Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Xiaomei's Information

"Then Mills and I will be responsible for the south and west of the city, and Qiaohanna will be responsible for the north."

Qiaohanna tapped the table: "The war has lasted too long. I think we should consider how to end it."

"Who doesn't want to end the war?"

Banbaro scoffed.

"If you want to end the war, you'll have to give up the Stepstones. Then you'll have to pay to cross the Stepstones. Do you still want to keep your Governor's power?"

Their Governor positions were voted in by commoners, merchants, and administrators. There were too many wealthy merchants and nobles eyeing their positions!

Advocate for giving up the Stepstones?

Are you even trying to stay in power?

"What are you so anxious about?" Qiaohanna rolled her eyes. "When did I say we should give up the Stepstones?"

"Then what do you mean?" Banbaro's mouth twitched. "Climb into Aegon Targaryen's bed and use your S* to win him over?"

Qiaohanna smiled charmingly.

"If everything could be solved just by sleeping together, I wouldn't be standing here discussing matters with an idiot like you.

My meaning is to use Aegon Targaryen's four dragons to unite ourselves internally, win over Volantis, and form an invincible naval fleet.

After thoroughly clearing the Stepstones, couldn't we just find an excuse to settle accounts with Volantis?"

Having been called an idiot by Qiaohanna, Banbaro's face wasn't looking good, and he snorted coldly.

"Hmph, easier said than done. Volantis isn't stupid. It's not certain who will settle accounts with whom then."

"I'm just making a suggestion, I didn't say we absolutely have to do it, idiot."

Qiaohanna spat and got up to leave.

Seeing this, Lisandro also stood up, nodding slightly: "I have something to do, so I'll be leaving first."

After leaving the Governor's Hall, Lisandro did not immediately return to the bank but came to Lace Street.

After several turns, Lisandro appeared before a small tavern and pushed the door open.

"I'm looking for your boss."

As he spoke, Lisandro took out a gold coin and placed it on the counter.

After the waitress confirmed the gold coin was real, she nodded.

"Come with me."

Lisandro followed the waitress through a narrow corridor and finally arrived at a study.

"Long time no see, Mr. Lisandro."

A charming female voice, comparable to Qiaohanna's, sounded.

"Long time no see, Lady Meisa."

Lisandro greeted her with a smile, though the wariness in his eyes was impossible to hide.

Meisaria, wearing a long black velvet hooded robe trimmed with blood-red silk, poured Lisandro a glass of wine.

"This is the fifth time you've come to me. Relax." Meisaria handed the wine glass to Lisandro.

Lisandro took the wine glass but did not taste the fine wine within. Instead, he got straight to the point and stated his purpose.

"I want detailed information on Aegon Targaryen, including why he was enfeoffed in the Stepstones and what his status is at the court of the Seven Kingdoms."

"Yes, but the price is very high, three thousand Lys gold coins."

"Three thousand Lys gold coins?" Lisandro frowned.

A young, healthy, strong ordinary slave was only about ten silver coins.

Although three thousand Lys gold coins were not a lot for Lisandro, he didn't want to be taken for a fool.

Meisaria took a sip of wine.

"Aegon Targaryen should have a very capable spymaster under him. I imagine gathering information on him isn't easy.

However, I still suggest you buy a copy first. After reading the information on Aegon Targaryen, then decide whether or not to become his enemy."

Meisaria smiled meaningfully.

Lisandro rubbed the jade ring on his thumb, hesitated for a moment, and then said: "I hope it's truly as you say and my three thousand gold coins are well spent."

"Absolutely not, I guarantee it!" Meisaria smiled confidently.

-----------------

The sun set, and night fell.

Roars rose and fell over Bloodstone Isle.

Sunfyre was the first to appear below the clouds, and the four dragons landed near the camp in succession.

Especially Vhagar, when she landed, the entire camp could feel the ground tremble!

The camp was still brightly lit at this time, with large numbers of soldiers busy moving supplies and pitching tents.

"Your Highness." Alec came forward to greet him.

Weimond followed closely behind.

"Prince, you're finally back. The feast can begin at any time, please come in quickly."

"Feast?" Aegon's eyebrows slightly raised.

"Your Highness, Ser Weimond has prepared a welcome feast for us," Alec explained.

"How can this be?" Aegon's face sank. "As the Duke of the Stepstones, how can I let Ser Weimond host the feast?"

"Alec, arrange for a few people to bring down the best wine from the ship, and slaughter ten woolly sheep and twenty white-haired pigs."

"Alright, I'll go do it now." Alec turned and left to arrange for people to move the wine.

"Then I thank you, Prince." Weimond beamed with joy.

He was stationed on Bloodstone Isle with a thousand men to ensure the stability of the Bloodstone Isle route, but Corlys's supply of materials to Bloodstone Isle was not "abundant."

After all, for the Velaryon family, the Stepstones were not a fief but a battlefield, and battlefield conditions were naturally limited.

Supplies like wine, fruits, vegetables, and livestock were supplied in fixed quantities.

Most soldiers ate salted food and black bread. Fortunately, there was a small river on Bloodstone Isle, with plenty of wild vegetables nearby.

Boiling the black bread, which was as hard as stone, and the salted food in wild vegetable soup became the soldiers' daily rations.

It was precisely for this reason that Weimond was so happy when he heard that Aegon was going to slaughter sheep and pigs and invite him and his soldiers to drink.
