Chapter 1 - The boy's first murder

The man coughed up blood from pure agony. Before he could even rest, his hand was crushed by Kai.

"STOPPPP!" the man screamed.

Kai ignored him, his relentless stomps continuing as he stared motionlessly at his target.

"Fine," the boy said, stepping back. "I'll just go for your head instead."

Kai raised his foot above the elder, ready to crush him completely—but the words the man spoke next made him freeze.

"What about him. Raikou. Your brother."

The elder gasped, shocked from Kai's reaction but he took advantage, crawling to his shrine, leaving a trail of fresh blood.

"Raikou?" Kai whispered, stepping back.

"Please… Almighty… help m—"

His prayer was cut short as Kai vanished, reappearing above the man and slamming his foot into his head. Blood soaked Kai's shoe, but he didn't flinch.

"What about him? You think he'd choose someone like you over me? You don't even know him.

The elder pressed his trembling hand against the shrine, gritting his teeth through the pain. Suddenly, a blue shield erupted between him and Kai.

This was the man's mana. His last defense. Kai jumped back slightly, his eyes studying this new obstacle. But for Kai, it was merely a opened door.

The man panted, clutching his hand on the statued shrine, which glowed. But only glowed.

His eyes snapped back to Kai, a sharp green, filled with rage.

"Raikou will care. I raised him, trained him… even treated him like my own son. Whilst you...

The elder stood painfully, his face turning into a twisted grin, bursting into a foolish laughter. He yelled...

"ALL YOU DID WAS PRAY EVERY DAY, IGNORING HIM COMPLET—".

Kai vanished, reappearing in front of the old man and shattering the shield with a single finger. The elder flinched as Kai leaned closer.

"I wonder…" Kai said, his eyes narrowing as he stared at the blood-soaked face. "Are all you old people always this wretched?"

The man froze but one glance of his eyes made him shake as they connected with the demon's mana.

"Shooken," Kai mocked. His eyes were now a deep, glowing purple.
