Chapter 53 - Chapter 54: Fire the Cannon, the Horn of Counterattack

"The Disruptor has charged to 50%."

"The Disruptor has charged to 80%."

"The Disruptor has fully charged!"

The arriving Jiyan learned of Noah's actions from the other sentinels and, greatly moved, hugged Noah tightly.

"Hey, no, old Jiyan, what are you doing."

"No need for words of gratitude. Noah, after this battle, no matter what difficulties you encounter, I, Jiyan, will be there whenever you call!"

The rain stopped.

There was no more time for expressions. Jiyan took out his terminal, simultaneously contacting multiple people.

Baizhi: "General, the influence of the Retroact Rain has dissipated. Monitoring shows a significant decrease in the number of Tacet Discords in Norfall Barrens."

Mortefi: "The Disruptor is fully charged and ready to fire at any time. However, each shot from the Disruptor requires a massive amount of energy; we only have one firing opportunity."

Jinhsi: "In my capacity and authority as the Magistrate of Jinzhou, I have obtained permission to fire the Disruptor. Everyone, there is no need for concern."

Jinhsi: "No matter what, the outcome of this battle will be borne by me alone."

Jinhsi: "General, Noah, just charge forward."

Jinhsi: "All departments, permission granted to fire the Disruptor!"

Jiyan: "Target—Norfall Barrens!"

Noah: "Fire!"

Under the adjustments of various Engineer departments, the ancient and powerful Disruptor cannon seemed to awaken from slumber.

Various energy reactors reacted within the cannon body, emitting heat so intense that even Noah, several meters away, could clearly feel it.

"Boom!"

A cannon shot rang out.

The massive barrier protecting Norfall Barrens was completely pierced with a breach. As the Disruptor took effect, that breach gradually expanded.

The barrier created by the Threnodian's power disintegrated from point to surface, ultimately completely dissipating.

"If only there were a few more cannons like the Disruptor."

Noah looked at such a powerful weapon as the Disruptor and couldn't help feeling some regret.

In the worldview of Wuthering Waves, the technological strength mastered by Solaris was no less than that of the blue planet he traversed from.

It was just that Solaris relied too much on Resonators and did not properly emphasize the development of technological weapons.

Only after experiencing several civilizational declines did various places in Solaris gradually begin to value weapon technology. The Disruptor was one of the results.

Such a powerful weapon, yet unfortunately only one existed.

If it were the country he came from before traversing—that one suffering from firepower insufficiency phobia—a weapon like the Disruptor would probably be continuously replicated, optimized, and upgraded as soon as it was developed.

"Full army, attack!"

A loud and stern shout interrupted Noah's thoughts. Countless melee squads of the Midnight Rangers charged toward Norfall Barrens first.

Jiyan's gaze swept toward Noah, Yangyang, and Jianxin at his side. When the three met his gaze and nodded, he raised his voice to order:

"We're going too!"

The few leaped down from the high platform, charging deep into Norfall Barrens under the cover of the melee squads.

===✧✦✧===

Norfall Barrens.

At the center of the massive Ovathrax statue, within the Domain of Sound [Heaven-Suspended Beacon Fire], the scarlet figure stopped waving her staff. Under her ash-gray long hair, her crimson left pupil slowly opened.

"The barrier has been broken... as expected."

Phrolova curved her lips into a faint smile, gentle ripples like autumn water flowing in her beautiful eyes.

"Next is... the downfall of a general, the disappearance of an army, the destruction of a city... heh, a lament of despair worth savoring carefully."

A Red Spider Lily was planted by her. She turned back, taking one last look at the end of this space—that black-purple "moon."

Stepping out of the Sono Sphere, Phrolova, standing at the statue's center, lowered her head, overlooking the distant tiny Jinzhou and the group of four breaking through the Tacet Discord tide in the distance.

Standing high up always made one easily feel lost, forgetting who had lifted them to such a position.

Endless frequencies were mobilized to the statue's center, reconstructed by the war Threnodian Ovathrax, resurrecting into new Tacet Discords.

