Chapter 90 - Chapter 89

"That is what I define as a full potential release," Naruto said, his tone deceptively casual as his muscular structure settled back into its normal, lean frame.

He stood at the center of the clearing, sweeping his calm blue eyes across the stunned faces of the assembled ninja. "Look—the Eight Inner Gates aren't a parlor trick to be played around with. For a guy like me, they serve as a absolute last-resort multiplier to stack on top of my base foundation. But strictly speaking, the Gates are simply a physical mechanism designed to forcibly unlock the body's latent output. That's all there is to it."

Naruto let out a broad, exaggerated stretch, his joints popping cleanly in the warm afternoon air. "Anyway, I'm completely wiped out. Time for a power nap."

Without another word, the blond youth strolled back to the massive woven picnic mat, collapsed onto his back, and within seconds, a soft, rhythmic snore began to drift from his nose.

Silence settled over Training Ground 7—heavy, suffocating, and absolute.

On the edge of the mat, Kakashi Hatake slowly lowered his orange novel. His visible eye, usually drooping with lazy indifference, was locked on the sleeping teen in dead seriousness.

"Did you have any idea about this, Guy?" Kakashi asked softly, his voice lacking its usual relaxed air.

Beside him, Might Guy stood entirely motionless. The boisterous, theatrical master of Taijutsu had gone dead quiet, his dark eyes wide as he stared at Naruto.

"No," Guy whispered, shaking his head slowly. "In all my years of studying and mastering the Eight Gates... the mechanical application Naruto just described, and the way he forged a new structural technique around it... it is an analytical perspective I have never once considered."

"What?" Asuma Sarutobi dropped his lit cigarette onto the grass, completely ignoring the smoldering ember as he stared at Guy in utter disbelief. "Are you telling me that Naruto figured out a fundamental secret behind the Eight Gates that you missed? You've spent your entire life operating those gates!"

"It isn't a matter of oversight, Asuma," Guy replied, his voice deep and measured. "I never attempted such a method because Naruto's foundational philosophy regarding the Gates is fundamentally different from mine. The gap between how I utilize the Eight Gates and how Naruto-kun approaches them is as wide as heaven and earth."

Every chunin and jonin present turned toward Guy, their expressions shifting to dead seriousness as they hung on the Taijutsu master's words.

"The way Naruto spoke about the biological triggers..." Guy continued, gesturing toward his own chest, "he possesses an understanding of the Eight Gates on an elemental, structural level. What he said regarding the trigger mechanisms—that the physiological catalyst for unlocking a Gate varies from individual to individual despite the mechanical process remaining identical—is absolute truth. But his execution sets him apart."

Guy took a deep breath, his sharp eyes reflecting profound contemplation. "When I open the Gates, I do so to elevate my physical strength to match an enemy I cannot otherwise defeat. It is the same for Lee, and the same for Kakashi. For us, the Eight Inner Gates are essential crutches—the absolute peak of our combat capability."

Guy looked down at the sleeping Uzumaki. "For Naruto-kun, the Eight Gates are merely another utility spell in a massive arsenal. He does not rely on them out of necessity. He already possesses the refined authority of Sage Mode, his massive Jinchūriki reserves, and the absurd biological durability of his Uzumaki bloodline. He broke the traditional doctrine that the Eight Gates belong exclusively to dedicated Taijutsu specialists."

Guy paused, letting the weight of his next words settle over the clearing. "Now that he has mastered Sage Mode, if he were to stack the physical output of the Eight Gates directly on top of Natural Energy... his raw physical force would reach a realm beyond comprehension."

The entire clearing remained frozen in absolute silence.

Across the mat, the members of Team Ten and Team Guy—Neji, Tenten, Lee, and Shikamaru—sat with heavy, complex expressions. Out of all the rookies present, they possessed the deepest understanding of the Eight Gates' lethality. To hear that a technique so notoriously dangerous—a double-edged sword capable of crippling or killing its user—was being treated as a casual force-multiplier by someone their own age left a profound knot in their chests.

A short distance away, Sai calmly unrolled a fresh scroll, dipped his brush into dark ink, and began making swift, fluid strokes across the paper. He turned his stool slightly toward a nearby mossy log, sketching the landscape with serene detachment.

Yamato stepped closer, glancing over Sai's shoulder. "Sai... what are you doing at a time like this?"

"I am simply completing my landscape study, Captain Yamato," Sai replied smoothly, his brush never breaking rhythm.

Kiba Inuzuka gritted his teeth, crossing his arms aggressively. "Hey, pale face! Aren't you even a little shocked?! How are you sitting there painting while Naruto casually rewrites the most dangerous forbidden technique in the village?!"

Sai paused, tilting his head as he looked at Kiba with calm, unblinking eyes.

"Naruto-kun is fundamentally different from the rest of us, Kiba-kun," Sai stated neutrally. "That is a reality I have come to recognize over the past few months of operating on the same squad. His approach to problems exists entirely outside standard parameters."

Sai dipped his brush back into the inkpot. "Where we rely on rigid textbook doctrine and predictable tactical formulas, Naruto-kun thinks outside the box. I have learned that questioning his tactical judgment is usually an exercise in futility. His instincts are almost universally correct—and today, he simply proved it by demystifying one of the most lethal techniques in the shinobi world."

A faint, subtle smile touched Sai's lips. "In fact, I am considering asking him for pointers regarding my Ink Manipulation Jutsu later. Perhaps his unconventional perspective could help me refine my own fluidity."

