Chapter 157 - Kristen's abusive mother-in-law

Benjamin had been talking with his classmates. 

When he heard his mother's voice, he immediately broke into a run. He threw himself into Kristen's arms, hugging her tightly. In a small, muffled voice, he said, "Mommy, why did you come to pick me up today? Don't you have to work for Grandma at home? I really don't know when Grandma will finally leave our house."

Kristen hugged him back with all her strength, as if afraid he might disappear. Tears streamed down her face as she asked softly, "Benjamin… if Mommy says she wants to divorce your dad and leave that home, who would you want to be with?"

Standing at the side, Mary felt her chest tighten. 

In a divorce, the one who suffered the most was often the child. But if Kristen didn't leave, was she supposed to endure this kind of life for the rest of her days, silently breaking herself apart?

Benjamin was far more sensible than most children his age.