These newborn Tacet Discords started from the statue's feet, becoming a new wave of Tacet Discord tide, surging toward Jinzhou.

The more war there was, the more nourishment it brought to the Threnodian Ovathrax.

Her vermilion lips slightly parted. Phrolova gazed into the distance from her high vantage, about to express some sentiments, when her originally calm eyes suddenly widened in panic.

In the distance, a Disruptor shot came straight toward Phrolova's position, precisely hitting the statue's center.

Boom!

With a cannon shot, Phrolova's figure turned into countless Red Spider Lily petals and dissipated.

On the ground.

"Well done, Mortefi. There's still enough energy in the Disruptor for one low-power shot, right?"

Noah kicked away two Excarat soldiers, holding his terminal to communicate with Mortefi:

"That shot—fire it at the position I indicated. Did you see it? Yes, yes, that position. Aim there."

Boom!

Another cannon shot rang out, announcing the shattering of a sculpture suspended in the air over Norfall Barrens, and also signifying that the Disruptor had no energy left at all.

Mortefi, working far away in the Engineer department, twitched at the corners of his mouth, his teeth unconsciously clenching.

Originally, after breaking the Norfall Barrens barrier, the remaining energy in the Disruptor was enough for two low-power shots.

In Mortefi's view, he had planned to use these two firing opportunities as backup resources for the entire army, delivering effect at critical moments.

As a result, Noah proactively approached him, asking him to fire in the direction Noah indicated.

Mortefi sought instructions from Jinhsi and Jiyan on this matter, unexpectedly both agreeing to Noah's plan.

Helplessly, Mortefi could only fire, but he felt some resentment in his heart.

These two shots should have had greater impact, not wasted in vain.

"Bad!"

An exclamation rang out in the Engineer department:

"General Jiyan and the others have already entered Norfall Barrens. Due to interference from the Threnodian's power, we can no longer contact them!"

"What!"

Mortefi strode to the researcher who had exclaimed, urgently checking the corresponding communication information.

Indeed, the terminal signals of Noah and the others were completely lost after entering the Norfall Barrens area.

In such a situation, even if they needed the Disruptor's support, it was impossible for them to send any useful signals.

So...

Mortefi instantly thought of a possibility—that hero of Jinzhou, had he foreseen this long ago, thus requesting the Disruptor firing in advance?

Gulp.

Mortefi swallowed a mouthful of saliva, a chill running down his back.

If he hadn't followed Noah's arrangement and stubbornly refused to fire the Disruptor, would it have affected the outcome of this battle?

Norfall Barrens.

"Densely packed Tacet Discords. If this continues, it'll be endless. No time to keep entangling with them."

Jiyan gritted his teeth and swung his dragon spear, slaying all the Tacet Discords at his side. But after taking just two steps, he was immediately surrounded by several more Tacet Discords.

Taking advantage of this encirclement, several Tacet Discords from behind caught up, further expanding the encirclement.

The melee squads had already been left behind by them, and it was impossible for them to break another opening now.

A Frost Hunter Tacet Discord in the distance drew its bowstring, an arrow shooting straight toward Jiyan.

The fiercely incoming arrow was redirected by a cyclone driven by one hand, killing the Frost Hunter along its original path.

It was precisely Jianxin.

"Everyone, the Tacet Discords are coming fiercely. Someone must hold the rear. This humble Taoist will escort you this far. Please continue forward."

Jianxin stopped in her tracks, single-handedly blocking the endless surging Tacet Discords.

With Jianxin's rear guard, the pressure on the three—Jiyan, Noah, and Yangyang—suddenly dropped. They quickly dealt with the surrounding Tacet Discords.

"..."

Watching Jianxin's figure fully blocking the Tacet Discords, the three—Noah, Jiyan, and Yangyang—exchanged glances, tacitly understanding each other without saying more.

"This way; the number of Tacet Discords on this route will be slightly fewer!"

As Yangyang pointed out the direction, Jiyan charged ahead first, with Noah closely following behind.
