As soon as the items hit the floor, Garp rushed over, unable to hold himself back.
In no time, he had all three things scooped up in his hands.
The problem was, without a system, he had absolutely no way of seeing what their attributes were.
That was probably one of the system's little security features, to stop people from looting jars and getting all the benefits for free.
With no other choice, Garp scratched his head awkwardly and handed everything back to Amon, letting him do the identification.
He also vaguely figured that this must be some kind of safeguard Amon set up to stop people from stealing the goods.
"Amon, hurry up and tell me what kind of equipment I got."
Since he needed Amon's help, Garp's form of address shifted from "brat" to just "Amon."
It did not sound much more polite, but Amon was already used to Garp's way of talking. And as a merchant, he was obligated to explain things for his customers.
But the moment he scanned the three items with the system, he almost burst out laughing.
Especially when he saw the details for the third item, he nearly collapsed on the spot.
The three items were:
A battered short katana.
An old, worn leather coat.
And the blue book that nearly killed Amon with laughter... a pet-raising manual titled Postpartum Care for Sows.
Being able to pull these three "treasures" from a jar truly spoke volumes about Garp's luck.
"Amon, how is it? my luck must be off the charts, right?"
Seeing the smile plastered on Amon's face, Garp thought he had drawn something amazing.
The three items looked ancient and mysterious at first glance, like relics left behind from another era.
Luffy and the others stared at Amon with curiosity, wanting to know what Garp had actually gotten.
"Ahem. I must say, Mr. Garp, your luck really is something. These three items are all top tier."
Amon spoke while trying very hard not to burst into laughter.
He was seriously looking forward to seeing Garp's expression after he finished explaining.
"Hahaha, I knew my luck would not lose to my grandsons'."
Garp still had no idea he was being trolled and laughed proudly to himself.
"That is right, Mr. Garp, your luck really is special.
"These three items are: first, a broken little katana.
"As for its function... it is probably no good for chopping people, but you could definitely use it to cut grass."
"Second, an old leather coat. If you wear it, it should be able to reduce the pain you feel when someone hits you. A little bit."
"Now for the third one, this is the truly impressive piece.
"It is a professional pig farmer's manual titled Postpartum Care for Sows.
"If you decide to raise pigs after retiring, this book will be worth more than gold. Hahahaha..."
By the end, Amon could not hold back anymore and just laughed out loud.
Garp's luck was so bad it had gone all the way around to legendary.
He could not even blame the jars. Pulling three totally useless things in one go really went beyond Amon's expectations.
"Grandpa is going to raise pigs? Yay, that means we will have meat every day. That is awesome!"
Luffy's brain really worked in a way no one else could follow.
Sure enough, seeing Luffy daring to laugh when his pulls were this awful, Garp slammed a Fist of Love straight onto his head.
"Waaah, why are you hitting me again, Grandpa!"
After being hammered over and over, Luffy finally snapped, tears in his eyes as he jumped up and yelled in protest.
"Because my hands were itchy."
Garp replied with a perfectly serious face.
Then he showed a very satisfied smile.
If you did not have grandchildren to hit, what was the point of having grandchildren at all?
You could tell Garp's mentality was actually very steady.
Even though he had opened three pieces of pure trash and been laughed at by Amon, he was not truly angry.
He had ten jars in total, and this was only the first one.
The good stuff was still to come.
Even if it all turned out to be garbage, he would at least wait until the last jar disappointed him before he blew up.
"You there, this katana is yours. It may look worn, but I checked earlier. The blade material is still decent. It should be able to handle haki."
Garp picked up the old katana and tossed it to one of the officers who had come down from the warship, a Lieutenant who used a sword.
"Yes sir, thank you for the reward, Vice Admiral!"
The man's face lit up when he caught the katana.
What Garp looked down on was still a great weapon in his eyes.
More importantly, it came as a personal gift from the Hero of the Marines.
That alone was enough for him to brag about it for a long time.
"You with the axe, the leather coat is yours."
After giving away the katana, Garp tossed the worn leather coat at Morgan.
"Yes. Thank you for the reward, Vice Admiral."
Morgan accepted the coat with a stiff expression, not nearly as excited as the swordsman.
"And this blue book is for you."
With two of the three items handed out, Garp turned his gaze to Silver Snake, the commanding captain of the branch forces.
He threw Postpartum Care for Sows into his arms.
"Yes sir, thank you for the reward, Vice Admiral!"
Silver Snake had been watching Garp reward the other two and secretly worrying that he had been forgotten.
He never imagined that Garp had not forgotten him at all, and that among the three, he would be given what looked like the most valuable item, a carefully bound book.
He was delighted... right up until he lowered his head and read the title.
" A pet raising manual??"
His face instantly froze.
"Hahahaha, this is a masterpiece of pet farming techniques. Make sure you study it properly. In the future, the Marines' pork supply will depend on you.
Garp saw the black lines on Silver Snake's face and was completely satisfied with his own mischief.
He had to admit, scamming people like this felt really good.
"Yes sir. Once I return, I will definitely study it carefully."
Since Garp said so, Silver Snake did not dare disobey.
In fact, he started seriously considering the possibility that this might be a test from Garp himself.
What neither Garp nor Amon could have guessed was that Silver Snake really did go back and carefully research that book.
Years later, after retiring from the Marines, he opened a pig farm, used everything he learned from that manual, and eventually became a wealthy businessman, dominating the local pork market.
