Ryan had been driving the entire way steadily. By the time the sky darkened and the streetlights gradually lit up, the car finally entered the next town. The illuminated sign at the roadside made it clear. They had arrived at Havenmere.
Mary leaned slightly toward the window and took a look outside.
Shops lined both sides of the street, neon lights flickered one after another, and the smell of food drifted out from small restaurants that were still open despite the late hour. The town felt lively, carrying a kind of warmth that came from human activity rather than sheer bustle.
Ryan slowed the car and glanced sideways at his wife. Seeing her eyes wandering outside with interest, he asked gently, "Wife, what do you think? Tonight, should we find a hotel to rest, or just stay in the car for the night?"
