That fast?" Lin Wuming was a bit surprised.

He had expected to stay longer, considering the extent of his injuries.

However, Lin Wuming's own healing speed was relatively fast, and Academy City's treatment methods were advanced. A week to bring his injuries under control to the point where he could be discharged for self-recovery was already considered slow.

In fact, Yomikawa Aiho had intentionally extended his hospital stay due to safety concerns.

"Go home..." Lin Wuming pondered, then considered his current bank balance. "Do you have any good student apartments to recommend?"

Academy City is a city where students are the primary citizens. Except for some boarding schools, students can apply to rent a private student apartment after entering junior high school.

The rent is very cheap. If one is not too picky, even a Level 0 scholarship is enough to maintain basic living necessities.

Lin Wuming wasn't short on money now, so he sought a certain quality of life and naturally wanted a slightly nicer place to live.

As a newcomer, consulting a Judgment officer was the most suitable course of action.

To his surprise, Yomikawa Aiho suddenly said, "Wuming-kun, why don't you move in with me? The apartment I rent is quite spacious."

"Huh?" Lin Wuming nearly jumped up again.

In terms of psychological age, Lin Wuming and Yomikawa Aiho were closer—they were the "same age."

Moreover, if she took off that dark blue uniform, Yomikawa Aiho was actually an above-average beauty.

For such a beautiful woman to suddenly invite him to "live together" left him a little dazed.

"Is that necessary?" Torami Toumi was the first to question it. Her relationship with Dr. Sakurai was close, and she currently lived alone in a student apartment. "Doesn't this city encourage students to live independently?"

"It's for Wuming-kun's protection," Yomikawa Aiho explained. "The apartment I rent is actually a designated dormitory building for the Judgment forces. The residents are all Judgment teachers. Due to shift rotations, there are people in the building 24 hours a day, and the security systems are comprehensive. It's one of the safest places in Academy City."

Yomikawa Aiho listed the merits of her residence like a salesperson: "To put it slightly dramatically, the safety level is almost comparable to the Chairman's windowless building."

"Is it really that formidable?" Torami Toumi asked.

"Of course," Yomikawa Aiho nodded confidently. "Ultimately, the Judgment forces are impressive. Generally, no one would dare cause trouble there."

Torami Toumi listened like she was hearing a story and was not entirely convinced, but Lin Wuming knew that Teacher Yomikawa Aiho wasn't exaggerating.

The Judgment forces are Academy City's official enforcement agency. They are used not only to handle and suppress Esper crime but occasionally conduct cross-border strikes.

Although the Judgment forces are composed of volunteer teachers, they are practically Academy City's "quasi-military organization," and with the addition of Academy City's high-tech gear, their combat power is self-evident.

Unless a Level 5 Esper went berserk and attacked, there was almost no force that could successfully assault the Judgment dormitory building.

In terms of safety alone, Yomikawa Aiho's apartment was impeccable.

"But, is it really necessary to be so cautious?" Lin Wuming asked. "Since I've genuinely lost my previous memories, the enemy shouldn't need to bother with me anymore, right?"

He hadn't encountered any new attackers during his hospital stay these past few days.

"Just in case," Yomikawa Aiho said earnestly. "No one knows if your memory might suddenly return. Those criminals definitely won't want to take that risk. Given the opportunity, they would most likely choose to silence you."
