Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Hunt

I sat at the cave entrance.

Eyes closed.

Sensing the surrounding space.

Within the 50-meter range.

Everything was crystal clear.

Trees swaying in the breeze.

Faint magic fluctuations in the distance.

Should be weak magic beasts moving about.

This perception was too convenient.

Like having full map vision.

Suddenly—

I sensed an anomaly.

Magic beasts were approaching.

Not one.

A group.

I concentrated.

Sensed carefully.

Six.

Medium build.

Distance about 40 meters.

And—

They were flanking.

Approaching the cave from different directions.

Movements very careful.

Very alert.

This wasn't ordinary nighttime activity.

But purposeful hunting.

I opened my eyes.

Looked toward the forest depths.

Couldn't see anything in the darkness.

But spatial perception was clear.

Six magic beasts.

Magic fluctuations not too strong.

But not a small number.

And their target—

Was us.

I immediately turned around.

Walked into the cave.

"Wake up," I said quietly.

"We have a situation."

All members instantly became alert.

Waspy opened its eyes.

"What situation?"

"Magic beasts are surrounding us," I said.

"Six, medium-sized magic beasts."

"They're very close."

Spike immediately stood up.

"What kind of magic beasts?"

"Not sure yet," I said.

"But they're flanking."

"Should be predators."

Everyone quickly prepared.

Shadow flew to the entrance to observe.

Horn and Venom stood on either side.

Shell blocked the front.

Spike, Waspy, and Brownie at the rear.

I walked out of the cave.

Stood at the entrance.

Used spatial perception to track those magic beasts.

They were getting closer.

30 meters.

25 meters.

20 meters.

The encirclement was tightening.

Finally—

Rustling sounds came from the forest.

Leaves being pushed aside.

Six magic beasts emerged from the darkness.

Moonlight shone on them.

I saw clearly.

Forest Wolves.

Six Forest Wolves.

Gray fur.

Sharp fangs.

Cold eyes.

I immediately checked their information.

The leader: Level 18/30.

The others: varying levels 15-17.

Not the Wolf King's pack.

Should be another wolf pack.

But why did they find this place?

The lead wolf let out a low growl.

"Grrowl—"

Other wolves slowly approached.

Maintaining their encirclement formation.

They were very experienced.

Knew how to hunt in packs.

The encirclement grew smaller.

15 meters.

10 meters.

They stared at me.

Also stared at my teammates in the cave.

Assessing threats.

Looking for weaknesses.

I stood at the entrance.

Didn't move.

Just watched them.

The lead wolf stopped.

It sensed something.

Confusion flashed in its eyes.

The aura on me had changed.

No longer that weak Hoarder Squirrel from before.

But a Dimension Walker.

But it didn't know what that meant.

It only felt—

Something was off.

Standoff for a few seconds.

The lead wolf made its decision.

It suddenly lunged!

Very fast.

Fangs aimed straight for my throat.

Other wolves also attacked simultaneously.

Pouncing toward the cave from different directions.

But I didn't dodge.

"Spatial Teleport."

The world twisted.

I vanished.

The lead wolf pounced on empty air.

Crashed heavily to the ground.

It froze.

Where was the prey?

Then—

It felt killing intent behind it.

I appeared behind it.

Less than a meter away.

"Dimensional Rift."

My paw slashed forward.

A fine crack appeared in the air.

Then expanded.

Flew toward the wolf's hind leg.

"Slash—"

The rift swept across.

No sound.

No collision.

Just gently swept across.

The wolf tried to turn around.

But—

"Crack."

Its hind leg severed at the joint.

Cut surface smooth.

Blood gushed out.

The wolf collapsed screaming.

"Aowooo—!"

I didn't stop.

Slashed again.

The second rift swept across its neck.

The wolf's cry cut off abruptly.

[Killed Forest Wolf]

[Gained 85 experience]

The other five wolves all froze.

They saw the lead wolf fall.

But didn't see clearly what happened.

Only saw that small rodent-type magic beast.

Suddenly appear behind the wolf.

Then the wolf died.

One wolf reacted.

Turned and lunged at me.

Jaws open wide.

"Spatial Teleport."

I vanished again.

Appeared at its side.

"Dimensional Rift."

The rift swept from the side.

Through the wolf's ribs.

Directly cut open its organs.

The wolf was still airborne.

Already dead.

Split in two when it landed.

[Killed Forest Wolf]

[Gained 90 experience]

The remaining four wolves finally realized.

This wasn't prey.

But a hunter.

And a hunter they couldn't contend with at all.

The third wolf tried to flee.

But too late.

I teleported ahead of it.

