Chapter 26 - A Sovereigns Choice

The Emperor's smile disappeared.

For the first time since the beginning of the confrontation, he looked at Kael without amusement.

Kael stood among the ruins of the Imperial Palace, his sword pointed toward the throne.

Behind him, the twelve figures remained silent.

Eleven Avatars.

One Origin.

And beyond them stood the Thirteenth Sovereign.

Above the battlefield, the wounded Law continued bleeding silver fragments into the sky.

The Otherworld Gate remained open.

Millions of people across the Empire had been drained of their accumulated destiny.

Everything the Emperor had planned for thousands of years had finally reached its final stage.

Yet Kael had refused to become the weapon he was designed to be.

The Emperor slowly lowered his hand.

"You still don't understand."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"Then explain it."

"I don't need to."

The Emperor looked toward the white figure.

"He will."

Everyone turned.

The Human Origin stood quietly behind Kael.

The white figure stared at the Emperor for several seconds before speaking.

"The Emperor is telling the truth about one thing."

Kael's expression changed.

"What?"

"I was never supposed to awaken."

The battlefield became silent.

The Human Origin continued.

"The eleven bloodlines were never intended to coexist inside a single human body."

Kael looked toward his Avatars.

"Then why did they?"

"Because the Emperor forced the conditions necessary for convergence."

The Emperor nodded.

"Exactly."

Kael's grip tightened.

"So everything..."

"Yes."

"Even the experiment?"

"Yes."

"My escape?"

"Yes."

"My teacher?"

The Emperor's expression remained emotionless.

"Yes."

Kael's eyes darkened.

"Then what about my academy?"

The Emperor paused.

"Your admission was the first test."

Kael froze.

The words struck harder than any attack.

"The entrance examination..."

"Was designed to identify candidates capable of resisting multiple bloodline influences."

Kael remembered.

The entrance examination.

The perfect score.

The strange feeling that someone had been watching him.

The academy's sealed archives.

The unusually powerful instructors.

The competition at the Imperial Palace.

The puzzles.

The betrayal.

Everything had been connected.

The Emperor continued.

"You were never randomly selected."

"You were discovered."

Kael lowered his sword slightly.

"By whom?"

The Emperor smiled.

"By me."

Silence.

Rion's face became pale.

"You..."

The Emperor ignored him.

"Your mental disruption ability was the first anomaly."

"It shouldn't have existed in a human."

"But you possessed it naturally."

"That made you valuable."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"So you experimented on me because of my ability."

"No."

The Emperor shook his head.

"I experimented on you because your ability proved something."

"What?"

"That your soul could reject predetermined outcomes."

The white figure looked at Kael.

"That's why you're different."

Kael stared at his hands.

The Emperor continued.

"The eleven genes were merely the beginning."

"The real experiment was your soul."

Kael suddenly understood.

The genes weren't what made him special.

They were only tools.

The real reason he survived...

Was because his soul refused to become what others had decided it should become.

The Thirteenth Sovereign smiled faintly.

"Now you see it."

Kael looked at him.

"You knew?"

"I suspected."

"Then why didn't you tell me?"

"Because knowledge given too early becomes another form of control."

Kael was silent.

The Thirteenth Sovereign continued.

"You needed to discover the answer yourself."

Suddenly—

The sky cracked.

Everyone looked upward.

The silver wound left by the Emperor's attack on the Law began closing.

The Law was repairing itself.

The High Arbiter Alpha returned.

Its body was damaged.

Six wings were reduced to four.

Its silver crown was broken.

But it remained standing.

> Correction sequence resumed.

> Primary anomaly: Human Origin.

> Secondary anomaly: Independent Avatars.

> Tertiary anomaly: Thirteenth Sovereign.

Its gaze moved toward Kael.

> All anomalies will be eliminated.

The Emperor laughed.

"You see?"

He spread his arms.

"The Law doesn't care who rules."

"It only cares about preserving its system."

The Thirteenth Sovereign looked toward Alpha.

"Then we have a problem."

Kael raised his sword again.

"No."

Everyone looked at him.

Kael stepped forward.

"We have an opportunity."

The Emperor frowned.

"What are you talking about?"

