Like usual, my daughter quickly tired herself out looking around at everything once I took her outside.
While going outside during the day seemed to be my daughter's favorite thing in the world, she was usually half-asleep by the time the sun came up.
My daughter, Bell's birth, had been an incredibly simple affair. I'd essentially just come home one day, and there she was. Pepper, with her Saiyan pain tolerance, seemed to find the whole 'giving birth' situation significantly less irritating than the whole 'carrying the baby for nine months' thing.
Though, technically, Bell had been born two weeks early.
Bell's body was something that I took great care to monitor for medical reasons.
She required significantly more nutrition than Cynder had, according to Cynthia. Though Saiyan women like Pepper were built for that sort of thing as a genetic requirement, it quickly became apparent that Bell required supplemental milk on top of Pepper's own natural supply.
But the main issue came from, as I'd suspected, Bell's S-Cells.
They didn't deactivate.
She was permanently stuck in the SSJP state.
This had a few interesting side-effects.
Her tail was the most visually notable one.
A normal Saiyan tail was large enough for the Saiyan to wrap it around their waist with a few inches of extra room.
Bell's was roughly half that size, maybe a little longer. She could bring it around to her front, touch her belly button, and grab it, but it was significantly shorter than the average Saiyan tail.
Now, one would think that Bell's tail would adapt to being constantly drained of Blutz energy by becoming thicker, able to store more. Unfortunately, it seemed that the constant drain had stunted the growth of that particular limb while she'd been in the womb, rather than enhancing it.
Due to the constant motion of energy, the furry blonde nub was also even more sensitive than a normal Saiyan's tail. When she rubbed it against things the wrong way, she instantly started screaming or crying, depending on her mood at the time. She quickly learned on her own not to grab it, too.
I quickly found a useful application of that particular little issue, though. When Bell got fussy, a gentle stroke of her tail was enough to instantly put her to sleep, no matter how energetic she was.
The reason for that was obvious.
Since Bell was stuck in SSJP, her body actually required a constant supply of Blutz energy to function.
Not much.
Not enough that she could stay awake for more than about three hours outside of some sort of external Blutz source, due to her tail's stunted storage capacity.
If she didn't have enough Blutz energy, she wouldn't lose the SSJP transformation like one would normally expect. Rather, she simply fell asleep, her body going into something of an 'energy conservation' mode akin to hibernation.
Since, apart from that, she was an incredibly loud, fussy, and destructive baby, it made her significantly easier to handle. When Bell needed to sleep, all we had to do was block the moon or turn off the Blutz Emitters in her bedroom until she ran out of energy. Since it wasn't actually something that her body genuinely needed to function, it wasn't actually dangerous for her to run low.
At first, I'd installed Blutz emitters throughout the apartment, to completely mitigate Bell's Blutz requirement during the day.
Then, Lynn had pointed out that Bell's personality was already taking after Pepper… and then some.
She was not a considerate baby at all.
The baby had begun to fall into a pattern. Sleep for thirty seconds. Scream for two minutes. Break something. Scream for another two minutes. Then fall asleep for thirty more seconds.
Repeat.
It was suspiciously evil for a baby. Slightly malicious, even.
So, in the end, I'd shut the Blutz Emitters off, for the most part.
The night essentially became Bell's 'day', though the Emitters still extended it a bit.
Not enough for Bell's liking. One of the first true, obvious preferences that she developed was a love of morning walks. She liked feeling the sun on her skin, seeing the way morning light interacted with structures. It made her extremely happy. Babysitting protocol began transforming her 'Blutzless but awake' time into 'Walkies' time.
Once Bell got older, maybe two or three, I'd probably give her a Blutz Emitter of her own, so that she didn't have to deal with randomly falling asleep during the day.
I suspected that Bell would probably, out of sheer necessity, become the youngest Saiyan to ever master the Blutz-Light Generation technique.
For now, my daughter was tiny, cute, and slept for at least eight hours a day.
That was enough for me
