Chapter 38
Hearing Jepack's words, a large "╬" vein popped on Garp's forehead. He lowered his voice in clear annoyance and warned:
"You little punk—don't start yapping at me! Ever seen a fist the size of a sandbag? This old man's fist specializes in beating up the young and the old. If you keep throwing shade, next second it'll land right on your face!"
"Also… gotta say, your tone sounds a lot like one of the Admirals back at HQ."
Jepack burst out laughing, then continued:
"Don't be so petty, old man! I only said it once. Worst case, I just won't call you that anymore."
"So—what exactly are you planning to teach the two of them?"
Garp gave Jepack a sideways glance and replied calmly:
"What I'm going to teach is…"
"So little time—can they really learn anything?"
"Hahahaha! I only take responsibility for teaching—not for making sure they master it. The rest is up to you, isn't it!"
Garp finished the last of his sweet soda, dug into his nose, patted Jepack's shoulder casually, and strolled back into the cabin to rest.
"Damn it, stinky old man—did your hand just come out of your nose? That's disgusting!"
Jepack shouted after Garp's retreating back. The corridor was filled only with Garp's hearty laughter.
After Garp left, Jepack returned to the same spot as last night—another peaceful night passed…
The next day in the training room, Garp began teaching Nami and Guina their second lesson.
"I saw all your effort yesterday. Today, I'm going to teach you what Haki really is. Listen carefully.
"Haki is the latent power every human possesses—an innate ability. Intimidation, killing intent, fighting spirit… when you can control these invisible feelings, your willpower becomes a weapon. That powerful force is called Haki."
"There are three types: Observation Haki, Armament Haki, and Conqueror's Haki. Except for Conqueror's Haki and the highest level of Observation Haki, normal people can acquire this power through training and continue strengthening it. But beyond a certain point, true breakthroughs only happen in life-or-death situations. Conqueror's Haki and the highest level of Observation Haki are innate—you can't train to get them. The highest level of Observation Haki is even rarer than Conqueror's."
"That punk outside has Conqueror's Haki, but I haven't seen him show any special Observation Haki—so I don't know if he has it."
During a brief pause, Nami asked:
"Teacher, do you have Conqueror's Haki and special Observation Haki?"
Garp waved his hand confidently:
"Of course! Haha, yes—this old man has Conqueror's Haki. But the special Observation Haki is something you're born with. I wasn't that lucky."
Before Nami could ask more, Garp continued:
"Conqueror's Haki lets you intimidate or knock out enemies with sheer presence. If you can't control it, everyone around you gets caught up too. But when mastered to a high level, it becomes pure intimidation. It's the 'Haki' of the chosen ones—one in millions has the 'qualities of a king.' Unlike the other two, even if you can control Conqueror's Haki perfectly, you can't strengthen it through training. It only grows with the user's own personal growth. I don't know if you two will awaken it—that's something you'll have to discover for yourselves."
"Now listen carefully to Observation and Armament Haki."
"Observation Haki lets you strongly sense the presence and strength of others. Once developed, you can detect enemies outside your line of sight—their position, number, and even the actions they'll take in the next moment.
"Advanced Observation Haki users can train to glimpse a short period into the future. But this isn't absolute future sight—it's just the most probable one.
"The strongest Observation Haki can sense thoughts and emotions, transmit your own consciousness to others, influence their minds, create strong resonance, and even change their values and beliefs."
"Armament Haki increases personal defense like an invisible armor. It can also be turned into offense and counter Devil Fruit users—even touch the real body of a Logia type. In Wano Country, they call this 'Flowing Cherry Blossoms.' Armament Haki can only grab the real body of a user—it can't strip their powers like Seastone. Besides the body, it can also coat weapons to greatly increase striking power."
At that moment, Guina raised her sword, indicating she had a question. Garp nodded for her to speak.
"Teacher, according to what you said, Conqueror's Haki needs to be awakened on our own. So how should we train Observation and Armament Haki?"
Garp looked at the eager-to-learn Guina and nodded approvingly, then explained:
"To train Armament Haki, follow these steps:
Sense Armament Haki: Once your physical condition reaches a certain level, squeeze out your body's energy to sense its presence.
Beginner level: Cover a body part or weapon with Armament Haki to increase defense and attack power. Full-body coating: When you can cover your entire body, you've reached a higher level.
Continuous training: After sensing it, keep hammering your body to strengthen the effect. Through these methods, you can gradually improve your Armament Haki.
This is also why I made you wear weights on the first day—you need to build up your body's energy first before you can squeeze it out."
"As for Observation Haki training, it requires a lot of willpower. I have a simple method I can give you, but I can't personally guide you through it."
"Ah! Teacher, why can't you personally teach us?" Nami and Guina asked in surprise.
Garp glanced at their slim arms and legs and laughed:
"Hahahahaha~ If this old man personally trained you two, your little bodies probably wouldn't hold up! Jepack that punk might be able to handle it, but he's already awakened it. Too bad!"
Garp patted his massive fist with a regretful look.
Guina: "Teacher Garp, then what method should we use to train?"
