Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Midterms, Misunderstandings, and Rivalry

‎Scene 1: Midterm Announcement

‎The next week, Ms. Han walked into Class 2-A holding a stack of papers.

‎"Midterms are coming up next week. Everyone must study hard," she announced. The room buzzed with anxiety and determination.

‎Whispers quickly spread about the transfer student:

‎"Do you think he'll ace everything?"

‎"Of course… he probably already knows the answers."

‎"Ugh, why is he perfect at everything?"

‎Jihoon's eyes narrowed. "I'll make sure I don't lose… especially to him."

‎Scene 2: Library Study Session

‎After class, a small group, including the protagonist, gathered in the library to study. Soojin nervously asked him for help with a difficult math problem.

‎He patiently explained, step by step. "Just remember the formula, then apply it carefully. You'll get it," he said with a reassuring smile.

‎Nearby, Jihoon watched, irritation and envy building. "Why does everyone always go to him?" he muttered.

‎Scene 3: Misunderstanding Sparks

‎Later, a classmate accidentally overheard Jihoon talking about "challenging the transfer student" and misinterpreted it. Rumors quickly spread that Jihoon disliked the protagonist, though in reality it was a mix of rivalry and admiration.

‎Some classmates whispered to Soojin:

‎"He hates him!"

‎"No, I think he's jealous…"

‎Soojin frowned, unsure what to believe, creating a subtle tension in the group.

‎Scene 4: After-School Challenge

‎Jihoon finally confronted the protagonist during after-school club activities, still fuming but trying to stay composed.

‎"You're… good at everything," Jihoon said, struggling with his words.

‎The protagonist smiled faintly. "I'm just trying my best. Maybe I can help you if you want?"

‎Jihoon's expression was a mix of frustration and surprise. He stormed off, muttering, "No… I'll do it myself!"

‎Scene 5: Subtle Romance Tension

‎Soojin stayed behind to gather books and hesitated before speaking to the protagonist. "Thanks… for helping me earlier."

‎He smiled gently. "Anytime. You don't need to hesitate."

‎Their eyes met briefly, creating a warm, quiet moment, while classmates walking by whispered excitedly about the growing connection.

‎Scene 6: Study Success and Envy

‎Over the next few days, the protagonist continued helping classmates with their midterm preparations. Students who once were envious now admired him for his kindness, though jealousy still simmered in some hearts.

‎Jihoon, meanwhile, studied harder than ever, determined to outperform the protagonist in the upcoming exams.

‎Scene 7: Closing Scene – Calm Before the Storm

‎The chapter ended with the protagonist walking home alone at sunset, reflecting calmly:

‎"Rivalries, misunderstandings, and friendships… school life is already more interesting than I imagined. But I'm ready for whatever comes next."

‎Behind him, Jihoon clenched his fists in the distance, promising a growing rivalry that would continue to challenge and push them both.
