At home, Kristen chatted with Mary for a long while. Only when her exhaustion could no longer be hidden did she finally smile weakly and say, "Sister, I'm going back to lie down for a bit. I didn't close my eyes at all last night."
"Go and rest," Mary replied gently. "Have a good sleep."
After watching television for a while on her own, Mary remembered that it was almost time to prepare dinner. She stood up, found a basket in the kitchen, and headed to the small vegetable garden outside.
She carefully picked a handful of kidney beans and a few eggplants.
With Kristen staying in the house, it was inconvenient to take vegetables from her space, so she decided to use what was already growing in the yard. Dinner could be simple tonight. Fortunately, there was still some meat left at home.
