Chapter 27 - Chapter 24: Questions Under the Sky

Jay-Jay's POV

Chantelle and I had been driving around the same quiet area for almost an hour, just enjoying ourselves. No rush. No pressure. Just the road, music, and laughter filling the car.

Then Chan suddenly said, "I know a place."

"A place to talk. Or just relax," she added.

I followed her directions, and when we arrived, I parked the car and stepped out.

The view stole my breath.

We were on top of a hill, the city spread out below us, lights glowing softly like scattered stars. The night air was calm, peaceful—like it was holding its breath with us.

"The sky is very nice," I said quietly.

Chan took out her phone and snapped a picture of the view. Her fingers moved fast as she sent it.

"Who did you send it to?" I asked.

"My friends," she replied casually. "And now Andrew."

I smiled to myself.

"I actually have a question for you."

"Just a sec, please," she said, still typing.

I climbed ontoState and sat on the hood of the car, letting my legs hang freely. After a few minutes, Chan joined me, sitting beside me.

"Don't spoil the fun," I said softly. "Just be free tonight."

She nodded. "Okay."

I turned to her.

"Second question," I said. "How did you guys meet?"

She sighed dramatically. "That's going to be a long talk."

I laughed. "I'm listening."

"Through a game," she began. "We became friends, then decided to meet. After that, we grew close. My friends know him. My dad and my brother know him too. Even my mom knows him—he delivers snacks to the university."

I smiled, watching her expression soften as she spoke.

Then she suddenly stopped talking.

I looked at her.

"Final question," I said gently. "Do you like him… and why?"

She took a deep breath.

Then she talked.

For almost thirty minutes, she described Andrew—how he taught her things, how he was patient, how he listened, how he showed up without trying too hard. I didn't interrupt. I just listened.

At some point, I checked the time and smiled.

I already had my answer.

She finished quietly, then added, "Yes… I guess I like him."

"I know," I said simply.

She turned to me. "So you knew. You just wanted me to say it, didn't you?"

"Maybe," I replied with a grin.

She gave me a playful side punch.

"Hey," I warned, laughing. "We're on top of a car."

She stopped immediately, holding back her smile.

We fell silent after that, just sitting there, enjoying the view, the city lights, and the calm.

After a while, Chan spoke again, softer this time.

"Why did you drive off… leaving Keifer?"

I didn't answer right away.

The sky above us felt heavier than before.
