Chapter 2 - a most surprising company

After carefully observing the mysterious girl's iris, he noticed its paleness. In this situation, Two answers were acceptable.

Firstly, it's possible she's blind, which could explain the paleness of her irises and the fact that she found herself alone in the store.

Secondly, she was infected, and she didn't like this hypothesis very much, because it was one of the signs that showed someone was infected.

He slowly stepped back to sit on a wooden chair that was a safe distance from her, then took out his knife, ready to retaliate against any aggression.

"I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself properly. My name is Kodji. That's all I can tell you about myself. And what's your nickname?"

He relaxed a little, leaned back in his chair, and crossed his arms while intently gazing at the young girl.

For her part, she was equally calm, staring blankly at the dust-covered table in front of her.

After several pleasant minutes without any vibrations in the air, Kodji got up and looked for something to eat and drink.

He was already heading towards the counter when he spotted a bottle of very high-quality whisky. He hesitated to take it but changed his mind and put it in his bag.

He returned to the girl with some provisions, nothing luxurious, but enough to sustain them for a while. There were some small cakes and dried meat, much to their hope A bottle of chilled water

He gave some to the girl before starting to eat them himself.

And it was surprisingly good; you could see a small smile of satisfaction with every bite he took.

But glancing at the second person with him, he noticed that she wasn't eating.

"If you want to survive you have to eat, I don't want to be dragging around a dead weight."

Seeing that she didn't react, he sighed and finished his cake. Before sitting back down and observing the girl

Meanwhile, outside it was already getting dark, which meant that if they didn't want to be caught off guard when they went out, they had to spend the night in the restaurant.

But in order for Kodji to sleep soundly, he had to check a few important things.

"You'll excuse me."

He approached the girl and began examining her body for any traces of bites; he checked her neck, arms, and legs. But she avoided directly touching any sensitive areas, instead searching for any bloodstains on her white dress.

"Hey! But wait a minute..."

KODJI noticed a disturbing detail

"Why are you wearing a white dress?"

It seemed like a stupid question, but in hindsight, you quickly realize something is wrong. Why was her dress so clean, and looked brand new? It was as if she were living through her first day of the apocalypse.

"Anyway, she can't answer my questions, so it's best not to rack my brains over it."

He looked for anything that could serve as a blanket and found a tablecloth, light admittedly, but it was something.

He covered her with it before walking away and sitting down in his chair to watch over her as best he could before falling asleep like a child.

Outside, night completely covered the sky, replacing the sun with magnificent stars and no moon.

***

At the first light of dawn, Kodji woke with a start before checking if he was still alive. Then he turned his gaze towards the young woman and noticed that she was still asleep.

He got up and packed his things before leaving. After ten minutes of searching the restaurant and reorganizing his belongings, he went to the young woman to wake her up.

What happened next was inconceivable

After trying to wake the girl, she woke with a start and began to scream.

With a firm gesture, he put his hand over her mouth, ordering her to be quiet.

"You're crazy!! Why are you yelling like that? Do you want to attract that crap or what?"

She abruptly pushed his hand away and glared at him, killing him with her eyes.

"Who are you?! Huh? And where am I?"

KODJI observed the young girl with great incomprehension.

"You...you can speak?!"

"Huh?! What kind of question is that? Of course I can talk"

She headed towards the wall, trying to avoid any contact with Kodji. How ironic, he did the same thing yesterday.

With a deep sigh, he sat down on a chair and threw her the food she hadn't eaten yesterday.

"Hey, you must be hungry, right?"

She barely managed to grab the cakes before realizing her body was craving food. So she began to devour the cakes one after the other, But she was about to choke before Kodji threw her a bottle of water.

"THANKS"

"You're welcome, but now I have several questions to ask you if you don't mind."

She agreed without much hesitation; perhaps she trusted him a little more? In any case, she could answer his questions.

He invited her to sit at a table, but she hesitated for a few minutes before sitting down. Then he did the same.

"what's your name"

She stared at him with an aggressive look.

"The least one could do is give their own before asking for a stranger's."

He stared at her before answering.

"I've already given mine"

"Oh yeah?! When? I don't remember meeting you somewhere before."

A vein of anger appeared on his forehead, but he calmed down fairly quickly.

"Kodji! That's my name, and yours?!"

She took one last sip of water before answering.

"Elie! That's my name."

"Okay Elie, I have a lot of questions to ask you"

He placed both feet on the table but received indignant looks from Elie, while remaining indifferent.

"First of all, what memories do you have up until yesterday?"

She placed her hand on her head and a headache struck her.

"I have no memory of it, it's strange... It's like it's all blurry."

He simply nodded before continuing

"You know how it went on the first day of the end of the world "

Elie was surprisingly confused by what Kodji was saying

"Kodji, is that it?! What do you mean by the end of the world?"

He was just as confused as she was.

"Wait, you're joking, right?!"

He paused for a moment, stunned, but before he could sort things out in his mind, they received a visitor.