Kael pointed toward the sky.

"The Law wants to erase everyone who doesn't fit its rules."

His gaze moved toward the Otherworld Gate.

"The Otherworld wants to conquer us."

Then toward the Emperor.

"You want to control everyone."

Finally, he looked at the Thirteenth Sovereign.

"And you want everyone to have the freedom to choose."

The Thirteenth Sovereign smiled.

"Continue."

Kael lowered his sword.

"None of you are going to win."

The Emperor laughed.

"You think you can defeat all three?"

"No."

Kael's eyes became sharp.

"I'm going to change the battlefield."

The Space gene awakened.

The world around Kael distorted.

His pupils became filled with countless stars.

Spectral Shift.

His body became partially intangible.

Then—

Memory Sculpture.

Images appeared throughout the battlefield.

Not illusions.

Memories.

The memories of the Empire.

The memories of the people sacrificed by the Emperor.

The memories of the academy.

The memories of Kael's teacher saving him.

The memories of the experiment.

The memories of every person who had died because of the Emperor's plan.

Millions of people saw them.

Soldiers.

Citizens.

Cultivators.

Even members of the Emperor's own army.

The truth spread across the Empire like wildfire.

The Emperor's face changed.

"What have you done?"

Kael looked at him.

"I showed them the truth."

"You can't!"

"I already did."

The Emperor's destiny aura began fluctuating.

His power depended upon the accumulated loyalty of the Empire.

But now...

That loyalty was changing.

People began questioning him.

Then rejecting him.

Then turning against him.

Across the capital, soldiers lowered their weapons.

Some removed the imperial insignia from their armor.

Others looked toward the palace in horror.

The Emperor's power began falling.

"No..."

He clenched his fists.

"NO!"

Kael stared at him.

"You built your power on people who never chose you."

"And now they're choosing."

The Thirteenth Sovereign smiled.

"Beautiful."

The Emperor suddenly looked toward the Otherworld Gate.

"Civilization King!"

The crimson-eyed ruler stepped forward.

"You promised me an alliance."

"I promised nothing."

The Emperor's eyes widened.

"You said—"

"I said your plan interested me."

The Civilization King raised his hand.

The Otherworld army immediately stopped.

"I never said I would die for it."

The Emperor's expression became furious.

"You traitor!"

The Civilization King smiled.

"I am an enemy."

"Enemies don't betray each other."

The Emperor's breathing became heavier.

Then...

A faint laugh came from the ruined palace.

The Thirteenth Sovereign looked at him.

"Your plan has failed."

The Emperor stood silently.

His destiny aura continued weakening.

But instead of surrendering...

He smiled.

Kael immediately sensed something wrong.

"What?"

The Emperor looked toward the ground.

"You really thought..."

"...the destiny formation was my final weapon?"

The entire battlefield became still.

The Emperor raised one hand.

A single golden thread appeared between his fingers.

The thread wasn't connected to the Empire.

It wasn't connected to the Law.

It wasn't connected to the Otherworld.

It was connected to something beneath the Imperial Palace.

The Thirteenth Sovereign's eyes widened.

"Don't."

The Emperor pulled the thread.

Something answered.

BOOM!

The ground beneath the palace split open.

An ancient chamber emerged from beneath the ruins.

Inside stood an enormous black crystal.

And within the crystal...

Someone was sleeping.

Kael stared at the figure.

The Moon Goddess suddenly stepped forward.

"No..."

The Blade Avatar's expression changed.

The Thirteenth Sovereign became completely silent.

Kael looked at him.

"You know that person."

The Thirteenth Sovereign slowly nodded.

"Yes."

"Who?"

His answer came quietly.

"The first Sovereign."

Kael's eyes widened.

The Emperor laughed.

"The being who existed before the Law."

"The being who existed before the Otherworld civilizations."

"The being whose death created the thirteen Sovereign Bloodlines."

The crystal began cracking.

The sleeping figure opened its eyes.

The Emperor raised both arms.

"Wake up."

The crystal shattered.

A wave of ancient power swept across the planet.

Every Sovereign Bloodline inside Kael screamed simultaneously.

And the Thirteenth Sovereign whispered:

"He's back."