Kakashi let out a long, quiet sigh, a soft chuckle escaping his mask. "You hit the nail right on the head, Sai. Naruto's mind has always operated on a different frequency. No matter how meticulously an enemy tries to outmaneuver him, once Naruto fixes his focus on a problem, he inevitably rewrites the rules."

Kakashi looked up at the blue sky, his single visible eye softening with a mixture of pride and quiet melancholy. "There was a reason he earned the title of the village's number-one hyperactive ninja back in the academy."

The masked Jonin leaned back against the bark of the tree, resting his hands in his lap. "Still... I am simply grateful that my student has grown into someone so remarkable. Even if... after the failures of my past, I no longer truly deserve the title of his sensei."

Yamato frowned slightly, turning toward his senior officer. "You shouldn't beat yourself up like that, Kakashi-senpai. You acted in good faith based on the information you had at the time."

The surrounding Jonin listened closely. While they were aware that Naruto's personal respect for Kakashi had frayed prior to the training trip, few understood the exact root of the rift.

"What I did was fundamentally indefensible, Yamato," Kakashi murmured, his voice dropping into a somber register. "I was so consumed with pulling Sasuke back from the dark path that I completely neglected Naruto. When he came to me eager to learn—begging for proper instruction rather than basic copy-cat drills—I brushed him off. I could have easily assigned a Shadow Clone to guide his elemental foundations, but I chose not to."

Kakashi stared at his own gloved hands. "They say karma always comes full circle. I suppose this quiet distance between us is simply my karma."

Kurenai Yūhi placed a comforting hand on Kakashi's shoulder, offering a gentle, reassuring smile. "You were trying to save a traumatized child from destroying himself, Kakashi. The world we live in is unpredictable and harsh. Don't carry the entire world's weight on your shoulders. Naruto is still on speaking terms with you—perhaps in time, you can rebuild that bond."

Kakashi shook his head slowly. "No, Kurenai... I lost his trust long before he left on his three-year journey with Jiraiya-sama. In truth, I lost it right before the final rounds of the Chunin Exams."

A quiet murmur rippled through the gathered chunin. They all remembered that period clearly: Kakashi had taken Sasuke into the mountains for private, high-intensity Chidori training, while Naruto had been handed off to Ebisu. While Ebisu was an exceptional special jonin for baseline academy fundamentals, he was utterly unsuited to prepare a genin for life-or-death combat in a Chunin Exam arena.

"It was a miracle he ran into Jiraiya-sama and learned the Summoning Technique," Kakashi continued quietly. "And do you know what the most tragic part of that entire situation was, Kurenai?"

"What do you mean?" Kurenai asked gently.

"After the exams concluded, Jiraiya-sensei pulled me aside and revealed what had actually been wrong with Naruto during those weeks," Kakashi said, his eye darkening. "During the second phase in the Forest of Death, Sasuke wasn't the only one targeted by Orochimaru. Orochimaru subjected Naruto to the Five Elements Seal."

The air instantly turned cold.

The senior Jonin—Asuma, Kurenai, and Yamato—gasping softly as their eyes widened in genuine horror.

"A Five Elements Seal?!" Shino Aburame asked, leaning forward with rare urgency. "Kurenai-sensei... what is the nature of that technique?"

Ino looked at Kakashi with concern. "Is it that dangerous?"

"It is a sinister, high-tier sealing formula," Kurenai explained, her voice tight. "The caster forcibly applies an odd-numbered elemental block directly over an existing seal core. It completely disrupts the victim's natural chakra circulation, effectively locking away their ability to mold or control their own energy."

Shikamaru, who had been chewing on a piece of dry grass, froze mid-chew. His dark eyes snapped to Kakashi. "Are you saying... Naruto fought through the Forest of Death and defeated Kiba in the preliminary matches while suffering under a complete chakra lock?"

"That is correct, Shikamaru," Kakashi confirmed somberly.

A heavy, suffocating weight fell over the rookies.

Among them, Kiba Inuzuka looked as though he had been struck by lightning. His face drained of color before flushing into a deep, burning shade of crimson. Akamaru whined softly beside him, tucking his tail between his legs.

Kiba remembered every arrogant word he had declared back then—how he had mocked Naruto as an easy dead-last, how he had bragged to the entire arena that his victory was guaranteed.

Yet Naruto had beaten both Kiba and Akamaru simultaneously while operating under a severe, high-tier sealing handicap that suppressed his very chakra network.

Kiba instinctively looked across the lake toward the distant tree, staring at the deep, terrifying fist mark embedded into the solid wood. If a handicapped twelve-year-old Naruto had possessed that much raw grit... a strike from his current self would vaporize a man instantly.

Suddenly, a loud, ringing burst of laughter broke the tense silence.

"PFFT—HAHAHAHA!"

Ino was doubled over, clutching her stomach as tears of pure amusement welled in her eyes. "Oh my god! That means Naruto completely embarrassed you and Akamaru in the preliminary rounds while he was practically running on zero chakra!"

Kiba's face burned brighter than a ripe tomato. "I-Ino! Shut up!"

"And to think you spent the last three years boasting that you only lost because you were 'tired'!" Ino wheezed, pointing a finger at him. "That is the absolute funniest thing I've ever heard in my life!"

Akamaru buried his snout under his paws with a pitiful whimper, completely surrendering to the embarrassment, while Kiba buried his face in his hands, desperately wishing the earth beneath Training Ground 7 would open up and swallow him whole.