Blocking its path.

"Dimensional Rift."

The rift swept head-on.

The wolf's head flew off.

Body charged forward a few steps.

Then collapsed.

[Killed Forest Wolf]

[Gained 80 experience]

The fourth wolf let out a terrified howl.

Turned and ran.

But I was faster.

"Spatial Teleport."

Appeared on its escape route.

"Dimensional Rift."

The rift swept across its abdomen.

The wolf's entrails spilled on the ground.

It ran a few steps.

Collapsed.

Twitched a few times.

Went still.

[Killed Forest Wolf]

[Gained 88 experience]

The remaining two wolves completely broke down.

They fled desperately.

Didn't even dare howl.

I watched their backs.

Didn't chase.

Magic consumption was a bit high.

[My MP: 90/250]

Four Spatial Teleports.

Four Dimensional Rifts.

Total 160 MP.

90 points remaining.

Enough for emergencies.

But couldn't waste more.

The entire battle.

From start to finish.

Less than a minute.

Four Forest Wolves.

All killed.

The other two escaped.

I turned to look at the cave.

All members stood at the entrance.

Dumbstruck.

"This..." Spike's mouth hung open.

"That was way too fast."

"I didn't even react," Venom said.

"Battle was already over."

Shadow flew to a wolf corpse.

Carefully examined the wound.

"Can't understand it at all," it said.

"How was this done?"

Horn walked to another wolf.

"The cut is very smooth."

"Like it was sliced by something sharp."

"But can't see any weapon."

Waspy and Brownie exchanged glances.

They could feel it.

The spatial fluctuations during the battle just now.

That instant movement.

That spatial cutting.

Too terrifying.

This mobility.

Almost impossible to counter.

Enemies didn't even have time to react.

Instantly killed.

"You right now..." Waspy said.

"Really strong."

I nodded.

Though only level 1.

The Dimension Walker's abilities.

Were indeed powerful.

Spatial Teleport's mobility.

Dimensional Rift's lethality.

Combined together.

Against medium-sized magic beasts like these.

Complete domination.

System notification suddenly appeared.

[Level Up: 2/50]

[Experience: 65/300]

Leveled up.

I opened my panel to check.

[Dimension Walker] [Gray]

[Level: 2/50]

[Experience: 65/300]

[HP: 290/290]

[MP: 260/260]

[Strength: 30]

[Defense: 23]

[Speed: 37]

[Luck: 16]

Closed the panel.

I walked toward the wolf corpses.

Prepared to inspect them.

Suddenly thought of a question.

Why did these wolves attack us?

We were hiding very discreetly.

And had only been here one day.

Shouldn't have been discovered normally.

Unless—

They came specifically looking for us?

Or was it just coincidence?

Just happened to pass by?

I carefully recalled.

These wolves' actions.

Very deliberate.

Directly surrounded the cave.

Didn't seem like a chance encounter.

More like they'd tracked us here.

But they weren't the Wolf King's pack.

Levels weren't high either.

Should be another wolf pack.

Could it be—

The Wolf King sent them?

No.

If the Wolf King had sent them.

Should have sent stronger ones.

These wolves were too weak.

Then just coincidence?

I wasn't sure.

But whether coincidence or not.

One thing was very clear.

This cave wasn't safe anymore.

Discovered once.

Could be a second time.

Had to change locations.

I turned to look at my teammates.

"We need to change locations."

All members nodded.

They realized it too.

"Leave now?" Spike asked.

I looked at the sky.

Moon hanging in the sky.

Still deep night.

"Leave now," I said.

"Transfer overnight."

"Can't stay here."

Everyone began packing up.

Actually nothing much to pack.

We didn't have much to begin with.

"Everyone enter the space," I said.

"Just me outside."

"It's safer that way."

Teammates nodded.

They entered the Dimensional Cheek Pouch one by one.

Spike, Shadow, Horn, Venom.

Shell, Waspy, Brownie.

All went in.

I took one last look at the cave.

Confirmed nothing was left behind.

Then turned around.

Walked into the forest.

Moonlight filtered through leaves.

Forming mottled light and shadow on the ground.

I moved through the darkness.

Used spatial perception to probe the surroundings.

Ensured no danger.

Then continued forward.

Searching for a new hiding place.

Had to find a more concealed location.

Best would be somewhere not easily discovered.

I walked while thinking.

Deep forest?

No.

More powerful magic beasts there.

Forest edge?

Also no.

Too open, easily discovered.

Had to find a moderate location.

Wouldn't encounter too strong magic beasts.

Also wouldn't be easily found.

I continued forward in the darkness.
